TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION How did the church dealt with “daily sins” in the first five cen-turies? As devout and observant as they were, our early fathers and mothers in faith could not have been all that differ-ent from us. Maybe they looked the other way when the grocer threw an extra fig in the shopping basket, or had a wander-ing eye for the widow next door, or had a taste for

too much ale, or didn’t let the truth get in the way of a good story. First of all, there was the Eucharist. The words are familiar: “This is the cup of my blood, poured out for the forgiveness of sin.” Especially by participating in Communion from the cup, for-giveness was achieved. Eucharist was, and remains, the sacrament of reconciliation par excellence, the sign and source of unity with Christ. There were other helps along the way: “fraternal” correction, or the course corrections we offer one another in love, prayer, fasting, works of mercy. St. Augustine listed endurance of suffering, forgiveness of insults, and added the praying of the Lord’s Prayer in the liturgy. He felt that the public praying of the Our Father on Sunday and its daily use in private prayer was an essential remedy and the reason why everyone was not a candidate for canonical pen-ance. Inherited from Augustine’s practice, the Lord’s Prayer in our Communion Rite still has the same pur-pose, preparing us for receiving and becoming the Body of Christ. —Rev. James Field,

World Mission Sunday 2015

Next weekend our parish will celebrate the World Mission Sunday . This year we are invited to reach out to help support pastoral and evangelizing programs, catechists and catechetical work, the building of churches and chapels, the work of Religious Communities in health care and education, and communication and transportation needs in Africa, Asia, and remote parts of South America. The fund is distributed in its entirety each year to ensure that the poor of the Missions in these areas receive help and the hope that comes from knowing the love of Jesus Christ. Please keep the Missions in your daily prayers.

There will be a second collection for this Mission Appeal on October 17-18 in all masses. The envelopes will be at the pews and on the shelves throughout the church.



God’s Plan for Marriage is Beautiful

Come and listen to the promises that God has for you. Prepare for a Christian Marriage within the Catholic Church. This course is for those who are engaged to be married, seriously dating, wanting to have

their Marriage, blessed in the Church, or those who are looking for an answer to the vocation of marriage.

The Word of God is used throughout a series of 10 meet-ings to introduce the plan of God for marriage. Reconcili-ation and forgiveness, the holiness of the sexual act in marriage, the education of children, and the family as a light to the world are some of the aspects presented.

CHUỖI MÂN CÔI Suy Niệm Con người hôm nay mệt mỏi, lo âu, căng thẳng, vội vã. Chuỗi Mân Côi làm lòng ta lắng xuống, thanh thản bình an để chiêm ngắm cuộc đời Chúa Giêsu và ca ngợi Mẹ.

Kính Mừng Maria đầy ơn phúc. Mẹ đầy ơn phúc vì được Thiên Chúa đặcbiệt yêu thương. Tình thương Chúa chở che Mẹ ngay từ lúc chưa chào đời,và tình thương ấy còn bao bọc Mẹ mãi mãi. Mẹ được tuyển chọn làm Mẹ Ðấng Cứu Thế, nên Mẹ được giữ gìn khỏi vết nhơ nguyên tội. Chúng ta được dự phần vào niềm vui và ân phúc của Mẹ vì chúng ta cũng được Thiên Chúa tuyển chọn, yêu thương được tẩy xóa nguyên tội để trở nên thụ tạo mới. Ðức Chúa Trời ở cùng Bà. Trong Cựu Ước, có bao người được Thiên Chúa ở cùng, để rồi đượcNgài sai đi phục vụ Dân Chúa. Nhưng Thiên Chúa ở cùng Mẹ một cách độc nhất vô nhị. Bà có phúc lạ hơn mọi người nữ. Ðó là lời bà Êlisabét ca ngợi Mẹ (Lc1:42) vì chỉ mình Mẹ được diễm phúc sinh hạ Ðấng Mêsia. Mẹ đã cưu mang Người và cho Người bú mớm. Nhưng sau đó bà Êlisabét còn ca ngợi Mẹ có phúcvì đã tin Chúa sẽ thực hiện điều Ngài nói với Mẹ. Tin là dám buông đời mình trong tay Chúa và để Ngài dẫn đi trong đêm tối của lòng tin. Mọi tín hữu đều được mời sống hành trình đức tin như Mẹ, để được cùng Mẹ chung hưởng hạnh phúc: "Phúc cho ai không thấy mà tin" (Ga 20, 29) Thánh Maria, Ðức Mẹ Chúa Trời. Chỉ Thiên Chúa là Ðấng Thánh và là nguồn mọi sự thánh thiện. Mẹ được chia sẻ sự thánh thiện ấy cách tuyệt vời, vì Mẹ được chọn làm Mẹ Ðức Giêsu, Mẹ Thiên Chúa, và vì chẳng ai thực thi ý Chúa trọn vẹn như Mẹ.

Gợi Ý Chia Sẻ Bạn có khi nào lần chuỗi không? Bạn có biết lần chuỗi không? Bạn có thấy lần chuỗi là một cách cầu nguyện nhẹ nhàng và lắng đọng không? Bạn nghĩ gì về Ðức Mẹ? Ðức Mẹ có phải là Ðấng ở trên cao và xa lạ với bạn, hay là Ðấng rất gần bạn

trong cuộc sống đức tin? Cầu Nguyện Lạy Mẹ Maria, khi đọc Phúc Âm, lúc nào chúng con cũng thấy Mẹ lên đường. Mẹ đi giúp bà Isave, rồi đi Bêlem sinh Ðức Giêsu. Mẹ đưa con đi trốn, rồi dâng Con trong đền thờ. Mẹ tìm con bị lạc và đi dự tiệc cưới ở Cana. Mẹ đi thăm Ðức

Giêsu khi Ngài đang rao giảng. Và cuối cùng Mẹ đã theo Ngài đến tận Núi Sọ. Mẹ lên đường để đáp lại một tiếng gọi âm thầm hay rõ ràng, từ ngoài hay từ trong, từ con người hay từ Thiên Chúa. Chúng con thấy Mẹ luôn đi với Ðức Giêsu trong mọi bước đường của cuộc sống. Chẳng phải con đường nào cũng là thảm hoa. Có những con đường đầy máu và nước mắt.

Xin Mẹ dạy chúng con đừng sợ lên đường mỗi ngày, đừng sợ đáp lại những tiếng gọi mới của Chúa dù phải chấp nhận đoạn tuyệt chia ly. Xin giữ chúng con luôn đi trên Ðường-Giêsu để chúng con trở thành nẻo đường khiêm hạ đưa con người hôm nay đến gặp gỡ Thiên Chúa.

LOS DISCÍPULOS Y LA RIQUEZA A veces creemos que tener riquezas materiales es algo malo. Nos convencemos a nosotros mismos que los pobres son los más favorecidos. En las lectu-ras de hoy, descubrimos que las riquezas materiales no son lo único que nos impide ser discípulos. Ya ve-remos que hay otros dones más importantes que esas riquezas. Pero así todo, lo que más importa es el uso que hacemos de nuestros dones. Las Escrituras de hoy señalan el valor de los do-nes de la sabiduría, la confianza en Dios y una cuali-dad que permite que nuestras acciones reflejen el amor de Dios que llevamos en nuestro interior. No es el oro lo que nos hace tropezar, sino el desear el oro por encima de todo lo demás. En las lecturas de la Sabiduría y Hebreos, descubrimos la fuente de los dones de Dios en nuestra vida. La sabiduría vale mu-cho más que las posesiones materiales. En Hebreos, se nos motiva a examinar nuestros valores y a reco-nocer con honestidad qué es lo que rige nuestra vida.
