ABOUT THE SALVATION ARMY KROC CENTER

Page 3: Kroc Tour guide

RAY & JOAN KROCJoan Kroc, wife of McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc, had a vision: Build state-of-the-art recreational and arts facilities in underserved communities throughout the nation to ensure that all individuals have equal opportunities to grow their natural gifts and talents.

• Joan Kroc bequeathed $1.5 billion to The Salvation Army to create 27 Kroc Centers nationwide.

• At time of donation, it was the largest gift ever given to a private charity.

The 130,000 ft2 Coeur d’Alene Kroc Center opened May 11, 2009.

The Salvation Army & Ray and Joan Kroc Center: A match made in Heaven.THE SALVATION ARMYThe Kroc Center is owned and operated by The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized Christian nonprofit.

• The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 by William & Catherine Booth.

• Present in the Inland Northwest since 1891.

• The Kroc Center is the first Salvation Army Corps in Coeur d’Alene since 1946.

• You will often hear our Pastors referred to as Majors, a sign of their position in The Salvation Army. They also serve as The Kroc Center’s Executive Directors.

THE SALVATION ARMY MISSIONThe Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Through The Kroc Center, The Salvation Army:

• Provides over 2,000 Kroc membership scholarships to local seniors, youth and individuals.

• Partners with 5 local nonprofits to provide food, shelter and other necessities to those in need.

• Provides free and low cost community events and activities.
