About the Writer o{ this Book

The name of the one who wrote this book is John Bunyan

from England. He was a famous preacher. He ~as put in

jail for pr.eaching the Word of God. But .even though he

was imprisoned, he continued to study God's Word' , which

was a -great comfort to him. Even though he wa~ very

di~tressed about his separation from his family, he was / , r I

greatly helped by his firm faith in God. . .

~hile he was in j~iJ:, he thou9ht about how he could

.. ~ ~. . .

nevertheless help his fellow believers r beca.use they were

very qear to him, as if they were his own ct:tildren.

Because of his eager desire to strengthen their faith

in the Lord Jesus, he decided to write to them. But just

as he began to write, he fell asleep and had a dream. In

qis dream he saw a man _named Christian, who was walking

toward heav~n. -So you can read what he dreamed in this book he w~ote, Pilgrim's Progress. /

I will tell what I dreamed about the life of a believer in God, because God wants to make us understand that the situation of a Christian is like walking 6n a narrow trail to never-ending bliss. But during his. walk he experiences all kinds of things. My dream was like this:

His nu.nd had become very distr:essed, . because, through reading a book, his mind had been o~ned, and now he . understoOd his situat1on. He cried because of a very heavy bUrden that he w~s carrying. He went home, but still he was troubled by his thoughts, and he said to his wife and children, "My dear ones, I can no longer suppress this awful problem .which can't be retOOved from my mind. For . I read in this book that this city where we live will ~ consumed by fire which will cane. fran heaven. Surely we' 11 all perish if we don' t look for some way to be saved. "

One day there was a person named Preacher who approached Lost. He .saw hlin crying so he inquired, "Friend, why are you crying?" Lost answered, "It's because of the heavy burden I'm carrying, for it says in this book that I cannot avoid death and will surely face judgment. I am afraid to die and face judgment, because this heavy burden I'm carrying will be the reason I' 11 be p.Inished in hell."

But his 'wife and children did everything they could to get him to throw away the book he was reading, but . he told them, "Even if you don 't want to believe it, I believe it anyway, because that is what it says to do in order to be saved." And from then on his name was ~ longer Lost, for it had been changed to a new one. It had becane Christian. Therefore, he went ahead with his departure.

He defeated all those who were opposed to him, and it could also be read there that this Son of God forgives the

sins of anyone who repents and approaches him. It could also be .read 'that all that the prophets wrote about the King was fulfilled.
