Juventus moves 9 points clear with 2-1 win at AC Milan

LOS ANGELES - A passionate kiss, Leonardo DiCaprio’s “Rev-enant” bear encounter and a foul-mouthed hosting duo dominated Saturday’s profanity-laden MTV Movie Awards, where “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” came away the top winner.

“The Force Awakens,” the third-highest grossing film of all time, led with 11 nominations and beat out blockbusters such as “Juras-sic World” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” for movie of the year. Lead star Daisy Ridley won best breakthrough performance.

“It’s especially amazing to be part of a film that represents all genders - two genders - and races and ages in such a positive and as-pirational way,” Ridley said.

It’s all about the unpredictable and irreverent moments at Viacom

Inc’s fan-voted Movie Awards, which taped Saturday in Los An-geles and will air Sunday on the MTV network.

Hosts Kevin Hart and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson set the tone for the evening as they opened with curse words and insults, at one point dressing up as Batman and Super-man to throw barbs at the A-list superhero actors in attendance.

They also rapped about Oscar-winner DiCaprio having sexual intercourse with a bear in “The Revenant”.

“Pitch Perfect 2” stars Rebel Wilson and Adam Devine won best kiss and recreated their messy film smooch, passionately grabbing each other on stage.

Charlize Theron won best female performance for playing Imperator Furiosa in “Mad Max: Fury Road”.

She said the film was “in part a story of the power of women and the power to create our own destinies,” dedicat-ing her win to “all the Furoisas”.

Halle Berry introduced actor-singer Will Smith as a “champion for diversity” when awarding him the MTV Generation Award. Smith joked the accolade was “the old ass dude award”.

“I want to display love, play roles that have dignity and I just want to help in this world,” the “Concus-sion” star said.

Other winners included hip hop biopic “Straight Outta Compton” for best true story, Ryan Reynolds for best comedic performance and best fight for “Deadpool,” Amy Poehler for best virtual performance in “Inside Out” and Chris Pratt for best action performance for “Juras-sic World”. (rtr)

Walker was a passenger in a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT driven by Roger Rodas when the car, traveling at speeds of 80 to 93 miles per hour (129 to 150 kilometers per hour), careened into trees and a utility pole in Santa Clarita, northwest of Los Angeles.

Meadow Walker’s attorney, Jeff Milam, said in a state-ment that the settlement would go into a trust for the teen.

The settlement, reached in November 2014, went un-noticed for nearly a year and half because it was filed under “Meadow W.”, according to celebrity news website TMZ, which first reported the story.

According to Milam’s statement, Rodas was only par-tially responsible for the crash, and the settlement covers a “fraction of what her father would have earned as an international movie star had his life not been tragically cut short.”

Attorneys for Rodas’ estate could not immediately be reached for comment.

Walker’s death at age 40 led to a lull in production of “Furious 7,” the latest movie in the mega-hit action series about illegal street racing that propelled his career.

The 2015 film grossed more than $1.5 billion worldwide,

making it among the highest-earning films of all time.Milam said the actor’s daughter was continuing her

lawsuit against Porsche AG and that she “intends to hold the company responsible for producing a vehicle that was defective and caused Paul Walker’s death.”

Meadow Walker, the actor’s only child and sole heir, filed the complaint against the German automaker last September, accusing it of skimping on safety features that could have prevented the crash or at least kept him alive.

Porsche has maintained that the actor was responsible for his own death. After a four-month investigation, Los Angeles officials said the crash was caused by excessive speed, not mechanical failure.

Milam said Paul Walker survived the impact of the crash, but “burned to death because of Porsche’s defective design.”

A federal judge presiding over a similar lawsuit filed by Rodas’ estate against Porsche in Los Angeles ruled in favor of the car company on Mon-day, saying: “Plaintiff has provided no competent evidence that Rodas’ death occurred as a result of any wrongdoing on the part of De-fendant.” (rtr)

Paul Walker’s daughter gets $10.1 mln settlement in actor’s death

CALIFORNIA - The 17-year-old daughter of late actor Paul Walker has reached a $10.1 million settlement with the estate of the man driving the car that crashed and killed them both in 2013, her attorney said on Friday.

Thousands of devotees had packed into the Puttingal Devi temple in the coastal district of Kollam. The fireworks display began at midnight and went on for hours. The fire started when one of the crackers fell onto a shed where the fireworks were stored, said residents near the temple site, about 70 km from the state capital Thiruvananthapuram.

According to him, the helpless-ness of fishermen has been go-ing on for 18 months. Not a few fishermen must switch profession into farm laborer or artisan. They even sell their property for a living. Currently, there are approximately 2,000 fishermen catching lobsters. Among them, 846 fishermen are in Tabanan. In the meantime, the overall fishermen amount to 11,600 people across Bali.

“About 83 percent have lost income because of the ministerial regulation. We demand our right to be returned as a citizen to state the sovereignty of fishermen under the protection of Mr. Jokowi,” he said.

On the other hand, the Ministe-rial Regulation No.56, 57/KP/2014 prohibits the operation of ship whose manufacturing is carried out overseas (ex-foreign ship). Actually, at Benoa Harbor alone there are currently 100 ex-foreign ships. When each ship has an aver-age of ten ship crews, then there are a thousand crews threatened to be laid off.

“Data in the ministry stated if there are about 1,132 ships manu-factured overseas, while based on evaluations in Bali there are about 100 ships based at Benoa. Then, 83 ships of them are declared specifi-cally to be excluded from black list and they can be eliminated and reg-istered back to be delisted from the

ships of Indonesia,” said the Head of the Bali Maritime and Fisheries Agency, I Made Gunaja.

