At The Salvation Army Kroc Centerpeople are inspired to discover their God given talents and develop their potential through artistic, educational, physical and spiritual experiences in a Christ-centered atmosphere.

It’s About the MissionThe Salvation ArmyThe Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love for God. Its mission is to

preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Nearly 33 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through a wide array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. About 83 cents of every dollar raised is used to support those services in nearly 9,000 communities nationwide.

For more information, go to www.salvationarmyusa.org.

Joan Kroc’s VisionIn January of 2004, Joan Kroc, wife of the McDon-ald’s restaurant chain founder Ray Kroc, left a gift of $1.6 billion to The Salvation Army to build and oper-ate community centers around the country. Joan’s vision was that people in underserved areas would be given access to a high quality facility with a variety of programs so they might discover their natural gifts and talents. Kroc Centers are now located in 26 cities, including Hawaii and Puerto Rico!

The Omaha Kroc Center, which opened in the fall of 2009, is one of five located in The Salvation Army’s Central Region. It was made possible through both the generosity of Ray and Joan Kroc as well as the Omaha community. Our Kroc Center currently serves approximately 3,000 members. The facility, programs and events are also open to the general public. In addition, groups and businesses rent the Kroc Center for a wide variety of professional meetings and personal events. For more information, please visit www.OmahaKroc.org.

“ The Kroc Center has helped us immensely in many ways. My husband and I, as well my parents, have been motivated to improve our lifestyle and have acquired discipline in the aspect of exercise and maintaining a healthier and active life.

The Kroc Center has also helped with the academic education of our children. We utilize the After School Program and Camp Kroc in the summer. The kids have greatly improved their studies and reading thanks to these programs. The Kids’ Grandparents have benefitted as well because they participate in fitness classes and have been able to maintain a healthier lifestyle. It is because of all of the wonderful things the Kroc Center is to our family that we are very grateful to be given the opportunity to join this center and take part in all it has to offer. ”

To all the Members and Friends of the Kroc Center:

Autumn is a beautiful and exciting time of year. Did you ever gather great piles of leaves in your yard in the fall and run and jump into them? I remember as a child, running, jumping, and tossing leaves with my brother and sister, we would laugh and play for hours. It is our desire at The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center to inspire families to play and grow together in fun and healthy ways.

As school starts back in session, the long summer days get shorter, and your family prepares to move activities inside we hope you will discover all the fun family-friendly activities the Kroc Center can offer you.

Be sure to check out all the new and exciting activities you can do together at the Kroc Center along with some old favorites! Here is some of what’s coming this Fall and Winter…

n Aqua-Joints n Aqua Kids n Teen Splash n HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) n Indoor Soccer Skills Camp n Open Art Studio n Inflatable Fridays n Breakfast with Santa

Our desire is for you to find something for everyone in your family which will lead you to a happier and healthier New Year. For as we plant the seeds of hard work, we hope to reap the benefits of a happier and healthier life.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

Friends, Neighbors & Newcomers, join us in worship as we glorify God. Faith is the heart of the Kroc Community. We believe it is this faith in Jesus that allows us to make a difference and transform lives.

Adult Bible Study 9:30amAll of us have important questions about faith, God and how to make good choices. Studying the scripture in a small group helps us discover what God invites us to be, do and change in order to be healthy in body, mind and soul.

KR C CHURCH

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now

and forever! Amen.” - 2 Peter 3:18

Where can you sleep in a tent, cook over a fire, ride a zip line across a river…twice, explore the cave where Jesse James once hid stolen treasure, test your outdoor skills and meet new friends? This and more is possible at the upcoming National Jamboree held at Huzzah Valley Resort in Steelville, Missouri. Youth from across the country will converge there July 11-15, 2016. While that may seem a long way off, now is the time to begin preparing by joining the Kroc Center’s Youth Alive youth group, which begins September 2015. Only those who earn the required Nature and Safety emblems through our Youth Alive Ranger (for boys) and Girl Guard programs will be eligible to attend the Jamboree.

