Self Defense Classes Going StrongThe Kroc Center first started offering self defense classes this past winter taught specifically for women by Bobby Brumfield, Founder and Managing Partner of Leonum Advisors, and Kim Carpenter with the Domestic Violence Council. The classes have been going strong and this summer they have expanded to include the new Protecting Kidz class for kid’s ages 8-18 and the new Self-Defense for Men and Women class.

The Protecting Kidz class will address conflicts with adults and peers and touch on bullying. The Self-Defense for Men’s & Women’s class is a four-week class that focuses on how to prevent incidents and escape if attacked and includes training in real life scenarios to help you spot danger and avoid dangerous situations.

Women’s Self Defense Introduction will continue with free class-es once a month through August with a Creating Safety: Sexual Assault Prevention class that runs prior to the Self Defense Class, 6:00-7:30pm. The first session of the new Protecting Kidz class starts May 10th through May 31 and is Noon to 1pm, the new session of the Men’s and Women’s Self Defense class starts on May 10th and runs each Saturday until May 31st from 1-2:30pm.

Without important partnerships, classes like these wouldn’t happen at the Omaha Kroc Center and we are very appreciative of the support we receive through our community partners and the dedication they show by volunteering their time.

“I feel that safety and se-curity awareness and training are too often inaccessible to those most at risk primarily due to cost. We use our business relationships to provide this training to communities at no cost not only because it’s the right thing to do but volun-teerism helps to build indi-vidual character and keeps our company culture strong.”