Gunaja added the request of the owners whose ships excluded in the black list in order to remove their ship from the Indonesian ship list is in accordance with the letter of Sec-retary General No.195/59/II/206 dated February 11, 2016. However, until now there is no regulation explaining what to do with the ex-foreign ships after being delisted from the ship of Indonesian.

“So far, there is no regulation about what to do with the ships. Will they be sold abroad? If they are to be sold, will there be one purchasing them? This becomes the objections of the crews,” he explained. Not to mention, added Gunaja, the ex-foreign ships also pay taxes all this time. Every year, the ship owners having Permit of Fishing pay taxes based on their gross tonnage in Ja-karta, while the ships under 30 gross tons pay levies in Bali.

“The ships are their legitimate capital because they have been purchased and become the belong-ing of Indonesian citizens. So, they consider suffering big losses,” he explained.

Related to the ban on catch-ing lobsters less than 200 grams, Gunaja recognized that it has significant impacts on the lobsters production and export of Bali. Lob-sters of Bali are exported to Japan and China.

In 2015, the lobster produc-tion slumped 17.3 percent to 135 tons compared to 2014 reaching

163.3 tons. Production in 2015 is equivalent to IDR 39.8 billion, down 8.3 percent more compared to 2014 amounting to IDR 43.4 billion more.

In the meantime, the lobster export decreased from 105.84 tons in 2014 to 91.59 tons in 2015. The export value in 2014 amounted to USD 2.49 million, while in 2015

slumped 3.1 percent to USD 2.41 million more.

“If there are lobsters caught of less than 200 grams, they cannot be marketed. Secondly, the lobsters laying eggs cannot be captured and must be released back,” he said.

Gunaja admitted that he had re-quested the Directorate General of Fishing, Ministry of Maritime and

Fisheries to review the ministerial regulation No.01/KP/2015 because 87 percent of potential lobster in Bali has the weight of 100-200 grams. Besides, some of the lob-sters weighing 100 grams have even been laying eggs. Unfortunately, the demand of the agency has not been responded by the minister so far. (kmb32)

The Head of the Tabanan Revenue Service (Dispenda), I Nyoman Sudarma, explained on Friday (Apr. 8) that the activities outside the Dauh Pala Market are restricted from 20:00 until 06:00. “Beyond these hours they should not be selling goods at roadside,”

said Sudarma. According to him, the mer-

chants at roadside of Dauh Pala Market dominated by the mer-chants of canang (offerings) and on vehicle received public com-plaints as causing traffic crowd-edness and this has become one

of the highlights of the Ombuds-man. “After the hours specified, all the merchants used to sell at roadside must move into the market,” he said. With the move of merchants in the rush-hours, they finally leave space for the parking of visitors to Dauh Pala Market and resolve the crowded-ness happened.

According to Sudarma, the instruction of deputy regent is not only intended for the Dauh Pala market but also for the entire traditional markets in Tabanan, especially in arranging and maintaining the sanitation.

For the Dauh Pala Market, the determination of selling activity at roadside is set specifically be-cause this market is the only one growing up outside the market. “In addition, the Dauh Pala mar-ket is also governed by custom-ary village. From 05:00 to 10:00 local time, the activities are taken over by local customary village,” explained Sudarma.

Other than the Dauh Pala Mar-ket, instruction of the deputy re-gent also regulates the operating hours of Pasar Senggol or night market at 16:00. The transit time of merchants on vehicle in the

Tabanan Market is also limited to 05:00 and after that the space is used for parking of visitors.

With such discipline, the Head of the Tabanan Transportation and Infocom Agency, Made Agus Hartawiguna, said that policing of the merchants on vehicle and at roadside of the Dauh Pala Market gives a new look to the arrangement of the Tabanan town into a neater condition and resolve the crowdedness. “Traf-fic jams no longer occur at rush hours. There is even space to park for visitors to the markets,” he said. (kmb24)

Regent of Tabanan about the management of traditional market, the merchants peddling outside the market are disciplined to overcome traffic crowdedness. One of the markets in Tabanan showing many merchants peddling outside the market, in this case at roadside, is the dauh Pala Market. To that end, to discipline the merchants outside the dauh Pala Market, their activity is limited by hours.

Government figures released Friday show that 84.5 million tour-ists visited continental France, an increase of 0.9 percent from 2014. The press office for France’s minis-try of foreign affairs said the latest figure “was an absolute record.”

The Nov. 13 attacks in which 130 people died had a negative

impact, with a drop of 15 percent in the numbers of foreign visitors traveling to Paris in the months of November and December. Before that massacre, two shooters had stormed the office of a satirical newspaper in January, killing a dozen people.

After a 1.8 percent increase over

the first three quarters, there was a 3.1 percent drop at national level in the last quarter.

“The attacks that hit Paris in November have restricted this in-crease, particularly in the capital,” French foreign affairs minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said. “My goal remains to welcome 100 million foreign tourists every year in France from 2020.”

Paris tourism took a hit in the weeks following the violence. State statistics agency Insee said earlier

this year that hotel occupancy in the French capital dropped by 25 per-cent in the two weeks that followed the attacks, compared with Novem-ber 2014. Air France estimated the attacks caused 120 million euros ($130 million) in lost revenue.

But French authorities note that the country remains the world’s leading tourist destination, with hotel stays going up 0.8 percent across France in 2015.

According to the latest figures, the largest increase was among

tourists coming from Asia, whose numbers grew by 22.7 percent, with Chinese visitors surpassing 2 million. The number of American tourists also increased consider-ably, by 15.2 percent to 3.6 million in 2015, “marking a return of these customers to France,” officials said in a statement.

There was a 1.5 percent drop in European visitors although the number of British tourists crossing the Channel went up 3.3 percent. (ap)

Tourism to France rose in 2015 despite Paris attacks

PARIS — The overall number of tourists visiting France in 2015 rose marginally compared with the year before to reach an all-time high despite the two deadly attacks in Paris in January and November.