Rangers and Girl Guards meet once a month at the Kroc Center on Saturdays, see page 7 for details or contact Joyce Kocarnik with your questions: 402-905-3522 or [email protected]

FLOAT4LIFE LESSONS AGES 1 - 3 Float4Life is a water safety pro-gram that teaches young children, ages 1-3, how to roll on their backs (like an Otter!) so they can breathe, float and reach the side of the pool until help arrives. Those precious seconds can save a life! Ses-sions include 8 lessons, each 15 minutes long. These “mini” lessons maximize the short attention span of toddlers while gradually increas-ing the child’s comfort level in the water through personalized one-to-one instruction. The program is a partnership between the Omaha Kroc Center and the Joshua Collingsworth Memorial Foundation.

“Too Brief Here On Earth, But His Impact Will Last Forever…”

Josh the Otter was created in honor of Joshua Collingsworth, a 21/2 year old little boy who was lost to a drowning accident in June of 2008 in Lincoln, NE. His parents believed they had all the pool safety barriers in place but did not spend enough time talking to him about never going near the pool unless mom and dad were with him. During a family gathering he was briefly out of sight, went to fill his brother’s squirt gun, lost his balance and fell in the pool. Josh the Otter’s goal is to educate all children that water is fun but only with an adult. The Joshua Collingsworth Memorial Foundation is dedicated to water safety and life saving programs like Float4Life.

Toddlers learn how to roll on their backs, like an Otter!

VOLUNTEER!Often referred to as “the army behind the Army,” volun-teers play an active role in the success of The Salvation Army Kroc Center! Caring people, who would enjoy coaching, mentoring, giving tours or those who simply want to do something completely different than their daily routine, are encouraged to join the Kroc Center volunteer team.

Volunteering does not require extensive skill or training, but it does require heart. If you have the heart to help, the Kroc Center would love to hear from you! For a Volunteer Enrollment Form and to get more information on how you can make a difference please contact:

The Kroc Center offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for both groups and individuals of all ages and interests:

DONATE!Joan Kroc knew that healthy, happy, confident people are better parents, earn higher grades in school, enjoy their jobs and are more productive, and actively pursue a better future for their community. That is why she trusted The Salvation Army with her dream that Kroc Centers would bring communities together.

Omaha’s Kroc Center does this every day. We start by hon-oring what each person brings with them and then match them to programs and activities that help them discover and develop those unique talents. Our goal is to help everyone achieve successes that build confidence and self-esteem. We sometimes encounter a family who we know would really benefit from the Kroc Center, but they simply can’t afford to join. That is when the generosity of donors kicks in.

The Kroc Center’s Scholarship Fund permits us to reduce the cost of membership to a level that anybody can afford. When you donate to support scholarships, you’re honoring Mrs. Kroc’s original founding gift to the Salvation Army. She wanted Kroc Centers to provide benefit to the commu-nity and to be sustained by the community.

More importantly, your gift helps families right here in Omaha develop important skills and confidence, and enjoy some quality time together. Your donation goes to work immediately to keep memberships and program costs low, assuring everybody has access. Just like Joan Kroc wanted.

TO DONATE, please contact John Wehrle, Director of Donor Relations at 402-905-3527.

Thank you for your support.

What are the 40 Developmental Assets?Assets are 40 values, experiences, and qualities that help kids succeed. When consistently present in a young person’s life these assets greatly increase the probability of that young person to thrive and avoid risky behavior. LIKE THE KROC CENTER? INVITE YOUR FRIENDS TO VISITGuests can use the Kroc Center for just $7/adults or $5/youth per day. Use of the Indoor Turf Field is an additional $3 per person.

What makes The Salvation Army Kroc Center so special? It’s not the Aquatics Center or the game room or even the advanced fitness equipment (though those things are awfully nice). It’s the mission! The mission of The Salvation Army is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

One of the ways we accomplish this mission is by creating programs and services that develop assets in youth and families. Developmental assets are enriching. They help individuals reach their potential and contribute to their families, schools, and communities. Developmental assets lead to more caring, responsible, healthy, and productive habits and allow individuals to have a more positive self-view.*

The Kroc Center is special because it is intentionally creating pathways for each person to be inspired, receive instruction, and to get involved in a variety of ways. The Kroc Center is committed to providing access to resources that can transform your life!
