As you embark on a new phase in your educational journey I would like to welcome you to Trinity Academy Sixth Form.Through our commitment to developing students both academic and personally I fi rmly believe that you will leave Trinity Academy as a more knowledgeable, employable and caring young adult ready for the rigors the world of work or further study. We will equip you with the skills and attributes that you need to contribute to society. The Christian ethos is embedded into all aspects of Academy life and we encourage all of our young people to live by the core values; honourable purpose, humility, compassion, integrity, courage, determination, and accountability.

Trinity Academy has a large Sixth Form, rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted, offering a wide range of courses and enrichment opportunities. To further our commitment to the young people of Doncaster I have invested in a new Sixth Form Centre that opened in September 2014. It is purely for our Sixth Form students, incorporating a new library, careers centre, dedicated Sixth Form teaching space and also two study areas including 80 personal computers.

Sixth Form at Trinity Academy strikes a balance between the structure and support provided by school and the independence offered to young people in higher education. We understand the amount of effort and commitment A Levels and other Level 3 courses demand so we provide the care, support and guidance students need at this critical stage in their lives.

Our Sixth Formers are recognised as the most senior students in the Academy and their maturity is refl ected in certain privileges they receive. In addition to the positions of Head Boy and Head Girl, they are invited to fulfi l a number of responsible roles within Academy life, including serving as Student Community Liaison Leader, Prefects and House Captains, mentoring younger students and supporting staff at public events. They wear a more business like uniform that is different from younger students’ and Sixth Form students have the freedom to spend lunch time off site, unlike the rest of the student body.

At Trinity Academy it is not all work. The Academy has a strong reputation for Duke of Edinburgh Awards, sport, performing and creative arts and Sixth Formers are encouraged to continue other interests alongside their academic studies, a balance sought by employers and universities. They have the chance to develop leadership skills through working with the RAF, to take part in team-building activities and being part of a growing leadership team. The enrichment programme offers students the chance to choose from a diverse range of activities ranging from drama, community service, work placements and Junior Academy support to sporting activities.

Finally, I would like to wish you every success in your studies and we hope to welcome you in Trinity Academy Sixth Form.

Principal’s Welcome

What Are We About?

Trinity Academy Sixth Form offers rigorous academic education coupled with engaging and inspiring extra –curricular activities. Our aim is to produce well rounded, highly educated young people ready to progress to the next stage in their future whether this may be university, apprenticeships or employment: the leaders of the future.

Our highly experienced teaching staff and state of the art facilities allow us to give you a wide choice of academic and vocational courses and enable you to choose the best path for your individual talents and capabilities.

Investing In The Future

With the newest facilities opening in the Doncaster area and a fantastic set of A Level and AS Level results, Trinity Academy Sixth Form students are reaping the rewards of continued investment in teaching and learning. Over 80% of the Sixth Form’s Year 13 students have been guaranteed a place at university, with many going on to study at Russell Group Universities such as, University of Cambridge, University of York, Imperial College London and Durham University. Several students have gone on to study Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, these places have been secured due to their excellent AS and A Level performance and their well rounded character and values.

In 2015 students celebrated a 99% pass rate and 45% of overall grades were grades A*-B. This represents the highest in Trinity Academy Sixth Form history and demonstrates the commitment of the teaching staff to push and develop our young people to achieve their personal best. Overall, the progress made by Trinity Academy Sixth Form students is outstanding, with the top performing subject areas of Applied Business Studies, Applied ICT, Art, Drama, Economics, English Literature and Applied Health and Social Care. A Level English Language and Literature (Combined) achieved results within the top 5% nationally. Trinity Academy Sixth Form is going from strength to strength in Level 3 Vocational subjects where students are also achieving a 100% pass rate and 83% of those students achieving grades Distinction or Distinction*.

Not only did the Year 13 students celebrate success but also there have been some fantastic results at AS Level. The students have performed well with 24% of students achieving grade A – B. For the second year in a row, the progress made at AS Level has led to Trinity Academy Sixth Form achieving outstanding results and being amongst the top 10% nationally at AS Level.

