"Закхею, притьмом злізай, бо я сьогодні маю

бути в твоїм домі." Закхей заскочений, здивований, бо він такого

зовсім не сподівався, він бажав лише побачити Ісуса,

а тут Він йде загостити до його дому. З радістю

Закхей промовляє: "Ось половину мого майна,

Господи, даю вбогим, а як кого скривдив, поверну

вчетверо." А Христос відповів: "Сьогодні, на цей дім зійшло

спасіння." Які величні слова Спасителя!

Запитаймо, що було причиною що Закхей забажав

побачити Ісуса? Не звичайна цікавість зробила те, але

Божа ласка. Та Божа ласка зійшла на нього і привела

його до Христа.Божа ласка перемінила його життя.

Подія навернення Закхея є не лише історичним

фактом, а вона дає нам духовне повчання. Ми всі є

грішниками в більшій, або меншій мірі. Христос

наближається до кожного із нас зі своєю ласкою. Те, що

Він вчинив Закхеєві, те Він хоче зробити й для нас.

Якщо ми дозволемо Божій ласці увійти в наше нутро,

тоді станеться з нами те, що сталося з Закхеєм.

"Син бо Чоловічий прийшов шукати і спасти те,

що загинуло." Закхей був багатим. Він бажав бачити

Ісуса, але через малий зріст "виліз на дерево, щоб

подивитися на нього, бо Ісус мав проходити тудою."

Господь, побачивши його щире бажання, завітав до

Закхеєвого дому. Ісус прийшов до митаря-грішника,

щоб показати нам свою любов до всіх людей. Він хоче

спасти світ, тому терпеливо чекає на навернення всього

люду.

Сам Бог хоче завітати до нас, тож приймімо Його

радо до своєї оселі. Не відвертаймо свого обличчя від

святого, щоб почути голос Господній: "Сьогодні на

цей дім зійшло спасіння."

Господи, дякую Тобі за Твою милість, що завітав до

моєї убогої оселі. Під Твою опіку віддаю своє життя,

щоб з Тобою перебувати завжди. Нехай ця щира

молитва буде Тобі приємною, щоб моє серце було

завши відчиненим для Всемогутньго Бога.

The meaning and use of light in our divine worship On the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord in the Temple

(Feb 2), candles are blessed and distributed to the faithful. In

all religions of the world light symbolizes the deity, and

lighted candles and lamps symbolize the Divine Presence.

God is the ‘Light’ (John. 1; 5) and He dwells in the

‘inaccessible light.’ (1 Tim 6; 16) In the Old Testament, God

Himself ordered the Israelites to burn lamps as a sign of His

presence among His people. (Lev. 24; 14) God appeared to

Moses in the burning bush and went before the people of Israel

as a pillar of light. In Exodus 25; 31-40, God commanded

that a 7-branch candlestick-menorah be set in the Temple.

Jesus Christ is the ‘light of the world’, ‘the true light that

enlightens every man who comes into this world’. His

person and teaching enlighten us and deliver us from spiritual

darkness and moral death.

Burning candles and lamps create a solemn, prayerful

atmosphere in our churches. We burn candles before icons

reminding us of the light of the exemplary lives of the

saints and to model our lives in imitation of them. The

burning candles remind us that our prayers should come from

a heart burning with the love of God, and are directed to

heaven where He abides in the ‘inaccessible light.’ The

beeswax reminds us that our prayer must come from a pure

heart. The olive oil used in burning lamps symbolizes the

sacrificial love of Christ. The burning votive candle remains lit

in church symbolizing that our prayers continue after we leave

the church.

The newly baptized is given a lit candle symbolizing the

new spiritual life we receive through Baptism and a life of

faith and good deeds. The burning candles flanking the

Gospel during the reading reminds us that the teaching of

Christ should enlighten us and guide us on our way to

salvation (John 8; 12). At funerals and processions the

celebrants and faithful carry lit candles. Candles are lit when

the Last Rites are administered and placed in the hand of the dying. For the pagans death was regarded as the going out of

one’s sun. For us Christians the natural sun no longer shines

for us, a greater light, Christ the ‘light of the world’, the

eternal light which knows no night illumines our lives. At

Vespers the church is darkened and then illumined for the

hymn ‘O Gladsome Light’. (cont. on pg. 4)

