TANGGAPAN NG PUNONG BARANGAY
MENSAHE
Ang Sangguniang barangay ng Ponon ay patuloy na magsisikap na
maitaas ang antas ng pamumuhay sa aming barangay. Layunin naming
magkaroon ng mamamayan na may matatag na hanapbuhay, may respeto sa
karapatan ng kapwa at may takot sa Diyos. Magkaroon ng isang pamayanan na
may maayos, Masaya at may organisadong kapaligiran. Maipaabot sa bawat
mamamayan ng barangay ang pangunahing pangangailangan nila.
Patuloy din susubaybayan ang mga kabataan upang tahakin ang tamang
landas patungo sa matatag na bukas. At sa patnubay ng Poong Lumikha at
pagkakaisa ng bawat mamamayan ng barangay ang adhikain ng Sangguniang
Barangay ay magkaroon ng katuparan. Barangayanihan susi ng kaunlaran.

TANGGAPAN NG PUNUMBAYAN
MENSAHE
Mahalaga ang kamulatan ng mamamayan sa mga impormasyon ukol sa
bawat barangay ng Atimonan. Ang magbigay ng konkreto at angkop na mga
datos ang layunin ng Socio-Economic Profile ng mga Barangay. Ito rin ang
magsisilbing matibay na batayan upang mabalangkas ng Pamahalaang Bayan
ang mga programang pangkaunlaran na ang mamamayan ang higit na
makikinabang.
Ang ating mamamayan ang salamin ng kaunlaran ng bayan kaya ang
progreso ng apatnapu’t dalawang barangay ay pinapahalagahan ng Lokal na
Pamahalaan ng Atimonan. Ang Socio-economic Profile ang testimonya na patuloy
ang pag-unlad ng ating bayan.

Punumbayan
KATANGIAN AT INTERPRETASYON SA OPISYAL NA LOGO NG BARANGAY
Ang opisyal na sagisag (logo) ay binubuo ng dalawang hugis bilog, isa(1) sa loob at isa
sa labas. Ang espasyo sa gitna ng dalawang (2) hugis bilog ay nakasulat ang mga
sumusunod:
BARANGAY PONON – pangalan ng barangay at nakalagay sa itaas na bahagi ng
hugis bilog.
ATIMONAN, QUEZON – pangalan ng bayan at probinsyang nakakasakop sa
Barangay at nakalagay sa ibabang bahagi ng hugis bilog.
Ang gitnang bahagi ng nasa loob ng bilog ang mga sumasagisag sa
pagkakakilanlan ng barangay ay ang mga sumusunod:
BUGHAW NA KALANGITAN ang kulay ng kapayapaan, pag-asa at pagiging
maka-Diyos ng mga mamamayan na naninirahan sa barangay.
PALAY sumisimbolo sa anyong lupa na kung saan ang mga mamamayan ay dito
kinukuha ang pangunahing ikinabubuhay.
KABUNDUKAN sumisimbolo sa Likas na Yaman na makikita sa barangay.
PAMILYANG MAGKAKAHAWAK KAMAY sumisimbolo sa mga unang pamilya na
unang nanirahan sa barangay.
PUNO NG PAHO AT NIYOG ang puno ng Paho na sumisimbolo sa pook tagpuan
at hintayan ng unang pamilyang nanirahan sa barangay para mag bugta at ang
Puno ng Niyog na sumisimbolo sa isa sa pinag kakakitaan ng mga taong
naninirahan dito.
LUNTIANG KAPARANGAN na sumisimbolo sa matiwasay at mapayapang
pamumuhay ng mamamayan sa barangay.
Ang pagkilala ay ibinibigay sa mga nag-ambag para sa pagsasa-ayos ng opisyal
na sagisag (logo) ng barangay at ito ay ang mga sumusunod:

