A Message from Father David
Divine Mercy Sunday will be celebrated in a special way by the Brainerd Deanery here at St. James starting with confessions (multiple priests, individual confessions), Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Communal praying of the Divine Mercy Chaplet, Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Dedication and Blessing of Stations Field and ending with a K of C Spaghetti Dinner. The event begins at 1:30pm with Reconciliation, Adoration at 2pm, Chaplet at 3pm, Holy Sacrifice at 3:15pm, Dedication and Blessing after Mass and feed after the Dedication and Blessing.
The Mercy that Christ has shared with the world is an unburdening of human guilt and shame in a universal way. We have all felt the balm of His mercy, whether we perceive it or not. What He has done for us overshadows and encompasses all history and time. His love is great, ours is small. His cross was huge, while we have only slivers pressed into our hands. Mighty and wonderful are His works, we create chaos and are constantly working to find peace.
We are called to participate in His way, the truth and His life. We may not
be able to accomplish great things but in His name and by His grace we can
do small works of mercy. Remember these:
CORPORAL
To feed the hungry;
To give drink to the thirsty;
To clothe the naked;
To shelter the homeless;
To visit the sick;
To ransom the captive;
To bury the dead.
SPIRITUAL
To instruct the ignorant;
To counsel the doubtful;
To admonish sinners;
To bear wrongs patiently;
To forgive offences willingly;
To comfort the afflicted;
To pray for the living and the dead
These seem large as well, but I think with proper meditation and careful
thought, little ways can be discovered to do for each of these challenges of
mercy. Next week I will propose one for each. For example To Comfort
the Afflicted, I think we all can understand the anxiety of a sink full of
dishes. Imagine the merciful act of washing your dish instead of just adding
to someone else’s work or cleaning the sink full of dishes yourself. How
comforting that would be! More to come…
God bless and have a good week everyone! Fr. David

The Unborn Child & Spiritual Adoption
Back in January, our
local Knights of
Columbus Council, asked our
parishioners to adopt and pray for an
Unborn Child (or Children) that they may
be spared from abortion. We thank you
for pledging to pray for them. The
following is the Unborn Child’s growth
information from six (6) weeks to thirteen
(13) weeks: the Baby’s brain now
coordinates movements. All external and
internal organs are developing and
functioning; brain waves are recorded;
the skeleton changes from cartilage to
bone; the Baby’s central nervous system
is functioning; and the Baby has
permanent individual fingerprints. This
Baby now has a sense of touch (comfort/
pain); he/she can smile, suck his/her
thumb and make a fist. Thank you and
please continue to pray for these Unborn
Children so that they are allowed to live
and grow to full term. Our Knights will
keep you posted as to the growth
progress of these Unborn Children.
Additional prayer/adoption
cards are available on the
prayer table. Cuyuna