Mrs G Hirst, Director of Sixth Form said, ‘I would like to pass on my congratulations to all of our students. It is fantastic to see so many brilliant results, I have seen the hard work and dedication of the staff and students – these are just rewards for those efforts.’

Trinity Academy prides itself on the professionalism, experience and knowledge of all of our teaching staff. We have a highly specialised Sixth Form leadership team that is focussed upon each student achieving their full potential; this is supported by the personal tutor team. Each student is placed in a tutor group which meets twice daily. The tutor closely monitors the progress of each student and provides guidance, help and support whenever necessary. This gives you the opportunity to discuss any issues, both academic and personal. Guidance and support is given to those seeking a place at university or college as well as those seeking employment.

University Guidance

Each year guest speakers are invited into the Academy to advise both students and parents about the next step in your education journey. Speakers range from Student Finance, University of Nottingham, University of Oxford and University of Cambridge. We also offer a dedicated evening to parents on the university application process and student fi nance.

University Success

Here at Trinity Academy Sixth Form we have a large alumnus of students who have studied and succeeded at university and we are delighted with their achievements. In 2015, 100% of students who applied to university gained a fi nal place, with a high proportion of those gaining their fi rst choice.

At Trinity Academy we view the Sixth Form students as ambassadors and leaders of the whole Academy therefore we have a Head Boy/Head Girl, Student Community Liaison Leader, House Captains and Prefects. These students are nominated by teaching staff and students during Year 12 and complete the majority of their duties during Year 13. The leadership team also receive training from the Outreach team of the RAF, further developing their leadership and communication skills.

Enrichment

As part of your Sixth Form experience, all students are expected to work towards the Trinity Academy Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) Award. This involves you participating in a range of activities alongside your academic studies. The three strands of the award are intended to enhance your potential and interpersonal development through experiential learning. In order to be eligible for the award you must complete 150 hours spread evenly across the three strands of activity over the two years that you spend in Sixth Form.

You will also have the opportunity to give something back to your local community. You may be able to partake in voluntary work, such as visiting the elderly or those in need. You could also assist with charity work and fundraising for the Academy’s three nominated charities, Bluebell Wood Hospice, Cancer Research UK and Cambodia Action.

All Year 12 students complete one week’s work experience at the end of the academic year so you get to experience your chosen career and also you will have some additional skills to add to your personal statement.

Trinity Academy has strong history in completing the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Gold Award with expeditions taking place throughout the year. Alongside this many students take part in the Three Peaks Challenge and the National Challenge.

Applied A Level

These subjects offer an attractive alternative to the traditional academic A Level. Learning is mainly assessed by way of case studies and reports, although there are also written examinations.

The range of vocational and organisational skills the student develops from a Vocational A Level course is highly prized by universities.

Trinity Academy offers a twelve-unit course, equivalent to two A Levels, and a six-unit course, equivalent to one A Level, in the following subject:

• Health and Social Care (Single and Double Award)

• ICT (Single Award)

BTEC Level Three Diploma

These courses offer an alternative to traditional academic A Levels and Applied A Levels. Learning is assessed through case studies and reports; assessment is one hundred per cent coursework. The BTEC Level Three Diploma is equivalent to two A Levels and is a twelve-unit course and the Subsidiary Diploma is equivalent to one A Level and is a six-unit course. These courses are offered in the following subjects:

• Business (BTEC Level Three National Subsidiary Diploma)

• Sport Performance and Excellence (BTEC Level Three National Diploma and Subsidiary Diploma)

Your Flight Path

At Trinity Academy Sixth Form we ensure that all students achieve their personal best. In order to do this we create individual fl ight paths, to show each student how they should progress from GCSE’s to A Level. The table below shows theexpected A Level grades based upon the GCSE grade profi le (excluding BTECs). All the targets are set at the start of Year 12, however we encourage students to view these as targets to exceed not barriers to continuous progress.

All the A Level and Applied A Level subjects offered at Trinity Academy Sixth Form are a two year A Level course . This is to ensure that students leave with best opportunities for Higher Education as the Russell Group mainly base offers on a three grade profi le rather than a combination of UCAS points or AS Level subjects.