Construction of the water park facility in the middle of open sea makes a number of tourism players around the coast of Kalibukbuk and Banyualit hamlet fret. It happens because the company has no permit for the whole documents. In addi-tion, installation of the facilities is feared to disrupt the development of coral reef in the local waters.

As observation of Bali Post at the location on Saturday afternoon (Apr. 9), the water park facilities in striking colors looked to float in the sea at a distance of about tens of meters from mainland. To bind the floating facilities so as not to be swept away by water flow, the company put out to sea anchor. The company began to install the facilities a few weeks ago. After the installation, PT Kreasi Bali Utara (KBU) as the management has conducted a test on the water park facilities.

One of the residents, also sitting in the management board of the Indonesia Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) of Buleleng, Ketut Budiastra, accompanied by a number of hotel owners on Saturday afternoon said that pro-vincial government has provided location permit but has never made an approach or dissemination to residents and tourism stakehold-ers. Actually, the company has not provided with dissemination related to the business plan. Actually, at the location installed with the water park facilities there are coral reefs began to be preserved. Moreover, the Buleleng Maritime and Fisher-ies Agency has conducted coral reef conservation along approximately five kilometers.

Moreover, sea bed in the vicinity of the water park facilities is full of corals and it will harm if there is swimming activity. In addition, Budiastra admitted to worry if the installation of water park facilities seems to hamper sea view relied

upon by tourism players at Lovina and the surroundings. If this prob-lem is not addressed, he feared to have a bad impact on marine tourism development concept at Lovina relying on panorama of sea with tranquil waves and attractions like dolphin or diving. At the time of initial installation, visitors and travel agencies complained because they are disturbed by the water park facilities.

“In the past, we’ve got informa-tion from the media if the water park facilities were demolished because of having no permit. Now,

they are installed again and we’ve got information from the province if it has owned the permit location and other permits. We questioned that before issuing the permit the government did not provide expla-nation for residents including tour-ism players around it,” he said.

On this condition, Budiastra and some other tourism players complaining about the impact of water park facilities will send a letter to relevant provincial gov-ernment related to the permit of the business location. In addition, his organization will ask so that location of the water park can be shifted. This can be done because there is still space on the high seas that are more suitable to develop the water park. He exemplified that location in the north of Se-

gara Temple of Banyualit village is suitable location and has fine sandy seabed. Thus, it will be safer for guests to do activities. In addition, the location which is not less good is on Lovina Beach or just north of the dolphin statue. Other than consideration of loca-tion, it is also more feasible.

“We do not reject the presence of investors, but it will be nicer if the location is shifted to the west or east. If the location can be shifted, it will be much nicer and not harm. Besides, it offers reasonable and smooth access to the location. If there are guests at Kalibukbuk or Banyualit, they can come to the location. The access from the Singaraja-Seririt road section is also difficult due to narrow streets and large buses cannot pass,” he

explained.Just a reminder, the water park

developed by foreign investor has started to be installed late 2015. At that time, municipal police of-ficers of the Buleleng district and Bali province have come down to location and found the installation of the water park in the middle of the sea.

At that time, the company has not completed its permit document. Over the violation, the municipal police of Bali province asked so that the water park facilities are dragged to mainland. NEGARA - The area of land located in Budeng Village and owned by PT. Angkasa Pura that was slatted to be planted with mangrove trees, remains empty and pockmarked. This land was meant to replace the land that was used for the expansion of Ngurah Rai International Airport but the area has yet to be planted with man-grove as planned. Most of the area

remains swampy and scarred from the embankment.

According to information gath-ered, the area all along the road that leads to Seacorm and Peran-cak Village is included in the land that was swapped for the land at Tahura that was used the expan-sion of the airport. Jembrana’s Forestry Office data states that the forested area of 44,000 hectares of

mangrove falls into the District of Jembrana.

‘Letter of Decision’ from the Ministry of Forestry No.439/Men-hut-II/2008 dated 26th, 26 Novem-ber 2008 regarding the appointment of 44,000 hectares of replacement land emphasises that this land is to be planted with mangrove. The status of this area of mangrove forest would still be ‘productive’.

However, since the land has yet be planted with mangrove trees, the area cannot be called forest.

As observed last Thursday, (Apr 7), most of the land owned by PT Angkasa Pura I is still empty and there are no mangrove trees there yet. Meanwhile the area that already has mangroves growing has a sign posted that forbids fishing, or hunt-ing other animals like frogs whose

habitat is mangrove forest. This area is quite extensive and

is crossed by the road that leads to Perancak Village and Seacon (Cen-ter for Ocean research and Observa-tions). Apart from mangrove forest tourism, the mangrove trees in this area are also used by the surround-ing community for making batik, and for making certain foods and beverages. (kmb26)

SEOUL - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un supervised a suc-cessful test of a new engine for an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), state media said on Saturday, in their latest report of ad-vances in an arms programme that has attracted U.N. sanctions.

South Korea and the United States have shown scepticism over the North’s statements about rapid progress in its nuclear and missile programmes ahead of a ruling party congress in May, where analysts expect it to declare itself a major nuclear weapons state.

Tension has remained high on the Korean peninsula after the North’s nuclear test and a long-range rocket launch earlier in the year and South Korean and U.S. troops conducted large-scale joint drills amid harsh rhetoric from both rival Koreas.

The engine was ignited at Kim’s command and released a fiery blast, and the test showed the indigenously designed rocket fulfilled all required conditions, the North’s official KCNA news agency said.