Pope at Mass:

the Beatitudes are the true way of life for the Christian Celebrating his morning Mass, January 21, Pope Francis said that some people believe themselves to be good Catholics but don’t even act like good Christians as indicated by the Beatitudes. The Christian style is that of the Beatitudes that St. Mark in the day’s Gospel describes as "new wine in new bottles". By Robin Gomes The Gospel, the Word of the Lord, is the "new wine" that has been gifted us, but to be good Christians we need a "new behaviour", a "new style" that is truly the "Christian style", and this style is indicated by the Beatitudes. This is the meaning of the " key word " that concludes today’s reading from the Gospel of Mark: "New wine in new wineskins". Pope Francis made this the theme of his homily at Mass, Monday morning, at the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta. Accusing others According to the Pope, we can learn about the Christian style by first knowing our attitudes that don’t belong to the Christian style. In this regard, he points to 3 of them: the "accusatory style", the "worldly style" and the "selfish style": The Pope says that the accusatory style belongs to those who always try and live by accusing others, disqualifying others, acting as absent promoters of justice. But they don't realize that it's the style of the devil: in the Bible, the devil is called the "great accuser", who is always accusing others. This was the same in the time of Jesus who in a few cases reproached the accusers: "Instead of looking at the speck in the eyes of others, look at the beam in yours"; or again: "Those who have not sinned can throw the first stone". Living by accusing others and looking for defects, the Pope says, is not "Christian", not new wineskin. Worldliness Speaking about worldliness, Pope Francis calls it an attitude of Catholics who can "recite the Creed", but live on "vanity, pride and attachment to money", believing themselves to be self-sufficient. The Pope says that the Lord has offered you the new wine but you did not change the wineskin, you did not change yourself. This worldliness is what ruins so many who are good but they enter into this spirit of vanity, of pride, of being seen... Humility that is part of the Christian style, like that of Our Lady and St. Joseph, is lacking, the Pope says.

Selfishness, indifference Commenting on the third un-Christian style, the Pope says it is the selfish spirit, the spirit of indifference that is common in our communities. One believes oneself to be a good Catholic but doesn’t worry about the problems of others – wars, illnesses and the suffering of our neighbors. This, the Pope says, is the hypocrisy that Jesus reproached the doctors of the law for. What then is the Christian style? According to the Pope, the Christian style is that of the Beatitudes: meekness, humility, patience in suffering, love for justice, ability to endure persecution, not judging others... If a Catholic wants to learn the Christian style, so as not to fall into this accusatory style, the worldly style and the selfish style, he/ she must read the Beatitudes. They are the wineskins, the path we must take. To be a good Christian one must have the ability not only to recite the Creed with the heart but also the Our Father with the heart.

Щоб бути добрими християнами, потрібна «нова

поведінка», новий «стиль життя», який можна назвати «християнським стилем». Яким є цей стиль,

розповідають Блаженства. На цьому наголосив Папа

Франциск, проповідуючи під час Святої Меси в каплиці «Дому святої Марти» у понеділок, 21 січня 2019 р.,

коментуючи один із знакових висловів Ісуса, записаних євангелистами: «Молоде вино вливають у нові

бурдюки». Він зазначив, що отим «молодим вином» є

Господнє слово, дароване нам у Євангелії. Нехристиянський і християнський стиль життя

Бурдюками, в які вливається це вино, є ми, християни. За словами проповідника, аби зрозуміти, яким є

християнський стиль життя, варто розпочати з аналізу

того, що в нашій поведінці не є християнським. Він виокремив три ознаки: «стиль обвинувача», «світський

стиль», «егоїстичний стиль». Перший – це спосіб поведінки тих віруючих, які

постійно обвинувачують інших, мовляв вони не такі, їхня

поведінка неправильна, це не по-католицьки, тощо. «Вони навіть не зауважують, що це стиль диявола, якого в Біблії

названо “Великим обвинувачем”, який постійно обвинувачує інших», – сказав Папа, вказуючи на те, що

такий стиль був притаманний і в часах Ісуса, Який

неодноразово викривав поведінку тих, «які не бачать

колоди у власному оці». Отож, «постійно шукати вади»

інших не є «новими бурдюками».

Це стосується і тих, які ведуть «світський» стиль життя, тобто, таких християн, що вустами промовляють «Вірую»,

але живуть марнославством, гордістю та прив’язаністю до грошей. «Бракує покори, – зазначив Святіший Отець, –

а покора є частиною християнського стилю життя. Ми

повинні вчитися її від Ісуса, Богородиці та святого Йосифа».

Врешті, у наших спільнотах можемо спостерегти ще один спосіб поведінки, що не є християнським. Мова йде

про «егоїстичний стиль» та «дух байдужості». Можемо

вважати себе добрими християнами, але не перейматися проблемами інших, стражданнями ближнього…

Блаженства – справжній християнський стиль. Отож, яким є стиль справжнього християнина?

«Християнським стилем є стиль Блаженств, – відповідає

Папа, – лагідність, смирення, терпеливість у стражданні, любов до справедливості, здатність переносити

переслідування, не судити інших… Таким є стиль християнина. Якщо хочеш знати, яким є християнський стиль, аби не впасти в цей стиль обвинувачення, світський

та егоїстичний стиль, читай Блаженства. В них – наш стиль, Блаженства – це нові бурдюки», – наголосив

проповідник, додаючи, що справжній християнин не лише

щиро проказує «Вірую», але також від щирого серця промовляє «Отче наш».
