We can get so busy that we don’t take time to sit down and think a while, pray. Choosing a special time to visit the Chapel on Wednesday or Friday is a perfect way to let go of all our busy nerv-

ousness and rest with Him without distractions. It starts right after the 8:30 a.m. Mass and closes with Benedic-tion at 5 p.m.

I Am Very Happy to be Back Home - continued - He showed us Saint Theresa Parish in South Lake Tahoe, a Church of the diocese of Sacramento, beautiful, with a huge rectory with many rooms. They had a Catholic school that did close for lacking enough children a few years ago. We passed Pope Beach, I wonder how they came up with this name; Emerald Bay, a very small island in Lake Tahoe with a tea house on it. So many people stop to see that small island. We saw Fallen Leaf Lake, small but beautiful and clear like Lake Tahoe. I wish I had enough time and opportunities to fish. But it was very cold and less activities in the lake. We arrived at Corpus Christi, a Catholic church located on North Shore; Tahoe City, and immediately we reached Fanny Bridge. The Road 89 leading us from South shore to North shore is a narrow one and is very close to the lake. I was nervous, thinking that we would fall into the lake. From there, Father Stanley took us to Squaw Valley, where the Winter Olympics took place. There is a mission called Queen of Snows. I was amazed to see the Olympic torch still burning after so many years. We went to see the Old Church of Our Lady of Assumption Parish that was sold and the new one built one mile away at the top of the mountain. We went to see the mission of OLA Truckee called Kings Beach; beautiful mission with a beautiful statute of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Lastly, we stopped at the Church located in Nevada called Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Incline Village. This Church is beautiful with windows around the Altar so that people can see the lake. I heard about this Church, but, it was the first time to see this Church with my own eyes. The pastor is 81 years old. A very good and humorous man called Michael. He was very happy to see Father Stanley and all of us. Since time was running out, we headed down to the Harvey’s Hotel, for the evening service. That was not far away maybe 10 to 20 miles. Friday morning after breakfast, we had the last talk regarding the importance of the laity in the Church at the light of Lumen Gensium. It was very inspiring. We had the last Mass in the hotel and immediately took off heading to our Parishes. Guess what, it is better to be home. Nothing is like your own home and your own bed. Home is really the sweetest place, much better than all the places even if they are made in gold. I am very happy to be back home. God bless, Father Bernardin MUGABO

Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time - October 27, 2019 The prayer of the lowly pierces the clouds; it does not rest until it reaches its goal, nor will it withdraw till the Most High responds. — Sirach 35:1718a

Prayer & reflection for the 30’ Sunday of ordinary time: “God, though your Son, Jesus, is equal to you in everything, he became a servant that our sins might be forgiven. Made strong by your Spirit, we want to imitate him, to serve others, especially those who cannot help themselves and show the world what sort of people you want us all to be. We make this prayer to you through Christ our Lord. Amen.” The Gospel passage today is from Luke 18: 9-14. We hear the story of the tax collector and the Pharisee. What was the difference between these two people? One was very boastful. The other was humble. What does it mean to be humble? “Biblical humility is to see oneself honestly before God.” When we are humble we realize that we need God’s help and we pray for God’s help. Pope Francis’ October intention: “That the breath of the Holy-Spirit engender a new missionary ‘spring’ in the church.” Please contact the Religious-Education office above for more information and registration materials regarding the following programs: RE/CCD/CFF (for children – grades K – Jr. High); Confirmation for Adults; Returning-Catholics; General-Assistance.
