Leadership

We don’t invest enough time in beingleaders

Warren Buffet spends 80% of his dayreading, and the rest meeting with

friends and business partners

“If you count all the time I’m focused on our mission, that’s basically my whole life, (...) I spend most of my

time thinking about how to connect the world and serve our community better, but a lot of that time isn’t

in our office or meeting with people or doing whatyou’d call real work, (...) I take a lot of time just to read

and think about things by myself.”

- Mark ZuckerbergChairman and CEO, Facebook

“Do something you are passionate about, do something youlove, (...) If you are doing something you are passionate

about, you are just naturally going to succeed, and a lot of other things will happen that you don’t need to worry about.

There are so many opportunities and choices anyone canmake about what they do. Do something you are passionate

about. Life is too short.”

General Motors CEO Mary Barra

Leadership is like opinions…

…everyone’s got their own.

My leadership principles

It’s better to own 5% of something than50% of nothing.

And that goes for ideas as well as businesses.

Taking people out of their comfort zone is a bad idea. Take them to the edge of

their comfort zone and then invite themto take one more step.

Nothing great ever came out of a committee

Spend less time doing, and more time thinking, creating and reading.

Do you really need all those reports? Do we need a presentation or will three bullet points do?

Standing and walking meetings

Stop being connected and unproductive.

You need nature and play, not screens to have our best ideas and do our best

work.

You make 35 000 decisions every day, but you can only make 10 really good

ones.

Obama made decisions with one word: Agree, Disagree, Discuss

Genius and creativity emerges from the friction between different disciplines

What are yourleadership principles?

What is preventing youfrom being the leader

you want to be?

Organisational Effectiveness

Vertical organisations are broken.

How many layers do you have?

Things we do better than anyone else

Other things we do

What is your core competence and how do you leverage it?

What does yourorganisation stand for?

A Participatory Action

A call to action that everyone can take part in (low to no barriers to entry)

Ask for voice, rather than money

Make it easy for people to share their “contributions”.

Create social community that combines permission and pressure.

What participatoryaction could you createto get others to stand

with you?
