Why did you join the Knights of Colum-bus? I joined the Knights of Columbus be-cause I wanted to be part of a like-minded Catholic men’s organization. I knew that the Knights were a charita-ble organization and did community work and I was seeking to be part of that in the church. What kind of activities or events do the Knights carry out in the council? We serve our Parish and other ministries along with the local community by offering our time and talent to differ-ent organizations. Why did you feel it was necessary to start a ministry for young families? I sometimes feel like when I sit at Mass, that my family and I are the only young people in this sea of grandparents. There are activities in the church for school age children and teens and for those over, but the 18-49 age range lacks any ministries. I wanted to see the young people and families come alive in the parish and have an opportunity to meet other people in the same stages of life. What is the mission of the ministry? The ministry offers an opportunity for young families with school age children or younger to join together for fun, fellowship and faith. ¿Por que to sentiste que era necesario comenzar un ministerio para las familias jóvenes? Algunas veces siento cuando estoy en la Misa, que mi familia es la unica familia joven en un océano de abuelitos. Hay actividades en la parroquia para niños de edad escolar y para los jóvenes y los ma-yores de 50, pero no hay ministerios para los de edades entre 18 y 49 anos. Yo quería ver a las familias jóvenes cobrar vida en la parroquia y te-ner la oportunidad de conocer a otras personas

en las mismas etapas de la vida. ¿Cuál es la misión del ministerio? El ministerio ofrece una oportunidad a las familias jóvenes con niños de edad escolar y mas chicos a juntarse para pa-sar el tiempo juntos con diversión y fe. ADVENT

With today’s Feast of Christ

the King, the liturgical year closes its

pages to begin a new year with the

season of Advent. The word Advent

comes from the Latin word meaning

“coming”, and the season is meant to

prepare us for the coming of the Lord, for His arrival.

During this time, the Church changes its color

from green to purple, which is the color of penance.

This is to remind us that we must clean our heart to

make way for the Lord and receive His many bless-

ings. On the third Sunday, you will see the color rose

represented in the Church to symbolize the joy we will

experience with coming of Jesus. On the fourth Sun-

day the Church returns to the color purple leading us

into the Christmas celebration.

To help prepare us and our children for the

birth of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, there are many activi-

ties you can do at home. Here are some ideas:

Create an Advent Wreath with candles. Light the

appropriate candle during dinner time, followed

by prayer.

Make an Advent Calendar so the children can

count down the days until Christmas

Make Advent Saint Ornaments to hang on your

Christmas Tree.

Make a peg doll Nativity set.

Create a Jesse Tree

Celebrate the Feast of St. Nicholas

Gifts for the Christ

Child—draw family names

out of a hat and that per-

son becomes your “secret

friend” for advent. Do spe-

cial things for that person

during Advent.

Con la fiesta de Cristo Rey de

hoy, el año litúrgico cierra sus páginas

para comenzar un nuevo año con la

temporada de Adviento. La palabra Ad-

viento proviene de la palabra latina que

significa "venida", y la temporada está

destinada a prepararnos para la venida del Señor, para

su llegada.

Durante este tiempo, la Iglesia cambia su color

de verde a púrpura, que es el color de la penitencia. Es-

to es para recordarnos que debemos limpiar nuestro

corazón para dar paso al Señor y recibir Sus muchas

bendiciones. El tercer domingo, verá el color rosa el cual

simboliza la alegría que sentimos al venir de Jesús. El

cuarto domingo, la Iglesia vuelve al color púrpura que

nos lleva a la celebración de Navidad.

Para ayudarnos a prepararnos y a nuestros hijos

para el nacimiento de Nuestro Señor, Jesucristo, hay

muchas actividades que se pueden hacer en casa. Aquí

hay algunas ideas:

Crea una corona de Adviento con velas. Enciende la

vela adecuada durante la hora de la cena, seguido

por la oración.

Haga un Calendario de Adviento para que los niños

puedan contar los días hasta la Navidad

Haga adornos de los Santos del tiempo de Adviento

para colgar en su árbol de Navidad.

Haga figuras de palitos para utilizar como el Naci-

miento.

Crea un árbol Jesse

Celebre la fiesta de San Nicolás

Regalos para el Niño Jesús: escriba los nombres de

las personas en su hogar. Escoja un nombre al azar y

esa persona se convierte en su “amigo secreto”.

Haga cosas especiales para esa persona durante el

tiempo de Adviento.