“Dear Comrade Kim Jong Un said now we can mount an ever more powerful nuclear warhead on a new intercontinental ballistic rocket and put the den of evil in the United States, and all over the world, within our strike range,” the agency said.

The test was conducted at the North’s missile station near its west coast, where, in February, the country launched a long-range rocket that put an object into space orbit, KCNA said.

South Korea’s defence officials did not immediately provide comment on the authenticity of Saturday’s report.

The North said in March it had miniaturised a nuclear warhead to be mounted on ballistic missiles and conducted a simulated re-entry test of a ballistic missile, which could indicate advances in its ICBM programme, if true.

But South Korean officials questioned those assertions and said the North was several years away from developing an ICBM. The United States said there was no proof of the North’s statements and urged Pyongyang to halt actions that fuel tension.

The North conducted its fourth nuclear test in January and the rocket launch in February, in defiance of international warnings and past U.N. sanctions, triggering a new Security Council resolution that imposed more punishment.

Despite its assertions, the North has yet to conduct a flight-test of a long-range missile or an ICBM and show mastery of the tech-nology needed to bring a missile back into the atmosphere and hit a target with precision. (rtr)

The revelations have led to de-mands for Cameron’s resignation and handed ammunition to opposi-tion lawmakers who questioned why he was reluctant to detail his financial connections with his father.

Cameron took the unorthodox step of releasing the normally confidential details after saying he should have handled the scrutiny of his family’s tax affairs better.

The documents from RNS Char-tered Accountants - which cover six years - show Cameron paid tax of 75,898 pounds ($107,198) on

income of 200,307 pounds in the 2014-2015 financial year, the most recent one included.

His income comprised his 140,522 pound salary, taxable expenses of 9,834 pounds, 46,899 pounds from half of the share of rent from his family home in London and 3,052 pounds in interest on savings, according to the record.

Scores of politicians and busi-ness figures have been implicated in the Panama Papers, including the prime minister of Iceland who has since stepped down. The 11.5

million documents leaked from the Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca detail the creation of more than 200,000 companies in offshore tax havens.

While Cameron is not accused of doing anything illegal, he made four different statements over four days about his late father’s inclusion in the documents.

He said on Thursday he once had a stake in his father’s offshore trust and had profited from it.

He said the unit investment trust was not set up to avoid tax but to invest in dollar-denominated shares and that he had paid all taxes due on his own investment, which was worth “something like 30,000 pounds” when he sold out in Janu-ary 2010, before he became prime minister. (rtr)

SINGARAJA - Buleleng fishermen have started breeding ornamenal fish and business has been booming thanks to both the demand and the fantastically high price of these rare fish that are sought after by both local and overseas customers.

The governement of Buleleng has there-fore been supporting the development of the ornamental fish industry along with the private sector. Mina Lestari, a Fisher-men group from Les Village in Tejakula have been development this fish breed-

ing business by raising three varieties of ornamental fish that includes ornamental shrimp.

The idea to breed these fish came first from the fishemen who were then assisted by the government and the private sector in making Les Village the headquarters for the breeding of ornamental fish. The fishermen started off with wild fish from the ocean that they have now been breed-ing in captivity.

Head of the Seedling and Breeding De-

partment (Kasubid) of the Directorate of Fisheries for the Ministry of Fisheries of Indonesia(KKP), said that until now there have been very few developments made in the breeding of ornamental fish. Fishermen who already had the relevant knowledge about how to breed ornamental fish, took the initiative to develop this breeding center and succeeded in their struggle to reached their target of prosperity.

Head of the Bureau of Fisheries (Diskan-la), Ir Made Arnika said that he welcomed

the fishermen’s endeavour to breed orna-mental fish in conjunction with the private sector. Apart from enhancing the economic well-being of the fishermen, this breeding business can also contribute to preventing wild fish stocks of ornamental from being overfished. ìThis is most appropriate, be-cause fishermen make money form selling the fish they breed rather than from selling off wild fish. We will facilitate fishermen in developing this type of fish breedingî, said Arnika. (kmb38)

Veronica, spokesperson for Black Eye coffee , there are more varieties of Arabica beans each yielding a different aroma, and so these beans are more commonly sold. ìThe taste and aroma of Ara-bica are more varied that that of

Robusta beans”, she said. However Indonesia has more varieties of Ro-busta beans than Arabica, though in terms of variety of flavour Arabica beans have more variations.

According to Veronica, Indone-sian coffee beans all tell the stories

of the farmers who grew them. In terms of both flavour and texture, coffee beans grown by different farmers reflect the differences in the growing process. It is a lengthly process from planting the bean to grinding them into coffee and each step in the process affects the flavour of the beans. ìGenerally speaking, different areas also have their own unique flavour of bean. Kintamani coffee for example, is

known for the hint of citrus found in the beans as coffee there is planted intermittently with orange trees. Whereas say Toraja coffee has a slightly spicy flavour to it as coffee beans there are grown near herbs and spices” she explained.

Indonesia is not only the worlds largest producer of coffee but also has the largest number of special types of coffee.. ìIndonesia has the widest array of different flavoured coffees in

the world”, said Veronica. It is the uniqueness of Indonesian

coffee that led Black Eye Coffee to create an educational tourist attrac-tion with a coffee museum about the history, types and other facts about Indonesian coffee. ìThis is how it became an place of education, so that tourists can better aquainte themselves with the different type of coffee that taste of Indonesia” she said. Hammond said in Beijing that the British govern-ment was seeking a “long-term, sustainable future” for the Port Talbot steelmaking plant in Wales, which is facing possible closure. Many local workers blame Chinese “dumping” for the plant’s potential demise.

China itself has been wracked by massive over-capacity problems as steel prices and demand have plummeted. Tens of thousands of workers have been laid off in government-driven cuts, leading to unrest in China’s northeast.