Logo.
G. EDWIN VILLASIN – Kasalukuyang Kagawad ng Barangay; nagpatupad.
G. RYAN PAUL C. MARQUEZ – Kalihim ng Barangay; huling nagsaayos ng
sagisag ng barangay (logo).
VISION
Isang Barangay na mayroong matatag na hanapbuhay,
mga mamamayan na may takot sa Diyos, may malusog at
masayang pamilya na namumuhay sa isang maunlad at
malinis na pamayanan.
MISSION
Mangunguna sa pagsasagawa ng mga programang
pangkabuhayan at pangkaunlaran, mga mamamayan na
nangangalaga sa likas na yaman at may paggalang sa
karapatan ng bawat isa tungo sa isang maunlad na
komunidad.
1. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
KASAYSAYAN NG BARANGAY PONON
Noon ang bayan ng Atimonan ay pinamamayanan lamang ng ilang ulo ng pamilya.
Bagama’t sila ay may sarili nang sibilisasyon at kultura na turo ng mga Kastila ay
masasabing sila ay talagang salat pa sa kaalaman. Bihira sa mga Pilipino noon ang
nakapag-aral. Noon ay wala pa ring transportasyon kaya wala ring maunlad na negosyo. Ang
mga tao noon ay walang ikinabubuhay maliban sa pagtatanim. Inakala nila na habang
panahon ay ganyan na lamang ang buhay. Noon ay salat sa karangyaan subalit sagana
naman kung pagkain ang pag-uusapan.
Ang mga barangay na sa ngayon ay bumubuo ng bayang Atimonan, noon ay gubat
pa. Walang may-ari at ang lahat ay malayang maaangkin upang bugtain. Ang bawat ulo ng
pamilya ay walang ibang ambisyon kundi magbugta ng gubat o magkaingin upang lumawak
ang kanilang taniman para sa kanilang mga anak.
May isang grupo na kinabibilangan ng sampung pamilya ang naghanap ng
magandang lugar na kanilang bubugtain. Nakakita naman agad sila at ang sampung ito ay
nagumpisang magbugta. Sa dako ng kanilang binubugta ay may isang malaking puno na
kung tawagin ay paho at ito ang ginawa nilang hintayan, kung may mahuhuling dumating
sapagkat sila kung hapon ay umuuwi sa bayan at kung umaga naman ay maagang
sumasaka sa kanilang kinakaingin. Umaga at hapon ay lumalakad sila ng mahigit na
sampung kilometro sapagkat noon ay wala pang sasakyan. Ganyan kahirap ang tiniis ng
ating mga ninuno. Lumipas ang maraming araw, lingo, buwan, at mga taon. Malawak na
ang kanilang nabubugta. Sapagkat sila ay marami na at malalaki na rin ang kanilang mga
anak ay minarapat nila na silang sampung pamilya ay doon na magtayo ng bahay sa paligid
ng malaking puno na naging palatandaan ng kanilang hintayan. Namalas sa mga ninuno
ang tornohan o mas kilala sa tawag na bayanihan, doon ay sama-samang nagtatrabaho ang
mga kalalakihan para sa sama samang pag-gawa. Tuwing may pagpupulong o sunog o may
nais na iparating ay gumagamit sila ng tambuli na yari sa sungay ng kalabaw at hinihipan
ito bilang hudyat ng pag titipon o mensahe. Buhat noon ang sampung pamilyang ito ay
maligaya at tahimik na namuhay sa paligid ng malaking puno hanggang sila ay dumami
nang dumami, umunlad ang lugar at naging isang pamayanan. Kapag mayroong
nagtatanong sa kanila,”saan ba kayo naninirahan pare?” Doon sa puno, ang kanilang sagot.
Ang lugar na ito ay tinawag na puno. PUNO ito ang orihinal ng kabansagang PONON.
2. PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Barangay Ponon is one of the inner barangays of Atimonan, located about 10 kilometers
away from town’s poblacion. This barangay is 5 kilometers away from National Highway
bounded on the north by Barangay Lakip, on the south by Barangay San Rafael, on the east by
Barangay Kulawit and on the west by Barangay San Jose Balatok.
It has a total land area of 800.6507 hectares per record of Municipal Assessors Office
composed of seven puroks- Purok I, Purok II, Purok III, Purok IV, Purok V, Purok VI and
Purok VII. Topography of the barangay is mostly mountainous. Almost 99 % of its land is
agricultural. Definitive data were specified below.

3. SOCIO-ECONOMIC SECTOR
RHU Survey of 2014, showed that Brgy. Ponon had a population of 1367 with a computed population growth rate of 0.34 %. There are more male than female with
distribution revealing 71.03% of the total population belong to ages 10 – 59 years old;
15.58% under 1 year old to 9 year old and 13.38% belonging to 60 years old and above. This shows that Brgy. Ponon has more working population than dependent population.
School going population (pre-school, elementary, secondary and college) is computed at 32% of the total population and the most common religion is Roman Catholic

99.66% or 797.9553 hectares area of the barangay is devoted to agriculture. Their
major crop is rice. The total irrigated area is 64 hectares. Some of the populace are leaned to
poultry production for additional source of income.
