In preparing for the feast of St. Matthew, the parish picnic and the 40th anniversary

celebration, we will have a sign-up tree in the narthex beginning September 7th. The

sign-up tree is for signing up for a side to bring to the parish picnic. Please pick one after the masses beginning next weekend.

Being a Steward Stewardship should be a part of the Christian DNA. No mother gets up in the morning saying: “I think I’ll volunteer to be a mother today.” No, motherhood is part of her DNA. In a similar manner, living the way of a good steward should be at the heart and center of every disciple’s life. Our baptism calls us to be good stewards of God’s blessings. I urge each and every one of you (and my-self) to continue to reflect on the rich bibli-cal essence of Christian stewardship. Let us keep asking ourselves:

1. What speaks to us most in the above article?

2. What challenges us most?

3. To what extent do we embrace the Christian truth/belief that all of life is gift and that we own nothing? Our job is to manage well God’s blessings and use them responsibly to bless the lives of others.

4. To what extent do we believe that a stewardship ap-proach to life leads to a true and lasting happiness?

Prayer to radiate Christ. Ideally, we should seek to be good stewards of God’s blessings all the time and not just when we volunteer. Each day allows us to be good stewards in our homes, when on the phone, emailing, texting, talking to others, at the store, at work or recreation, dining, etc. Ideally, we should seek to be Christ-like at every moment of every day and at every place. To help us to be like Christ, we could often say the following prayer.

Jesus, help me to spread your fragrance everywhere I go today. Flood my soul with your spirit and life. Penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly that all my life may only be a radiance of yours. Shine through me and be so in me that every soul I come in contact with may feel your presence in my soul. Let them look up and see no longer me, but only Jesus! Amen. - Blessed John Henry Newman

STEWARDSHIP CORRESPONSABILIDAD

Tener Corresponsabilidad La coresponsabilidad debería ser parte del ADN

Cristiano. Ninguna madre se levanta por la mañana y dice: "Creo que ser voluntaria para ser madre hoy". No, la maternidad es parte de su ADN. En una línea similar, vivir el ca-mino de un buen administrador debe estar en el corazón y el centro de la vida de cada discípulo. Nuestro bautismo nos llama a ser buenos administradores de las bendiciones de Dios. Insto a todos y cada uno de ustedes (y a mí mismo) a continuar reflexionando sobre la rica esencia bíblica de la mayordo-mía cristiana. Sigamos preguntándonos:

1. ¿Qué nos habla más en el artículo anterior?

2. ¿Qué nos desafía más?

3. ¿Hasta qué punto aceptamos la verdad / creencia cristia-na de que toda la vida es un regalo y que no poseemos na-da? Nuestro trabajo es administrar debido a las bendiciones de Dios y usarlas de manera responsable para bendecir la vida de los demás.

Venimos al banquete de bodas del cielo a través de la humildad y la caridad. Esta es la instrucción paternal que escuchamos en la primera lectura de hoy, y el mensaje del Evan-gelio de hoy.

Jesús no solo está hablando de buenos modales en la mesa. Está revelando el camino del reino, en el que el que sería el más grande sería el servidor de todos (véase Lu-cas 22: 24–27).

Esta es también la forma en que el Padre nos ha mostrado a través de los siglos: llenando a los hambrientos, enviando a los ricos lejos vacíos, levantando a los humildes, derribando a los orgullosos (ver Lucas 1: 52–53).

Nuevamente recordamos el Éxodo en el Salmo de hoy: cómo en su bondad el Señor condujo a los israelitas del encarce-lamiento a la prosperidad, hizo llover pan del cielo, los hizo su herencia, convirtiéndose en un "Padre de huérfanos".

Ahora también hemos ganado una parte de su herencia. Debemos vivir humildemente, sabiendo que no somos dignos de recibir de Su mesa (ver Lucas 6: 7; 15:21). Debe-mos dar limosna, recordando que fuimos rescatados del pe-cado por el precio de su sangre (ver 1 Corintios 6: 19-20).

El Señor promete que si somos humildes seremos exaltados y encontraremos el favor de Dios; que si somos amables con aquellos que nunca pueden pagarnos, expiaremos los pe-cados y encontraremos bendiciones en la resurrección de los justos.

Anticipamos el cumplimiento de esas promesas en cada Eu-caristía, nos dice la Epístola de hoy. En la misa, entramos en la reunión festiva de los ángeles y los primogénitos de Dios. Es la liturgia de la Jerusalén celestial en la que Jesús es el sumo sacerdote, el Rey, que nos llama a subir (véase Proverbios 25: 6–7).

We come to the wedding banquet of heaven by way of humility and charity. This is the fatherly instruction we hear in today’s First Reading, and the message of today’s Gospel.

Jesus is not talking simply about good table manners. He is revealing the way of the kingdom, in which the one who would be greatest would be the servant of all (see Luke 22:24–27).

This is the way, too, that the Father has shown us down through the ages—filling the hungry, sending the rich away empty, lifting up the lowly, pulling down the proud (see Luke 1:52–53).

We again call to mind the Exodus in today’s Psalm—how in His goodness the Lord led the Israelites from imprisonment to prosperity, rained down bread from heaven, made them His inheritance, becoming a “Father of orphans.”

We now have also gained a share of His inheritance. We are to live humbly, knowing we are not worthy to receive from His table (see Luke 6:7; 15:21). We are to give alms, remembering we were ransomed from sin by the price of His blood (see 1 Corinthians 6:19–20).

The Lord promises that if we are humble we will be exalted and find favor with God; that if we are kind to those who can never repay us, we will atone for sins and find blessing in the resurrection of the righteous.

We anticipate the fulfillment of those promises in every Eucharist, today’s Epistle tells us. In the Mass, we enter the festal gathering of the angels and the firstborn children of God. It is the liturgy of the heavenly Jerusalem in which Jesus is the high priest, the King who calls us to come up higher (see Proverbs 25:6–7).
