MAMBALAM TIMES: Ashok Nagar - K.K.Nagar Edition

NO HOLDS BARREDBy M.A. SADANAND

MY LORD, ME LUD, ME LUD .... My morning coffee got a boost in its strength today when

the “Times of India” told methat two judges of the SupremeCourt had virtually proscribed the sickeningadulatoryanthem “MY LORD” and “YOUR LORDSHIP”spouted by the supplicant lawyers. This is the first time,I suppose, any judge in any High Court or Supreme Courthas shushed the mendicant lawyerexcept, of course JusticeK. Chandru of our High Courtwho, apart from beingallergic to the colonial usage, utilised the time involved inunravelling the nuances of the glossy touch, disgusted bythe creepy crawly mendicancy of the robed gentry beforehim. That Lordly negation of fripperies gave Chandruenough time to do justicein about 9000 cases during his 7years without being pelted with the disgustingcolonialadditive. I hold him in high esteem because he is aperson grounded to the solid earthjust like one of us and wasnot a fake God .

During my long innings as a practitioner in the HighCourt, I was disgusted to hear the alleged leaders of the Barspouting this nauseating word. Perhaps, in that halfcentury, I myself had used the invocatory wordunconsciously a dozen times at the beginning of my career.Perhaps the two judges of the Supreme court who deridedthe use of the LORDLY invocation had heard about me andJustice Chandru. Better late than never, what ?

TNEB shut down power in Motilal Street withoutintimation

Sir, - On Jan. 8, at around 5.45 p.m., there was a sudden outageof power in three residential apartments in Motilal Street, TNagar.

It was observed by the residents that the power was switchedoff by EB staff to connect a power cable coming from an upcomingcommercial complex nearby to the junction box supplying currentto the three apartments.

Power was restored after almost two hours. It is surprising thatno prior intimation was given. When a resident accosted an EBofficial about it, he said that they were just following orders of theirsuperiors.

Considering that the work is still under progress in the commer-cial complex, and it may take many more months before itbecomes functional, what was the hurry to do the power connec-tion during the late hours of the day? It could have been doneduring daytime as well.

I request TNEB to give prior notice to the residents about poweroutage in the future before carrying out any major work – V. S.Jayaraman, Secretary, Motilal Street Residents’ WelfareAssociation, 31, Motilal Street, T. Nagar

Badly coordinated Aadhar data collectioninconveniences residents

Sir, I want to obtain Aadhar card for my family. My apartmenton 7th Avenue, Ashok Nagar, was missed out in the census in 2010and I do not have the receipt.

When the camp started in September last year and since I didnot have the receipt, I was told by an official to fill and submit acensus form to be procured from Corporation Zone 10 office(Ambedkar Road). The form was not available in the Zone 10 officeand could I get it from anywhere else. After recently reading apress release about the availability of forms and registering ofbiometric data, I went again to the office on Jan. 28. The staff thistime told me to come later as the concerned staff who did thebiometric photo work were on strike. There was a large crowd andthe officials were struggling to manage it. Why is the work notbeing coordinated or streamlined before making public announce-ments? With Aadhaar card to be made mandatory, they can askresidents to fill up the form with copies of relevant documents andgive appointments for collecting biometric data. I request theconcerned authorities to make proper arrangements in its officesin the city before making public announcements to avoid residentsfrom being hassled. – Thiagarajan, 85, 7th Avenue, AshokNagar