Characterizing bilateral relations as a “strategic partnership,” Hammond also said he raised concerns with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi about Hong Kong booksellers who disappeared for months amid reports that they had been abducted by Chinese se-curity forces.

Prior to his Beijing visit, Hammond met Friday with Hong Kong’s leader, Leung Chun-ying, reit-erating Britain’s support for the “one country, two systems” policy governing Hong Kong’s autonomy as part of the agreement when Britain handed the territory back to China two decades ago.

Five booksellers affiliated with a publishing house dealing in titles about Chinese Communist Party elite went missing in late 2015, including British citizen Lee Bo, who has insisted in television interviews that he was assisting an investigation in mainland China on his own volition.

Britain has maintained that Lee was involuntarily taken, while China has accused it of interfering in a domestic matter.(ap)

WASHINGTON — The Com-merce Department says U.S. whole-sale businesses reduced their stock-piles for the fifth straight month in February, while their sales dropped for the fourth straight month.

Inventories held by wholesale businesses slid 0.5 percent from January. It was the biggest drop since a 0.6 percent decrease in May 2013. Sales fell 0.2 percent in February, the smallest drop since sales were flat in October.

The numbers reflect sluggish economic growth. U.S. businesses have struggled over the past year with spreading weakness overseas and a strong dollar, which makes American products less competitive on foreign markets.

The U.S. economy expanded at a lackluster 1.4 percent annual pace from October through December. Many economists expect growth to come in below 1 percent in the first three months of 2016.(ap)

NEW YORK — Stocks are rising in early trading, led by energy companies as the price of crude oil turns sharply higher. Murphy Oil jumped 5 percent early Friday, and off-shore drilling company Trans-ocean gained 4.5 percent.

The price of benchmark U.S. crude rose 5 percent in New York. Gap plunged 9 per-cent after reporting big drops in March sales. That weighed on other retailers too.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 97 points, or 0.6 percent, to 17,638 of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index climbed 11 points, or 0.6 percent, to 2,053. The Nasdaq composite added 26 points, or 0.6 percent, to 4,875. The market is coming off its biggest loss in six weeks. Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 1.72 percent.(ap)

U.S. Air Forces Central Command said it last flew the long-range bombers operationally in the region in May 2006 as part of the war in Afghanistan, and during a U.S.-led military exercise in Jordan in May 2015.

“The B-52 demonstrates our continued resolve to apply persistent pressure on Daesh and defend the region in any future contingency,” said Air Force Lieutenant General Charles Brown, commander of U.S. Air Forces Central Command.

Daesh is the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State militant movement.

Lieutenant Colonel Chris Karns, spokesman for the Central Command, said he could not provide the exact number of B-52 bombers to be based at Al Udeid Air Basein Qatar due to “operational security reasons.”

Washington’s decision to deploy its powerful B-52 bombers to Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar came as the U.S. military stepped up the fight against Islamic State

in Iraq and Syria.Brown said the bombers would be

able to deliver precision weapons and carry out a range of missions, including strategic attack, close-air support, air interdiction, and maritime operations.

Karns said the bombers would enable U.S. forces to drop one or two muni-tions in an area, rather than use carpet bombing.

“Accuracy is critically important in this war,” he said. “Carpet-bombing would not be effective for the operation we’re in because Daesh doesn’t mass as large groups. Often, they blend into population centers. We always look to minimize civilian casualties.” (rtr)

WARSAW — Ceremonies were held in Poland on Sunday honoring late President Lech Kaczynski and the 95 others who were killed in a 2010 plane crash in Russia, amid revived allegations that the crash was a conspiracy by Russia and Poland’s government at the time.

The allegations come from the ruling Law and Justice party led by the late president’s twin. Jaroslaw Kaczynski and his followers claim they have evidence that “almost certainly” proves that the president’s plane fell into pieces in mid-air from an attack as it was preparing to land at Smolensk airport. Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz has said the crash was an act of terrorism perpetrated by Russia.

Moscow has denounced the allegations as “absurd” and official investigations by Poland and Russia have concluded that the crash was an accident caused by errors of the crew trying to land in heavy fog.

A team of Polish lawmakers recently opened a new probe into the crash which was the country’s worst na-tional disaster since World War II.

On Sunday, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, Prime Minister Beata Szydlo, other government officials, victims’ fami-lies and hundreds of Warsaw residents were taking part in prayers and wreaths’ laying at the victims’ graves and memorials.

Among the victims were lawmakers from various political parties, armed forces’ commanders and Poland’s last president of the Polish government-in-exile, Ryszard Kaczorowski.

They were flying to Russia for observances honoring Polish officers killed in the forest of Katyn and elsewhere by the Soviet secret police in 1940. For decades Moscow refused to acknowledge responsibility for those crimes, and the subject was also taboo for decades of Moscow-backed communist rule in Poland. (ap)

CALIFORNIA - The Golden State Warriors’ quest to become a big part of NBA history remains alive -- barely.

Golden State, seeking to become the first team in league history to win 73 games during the regular season, was nearly denied the opportunity by the slumping, injury- depleted Memphis Grizzlies.

Memphis, which had lost 11 of its past 14, led most of the final quarter before falling to the Warriors 100-99 on Saturday.

Golden State, which rested starting center Andrew Bogut, had difficulty against a team it had beaten soundly in two earlier games -- including a 50-point win at home.

Steph Curry and Klay Thompson struggled from long range going a combined 5 for 24, but Draymond Green rescued the Warriors with 23 points, including the game-winning tip-in with a minute to go. He also had 11 rebounds.

“I think the whole game we weren’t playing with any intensity,” Green said.

“We were just out there thinking we were supposed to win and they were taking advantage of that. We got down 10 (points) and the crowd was going crazy and we finally started playing with that intensity.”

