The VBrick Enterprise Media System is composed of core functionality with optional modules.

Core Functionality

The heart of the VBrick Enterprise Media System (VEMS) is its Video Portal. This viewing portal provides an extremely easy way to access live and on-demand video from any PC or VBrick Set Top Box. Viewers use DVD-like controls to fast forward, rewind, pause, and display videos in full screen. They can even view multiple video windows at the same time. In addition, VBrick’s Viewing Portal enables users to take complete control of the content with playlists and bookmarks.

VBrick’s Encoding appliances employ state-of-the-art IP Video networking protocols for delivering IP Video with minimal bandwidth utilization. If your network doesn’t support these protocols or you want to stream IP Video over your Wide Area Network, then VEMS accomplishes this via its Intelligent Video Networking Engine. VEMS intelligently routes users to the best location to receive live and on-demand content, while eliminat-ing bandwidth concerns. Combined with VBrick Reflector appliances at the network edge, this creates the most scalable and manageable video networking platform in the industry.

There are three tiers of core VEMS functionality, which are largely based on the number of locations to which video will be delivered, as well as the ability to utilize the VEMS Distribution Servers (see Table A for a description of the product tiers).

VEMS Channel Guide

The VEMS Channel Guide is designed to make your IP network feel like television, not just another web video. This is accomplished by integrating real-time television program information and the IP Video stream into the VEMS Viewing Portal.

The Channel Guide provides all of the program information you need, including program time, name and description for hundreds of national, local, and international TV channels. You can also create your own IP Video television channels with custom program listings, giving it broad-cast television feel and functionality.

When deployed with the VEMS Scheduler module, the Channel Guide also provides personal video-like functionality to record programs with the click of a mouse.

VEMS Presenter

VEMS Presenter allows organizations to deliver online presentations, webcasts, and webinars based on synchronized video with PowerPoint slides. The Presenter capability leverages the VEMS Intelligent Video Networking Engine so end-users are assured of a perfect experience, with little bandwidth impact on the network. The VEMS Presenter is also tightly integrated with the Access Control functionality of the Portal, assuring that only authorized personnel view the presentation.

VEMS Distribution Server

For organizations delivering large scale webcasts to thousands or tens of thousands of viewers, the VEMS Distribution servers can be used to distribute the load on the Portal Server to maintain maximum perfor mance.

VEMS Scheduler schedules events to and from any VBrick component in the Enterprise IP Video platform. This includes live video from VBrick Appliances, stored video from VBrick’s Video-On-Demand Servers, recordings on VBrick Appliances or Network Video Recorder, and even conferences between two VBrick Encoder/Decoder Appliances.

Whether it’s to assure all viewers tune into a scheduled or priority broadcast, or to automate an entire semester of classroom recordings, the VEMS Scheduler provides all the tools you need. Manage your schedules with an intuitive calendar-based interface – as easy as scheduling a meeting.

VEMS Network Video Recorder (NVR)

VBrick’s Network Video Recorder provides high-capacity recording of IP Video streams directly from the network. Offered in configurations to support 10 or 40 simultaneous streams per server, the NVR provides all the additional recording capacity you require. You can also cluster NVR servers for unlimited recording capabilities.

The NVR is easy to use because there is no additional workflow. Just schedule or start an ad-hoc recording and the VEMS will find an available recording slot and start the recording. The VEMS software is so flexible that the recorded files are seamlessly transferred to all the on-demand servers.
