Anna’s trail runs through hilly

grounds between torrential

Dobrnica and the river Hudinja

flowing from Vitanje. There are

no joint settlements only

groups of houses or individual

farms situated between

orchards and vineyards. Here

you will meet the locals who

can tell you a great deal about

the way of life in this part of

Dobrna Municipality.

Dobrna paths are an excellent combination of relaxedwalking on the flat and hilly terrain with numerousnatural as well as cultural features.

3. MANSION DOBRNICA –GUTENEKThe mansion formerly calledGutenek and built already in the17th century, is a simple, but

6. DRENOVECThrough rock overhangs and thewaterfall Drenovec the streamflows into Dobrnica. The area isrich in numerous fungus species!

10. ST. NICHOLAS CHURCHThe most beautiful cultural andartistic monument in Dobrna’ssurroundings originating from lategothic period. The church, whichsurvived Turkish invasions andProtestantism, was firstmentioned in 1567. However,experts estimate it is much olderand place it at the very beginningof the 16th century. Outside on thesouth facing wall we are surprisedby the in-built headstone relief ofa Roman soldier, of the secondItalic legion, Aurelio Victor formthe 3rd century.

7. BLACKSMITH’S WORKSHOPAT MARO[EK FARMAt Maro{ek farm you can see theblacksmith’s workshop,approximately 50 years old, whichwas used for domestic needs onlyand mostly for maintenance andrepairing rural tools.

L – LOKA PATH

Loka path leads from the centre

through the spa resort via the

road to Klanc on the top of

which there are vineyards. The

path climbs to the settlement

Loka pri Dobrni.

The Loka valley is really special

with its Karst features such as

terra rossa, sinkholes,

underground streams and even

a Karst cave, called

Osre~anova Zvonica.

A part of the path is the valley

of mills since there are 300

year-old mills along the route-

Gregor Mill, Petra~ Mill,

Sedjev{ek Mill, and two Vovk

Mills. Following the path, from

the distance you can see the

ruins of the Ka~nik Castle and

you can pass the three ponds

to come to the Castle of Novi

Grad in Lokovina. Here you turn

left and you finish the round

tour. Now you are again

located in the centre.

4. THE VALLEY OF MILLSThe streams’ hinterland beneathPa{ki Kozjak has always hadmillers, blacksmiths and sawmills.Miller and sawmill’s tradedeveloped alongside streamswhich provided enough waterpower for their functioning. Theywere in use until the night of 5th

June, 1954, when there was a hugestorm. The waters of the Hudinja,

5. KNEIPP’S POOLKneipp’s pool was made in 1995.To walkers on Loka path itprovides a refreshing kneippingin natural environment, of courseat one’s own risk.

7. DEER ENCLOSING -LAMPER^EK FARMOn 12 hectares of enclosedgrounds (6 hectares of forest, 6hectares of meadows) there arereal deer (red), fallow deer andmoufflons altogetherapproximately 160 deer. Visitsshould be announced in advance.

9. THE SNAKE CASTLEFrom the castle’s ruins and withthe help of vivid imagination wecan picture ourselves the way oflife in the castle, which used to bethe centre of Dobrna’s nobility forcenturies. It was built before theyear 1257 on the top of a hill abovethe settlement Lokovina. It is alsocalled Ka~nik after its formerowner Sir Matija Ga~nik (alsoinformally Ka~nik), who lived therein the 17th century.

6. THE UPPER VOVK MILLThe Vovk Mill is situated northfrom residential building(Lokovina 36). It lies on the rightbank of the stream calledTemnja{ki vrelec. It isapproximately 450 years old. Thelocals used to call it the castle millsince it was also used for theneeds of the nobility from thenearest Snake Castle.The mill was in operation until1990 when a flood devastated itand destroyed the outer wheel.Its equipment is preserved, but itneeds restoring and protectingfrom further decaying.The owners of the mill will behappy to show you the interiorwhere you can get the mountainstamp. Visits should beannounced in advance.

12. NOVI GRADThe mansion - the castle NoviGrad, formerly Neuhaus has a richhistory. The owner Franc KsaverDienersberg had a castle built onthe plain below the Snake Castle.In the second half of the 19th

The Daje valley is one of the

most beautiful plains of Pa{ki

Kozjak to which you reach via

the road leading through Brdce

to Pa{ki Kozjak. Along the road

and rocky edges there is daphne

blooming in spring, St. John’s

wort, blackberries and

raspberries in July and August.

Towards autumn the edges are

red with red berries of bushy

mountain ash. From here there

is a beautiful view of Ostrica

and the highest ridge of Pa{ki

The main summits of Pa{ki

Kozjak, around 10 km of long

narrow and extremely steep

lime mountain chain, are a

known view: [pik – 1109m, the

highest summit Basali{~e 1272m

and [trukljev Vrh (1227m) the

highest summit of Dobrna

Municipality. The mountain hut

on Pa{ki Kozjak is open from

Tuesday to Sunday, from 9.00

AM to 9.00 PM, Mondays are

closed.

Waymarked mountain route leadsfrom Dobrna centre past the hotelVita in the direction of the spa,following the road to the slopeover Klanc to “@eblar Chapel” atthe top of Klanc.A signpost warns us about theturning to Loka, however, we gostraight on. The steep path turnsleft into a hilly forest andcontinues on a cart track. The roadleads us past the Hunting Lodgeto Jurk farm from where, to the

right there is a well waymarkeduphill [ale{ka mountain trail andto the left the trail of the XIVDivision.The XIV Division trail leadsupwards to the left along the carttrack. From a pine forest you cometo a meadow and head towardsthe summit where there is abeautiful view of Velenje lake,mountains of Mozirje and the Alps(Savinjske alpe) in thebackground. The grassy plainahead of you is called Visoko. Youcontinue your journey down the

meadow towards the mountainhut on Pa{ki Kozjak.[ale{ka mountain trail winds tothe right of Jurk onto a steep hillof stony terrain which leadstowards the mountain hut, whereyou can sign in your name and geta stamp.Both trails are joint at thecrossroads with the road toVelenje near the mountain hut.From the mountain hut onwardsthere is an uphill path leading toSt. Jo{t church on Pa{ki Kozjakand to [pik (1109m) on the left.[pik, where you can also get astamp, offers you a magnificentview of mountains of Mozirje,Raduha, Peca, Ur{lja gora and theAlps (Savinjske alpe).It takes three hours from Dobrnato the hut on Pa{ki Kozjak andadditional half an hour to thesummit of [pik.