Golden State is 71-9 with games remaining at San Antonio on Sunday and at home against the Grizzlies on Wednesday. The Warriors are attempt-ing to surpass the 1995-96 Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls, who finished 72-10.

“I shouldn’t say this, but I don’t care that much (about reaching 73 wins),” Golden State coach Steve Kerr said.

“I know the players do. I just want to be fresh and ready for the playoffs.”

Thompson added 20 points and Curry finished with 17, although he went 3 for 14 from beyond the arc.

“The (73) wins are in the back of our minds because it would be such a great accomplishment,” Thompson said.

“Whether we get it or not, we’re not going to hang our heads because it’s been such a great season.”

Matt Barnes led the Grizzlies with 24 points and 15 rebounds, and Vince Carter scored 15.

Memphis had a chance to win in the final eight seconds, but Lance Ste-phenson missed two shots -- one from close range and a desperation 16-foot fadeaway at the buzzer. (rtr)

Pacquiao, who bounced back from a controversial split-decision defeat to Bradley in 2012 with a decisive win two years later, delivered the final blow in their welterweight clash in Las Vegas as all three judges scored it 116-110 in his favor.

With fans chanting ‘Manny’ at the conclusion, Pacquiao (58-6-2) maintained that he is heading into retirement and con-tinuing his political career in the Philippines.

“I have a commitment to my family that I’m going to retire after this and we don’t know,” Pacquiao told ringside reporters.

“If you ask me about if I’m com-ing back, maybe I enjoy by being retired and serving and helping the people.”

After a slow start narrowly con-trolled by Bradley, the 37-year-old Pacquiao seized the momentum in the middle portion following a furious fifth round.

Pacquiao then caught an off bal-

ance Bradley with a right hand to the ear to drop him in the seventh, but the American surprisingly bounced back to hurt Pacquiao during the eighth.

From there Pacquiao wrested back control, highlighted by a right uppercut that dropped Bradley in the ninth.

At the strong urging of his trainer Teddy Atlas, Bradley (33-2-1) continued to hang in for the latter rounds though he appeared in trouble at the final bell.

“Every round (I was) looking for a KO but Bradley is a very good boxer,” Pacquiao said of the performance, which may go some way to helping cement his legacy after a disappointing fight against Floyd Mayweather last May.

Mayweather easily won the fight that lacked much action to retire undefeated, though Pacquiao’s support team said afterwards he had suffered a shoulder injury in train-ing beforehand and later needed surgery. (rtr)

TABANAN - Alas Kedaton Temple is a small forest with the width about 6-7ha located in the middle of the rice field in Tabanan regency, west part of Bali. The total size of Kedaton forest, temple and its supporter facility is about 12 ha. In this forest, there is a temple called Alas Kedaton Temple and owns the natural environments that is looked green with its fresh air and create the calm, quite and holy atmosphere.

The monkeys in Alas Kedaton Temple are very tame and free gal-livanting in temple yard, so that the calm atmosphere is sometime solved by noise voice of the monkey, which are playing around and scrambling of food. The monkeys who dwell in Alas Kedaton Temple, there are jump up and down in temple wall, take a bath in moat or there is also hang out in few leaves representing impression view. The monkey like as custodian of temple, which are always ready to greet all visitor who are paying a visit to Alas Kedaton Temple. Beside monkeys, in Keda-ton forest also can be met the bats and some other animals. At least 24

types of grove plant have been iden-tified in Alas Kedaton Temple.

Mario Mandzukic wiped out Alex’s opening score in the first half, and Paul Pogba secured the win for Juventus after an hour. Milan had chances but goal-keeper Gianluigi Buffon was resolute.

Second-place Napoli hosts bottom club Hellas Verona on Sunday. “We’re nine points ahead of Napoli, but it’s not over yet, we have to continue winning,” Pogba said. “We played like a mature team today, we deserved to win.

“I wouldn’t say we’re helped by any-one. We make the difference because we defend and attack all together. People talk a lot, but we just have to continue like this, then we’ll see at the end.” Mi-lan will play Juventus again this season, in the Italian Cup final.

“It’s difficult to analyze this defeat, we didn’t deserve to lose,” Milan coach Sinisa Mihajlovic said. “We have never been lucky this year, the result makes me angry, but we have saved face. We come out of this match with our heads

held high and this display has given us confidence with regards to the Italian Cup.

“Buffon made the difference, and I have nothing to reproach my lads for. Now, apart from Roma, we’re playing teams which aren’t as good as us on paper. If we play like how we did against Juve we can do well.”

Inter moved to fourth, two points above Fiorentina and five points behind third-place Roma, which occupies the fi-nal Champions League qualifying spot. Roma hosts Bologna on Monday.

Frosinone remained one point from safety after fellow struggler Carpi lost at Chievo Verona 1-0. Genoa won at Sassuolo 1-0 in a match which was delayed for several minutes because of a hailstorm.

In Milan, there was a touching trib-ute before kickoff to former player and coach Cesare Maldini, who died last week at the age of 84.

Milan, which had been on a training retreat since an embarrassing defeat to Atalanta last week, almost took the lead in the eighth minute but Ignazio Abate’s effort came off the post. Minutes later, Buffon pulled off a fantastic save to scoop Mario Balotelli’s free kick off the line.

Milan did go in front in the 14th as an unmarked Alex powerfully headed in Balotelli’s corner. Juventus leveled with a long ball from Buffon landing at Alvaro Morata, who prodded it through for Mandzukic to fire into the bottom left corner, wrong-footing Milan goal-keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Milan almost restored its lead shortly after the break but Buffon parried a Carlos Bacca strike and somehow pushed Balotelli’s follow-up onto the bar. Balotelli, who has yet to score in the league since returning from injury, desperately clawed it in but it was ruled out, and he was booked for handball. Pogba hit the post on the hour mark before scoring what was to prove the winner five minutes later, chesting down the ball at the back post and scuffing his shot, which nevertheless bounced over Donnarumma. LONDON — Jose Mourinho declined Syria’s offer to coach the war-torn nation’s team on Saturday while reiterating his desire to return to management in England next season. The Portuguese, who has been linked with Manchester Unit-ed since being fired by Chelsea for a second time in December, insisted he has no contract with a club.

“I don’t have a contract with any club but in the summer I will be back,” Mourinho told British broadcaster Sky Sports as he pre-pared to watch boxing in London.

Louis van Gaal remains in charge of United, which has not denied a constant stream of reports that it wants Mourinho to replace the Dutchman.

“(Van Gaal) is my friend, I worked with him for a few years,” Mourinho said. “I am always linked

with jobs and in the summer I will have a job, but in this moment I can promise you I do not have a contract with any club ... I would prefer (to stay in England). I love the country, the football here. My family is very stable and happy.”

On the Syria offer, the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan coach said: “In a very special way we said we were not interested in the job.”

Earlier, agent Jorge Mendes’ company, Gestifute, told The As-sociated Press: “While (Mourinho) felt honored to receive the invita-tion, he cannot at the moment accept it.”

Syria’s soccer team, which has never qualified for the World Cup, is to play in Asia’s third round of qualifying, scheduled to begin in August. (ap)

BARCELONA - Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has challenged his stuttering side to respond to Sat-urday’s 1-0 La Liga defeat at Real Sociedad by repeating last season’s treble of Champions League, do-mestic title and King’s Cup.

Barca saw their lead at the top over nearest challengers Atletico Madrid cut to only three points with six games left, having held a nine-point advantage less than a fortnight ago, and are now just four points ahead of Real Madrid.

“It’s an opportunity for us to demonstrate we’re the best in the world like our shirt says,” Luis Enrique told a news conference as they look to defend a 2-1 lead in their Champions league quarter-final, second leg at Atletico on Wednesday.

“Everything is to play for and to win. No-one’s going to leave here crying. At this stage last year we were only two points above second place with a worse head-to-head difference.”

Barcelona host struggling Va-lencia next Sunday followed by a midweek trip to Deportivo with home games against Sporting Gijon and Espanyol and matches at Real Betis and Granada to follow.

They have failed to win in their last three league matches, their longest run out without a La Liga victory since Luis Enrique took charge in 2014, and the coach em-phasised the importance of taking every last point.

“We obviously can’t drop any more points. We weren’t at our best in the last few games and this league will be won by the most consistent team in the remaining games. I want the Nou Camp fuller than ever against Valencia.”

Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta vowed that they would re-spond and said there was no reason to panic.

He told reporters: “Everything can happen over a season but we are Barca and we are close to our objective. We have to think about

what’s coming next, we can’t make excuses. In the end the league will be won by the most consistent team.”

Second-placed Atletico are at home in four of their remaining six games and look to have the easiest run-in of the three championship contenders.

Diego Simeone’s side cut the gap to three points after coming from behind to win 3-1 at Espa-nyol and the Argentine coach said his team would not relent in their title bid.

“I was always taught that you should insist and believe in what you do,” he told a news conference. “Things happen when you least expect them to and we are giving everything we have.”

Real are also firmly back in the title hunt having earlier thrashed Eibar 4-0 inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo who became the first player to hit 30 La Liga goals in six consecutive seasons. (rtr)

TOKYO — Yoshito Okubo scored a record 159th career goal on Sunday as Kawasaki Frontale defeated Sagan Tosu 1-0 to move into first place in the J-League standings. Okubo

broke the deadlock with a header in s toppage t ime as Kawa -saki improved to 14 points, one ahead of Urawa Reds which was held to a scoreless draw by Yokohama F Marinos.

Okubo moved ahead of Hi-roshima’s Hisato Sato for the most goals in J-League his-tory. In other matches, Vissel Kobe and promoted Avispa Fukuoka ended goalless, while

Jin Izumisawa scored the win-ner as Omiya Ardija came from a goal down to beat Nagoya Grampus 2-1.

Gamba Osaka beat Vegalta Sendai 3-1 and Ventforet Kofu

defeated Shonan Bellmare by the same score.

Brazilian Caio scored a pair of goals as Kashima Antlers thrashed defending champions Hiroshima 4-1. (ap)

LONDON — The English Football Associa-tion will ask FIFA to investigate whether former players have dementia as a consequence of brain damage from playing the game. Three members of England’s 1966 World Cup squad — Martin Peters, Nobby Stiles, Ray Wilson — have Al-zheimer’s, family members told Saturday’s Daily Mirror newspaper.

Concerns have grown in Britain about the impact of head injuries after campaigning by the family of former England striker Jeff Astle, whose death in 2002 was attributed to repeatedly heading heavy, leather balls.

English FA medical head Ian Beasley is seek-ing assistance from world soccer’s governing body to help determine if there are definitive long-term health dangers from playing the game, and if prospective players should be warned.

“We are taking some research questions to FIFA imminently to ask, ‘Can you help us in trying to find out if dementia is more common in ex-professional footballers?’” Beasley told The Associated Press on Saturday.

“The trouble is we just don’t know ... it’s a massive undertaking to try and decide whether there’s an association between having played professional football and cognitive decline, dementia you might call it commonly — brain damage causing functional impairment over time. We just don’t know. It’s always tempting to say ‘It must be.’ But we’re not sure.”

Last year, the U.S. Soccer Federation recom-mended a ban on headers for players 10 and under in a bid to address concerns about the impact of head injuries. Beasley, who is also the England team doctor, wants researchers to assess whether the severity of any brain damage depends on which position the person played, how many games they played, and at which level.

“The hope is (FIFA) will tell us one way or another,” Beasley said. “This is a health and safety issue in the end, and that’s what it will come down to. You may still want to be a profes-sional footballer but at least we can advise you what the chances are of something irreversible happening to you.”

FIFA chief medical officer Jiri Dvorak was not aware of the FA seeking specific research into links between footballers’ brain trauma and dementia.

“We have very little evidence that would sub-stantiate that assumption for football players,” Dvorak told the AP at the Football Medicine Strategies conference in London. “But that’s the reason why we are also studying the long-term changes of former professional male and female footballers. Not only for brain dysfunction but also early onset of osteoarthritis. “We are look-ing at the long-term changes without having any suspicions yet.” (ap)

(rtr)

(ap)

BENGKULU - An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter Scale jolted Bengkulu Province on Sunday at 9:14 a.m. local time.

The quakes epicenter was located at 61 km southwest Bengkulu, or 4.32 degrees southern latitude and 102.09 degrees eastern longitude, analyst of the Fatmawati airport meteorology station Anjasman, said here, Sunday.

“The depth of the earthquake was 16 km. The public should not be worried,” he said. He called on the lo-cal inhabitants to anticipate aftershocks following the magnitude-5.9 earthquake.

Local residents of the districts of Central Bengkulu, Seluma and North Bengkulu as well as Bengkulu city, felt the tremor strongly. Partini, a local inhabitant, said she fell into a ditch while the earthquake occurred.

“I am very nervous because it reminds me of the major earthquake in 2000 that destroyed many houses,” she said.(ant)

PADANG - The Padang munici-pality will organize a Tuna Rendang Festival to highlight the Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo (MNEK) or Komodo Sail scheduled for April 13, 2016. “The rendang festival will be unusual because it does not feature beef, but tuna fish,” Head of the Padang Tourism and Cultural Office Medi Iswandi said here.

Some 100 stoves and 100 kg of tuna fish will be made available during the festival. Chefs of foreign warships participating in the Komodo naval ex-ercise will be involved in the rendang cooking activities to be held along Lake Cimpago, Padang coast.

“Hopefully, the Tuna Rendang Festival will attract tourists to come to Padang during the MNEK,” he

said. Cultural and art performances will also be organized during the festival.

Traditional dances will be performed to entertain visitors, particularly to wel-come President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). The international naval exercise will be held in Padang and Mentawai Islands waters from April 12 to 16. A number of Indonesian war ships have arrived in Teluk Bayur seaport, West Sumatra, for the event.

The Company was requested to complete the permits in accordance with the existing regulations. Few months later, the company re-installed the water park installation at the original location.

(kmb26)

(kmb24)

To overcome crowdedness at Dauh Pala Market

Roadside merchant disciplinedTABANAN — Following the instruction letter of the deputy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flew to Kollam with a team of doctors to help state authorities cope with the large number of injured people, mov-ing swiftly to pre-empt criticism over lack of public safety.

“The fire at the temple in Kol-lam is heart-rending and shocking beyond words,” he said in a Twitter post. “My thoughts are with families of the deceased and prayers with the injured.”

Modi has faced public criticism in the past for failing to respond quickly to disasters such as the floods in Chennai late last year. Large parts of the metropolis were under water for days before government help arrived.

Kerala’s Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said 97 people were dead in the temple fire, many of whom

were trapped by flames in the temple building. He said 245 were injured. Television images showed people, some clutching children with burn injuries, being taken to hospitals.

The federal government also or-dered the military to help the Kerala state authorities with two navy ships sailing to Kollam with medical sup-plies.

NO PERMISSIONWith Kerala in the midst of an

election for a new state assembly, the temple fire quickly turned into a political issue as local leaders demanded an investigation into the fireworks display.

In Kerala, Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party trails its rivals the Congress party and the communists. The BJP has focused on building up grassroots

strength in the state for decades.Kerala’s Chief Minister Chandy

said the Kollam district administra-tion had denied the temple authorities permission to carry out the fireworks display, and that the government will investigate how they went ahead. “There was no permission to even store the fireworks,” he said.

Police has registered a case against the temple authorities for negligence. The temple trust was not immediately available for comment.

Kerala is studded with temples, managed by rich and powerful trusts that often flout local regulations. Each year temples carry out fireworks displays, often competing to stage the most spectacular ones. There are judges who decide the winners.

Kollam district magistrate A. Shainamol said people living in the

neighbourhood of the temple had complained about the danger of these fireworks in the past.

The explosion from the fireworks was so strong that some parts of the temple roof caved in. Local media showed bulldozers trying to clear the area of the debris. The Puttingal temple is one of the oldest in the state. It was built on the site of an ant hill where locals believe a goddess ap-peared centuries ago.(rtr)

Hundreds of fishermen came to the Bali parliamentary building to voice out their aspirations related to the policy of the Minister of Maritime and Fisheries Af-fairs. They are very disappointed because Minister Susi Pudjiastuti issued Ministe-

rial Regulation No.01/KP/2015 as well as Ministerial Regulation No.56, 57/KP/2014.

Ministerial Regulation No.01/KP/2015 causes fishermen to no longer able to freely catch lobster for export. The lobster allowed to be captured for export must weigh 200 grams or more. In the meantime, the sea of Bali is the habitat to sand lobster with average size of 100-200 grams.

“Regulation of the Minister of Maritime and Fish-eries has been devastating to the people, making new poverty, creating unemployment in the community, and not educating the nation because fishermen no longer afford to send their children to school,” said the chief of Bali Fishermen Society, Ketut Arsana Yasa.
