Huge success for 0pen Gardens 2015
Well, what a wonderful day we had, starting with the excitement of Radio Norfolks Treasure Quest programme. The open gardens team were making smoked salmon sandwiches and listening to a very helpful lady guessing they needed our extra garden, which would have made it number 28! Still Sophie found the right garden in the end, by which time a small crowd of neighbours had gathered, so now we know the people of Thetford listen to radio Norfolk!
Although it was a dull and somewhat cloudy day, it didnt deter our visitors, (from as far away as Edinburgh!) In fact they seem to have had more energy to visit more gardens and pick up lots of plants to take home with them. Our gardenhosts do love the
engagement of their visitors and are often willing to dig up offshoots, or cuttings of their prized plants to share.
There were plenty of refreshment stops to keep folk well fuelled, as our gardens were quite spread out this year. Some tried to sample them all, but for others the smell of bacon rolls wafting down Arlington Way proved irresistible, and they enjoyed this beautiful garden
There was of course a serious point to the day, raising money for St Nicholas Hospice Care, our local hospice, which cares so brilliantly for lots of people in our Thetford community. Last year we made a huge percentage leap on previous years, and this year we have surpassed 7K for the first time!.I would like to publicly thank ALL those involved, the gardeners, the plant sellers, the raffle ticket sellers, the cake makers, waitresses and those washing up, the Facebook and Twitter followers, and all the generous people who made Thetford Open Gardens such an all round success.
The lucky prize winners have received their prizes and the lucky numbers were:- 1st prize 00740, 2nd prize 01556, 3rd prize 05438, other winners were 05465, 02654,00304,05325,01165,01823,00061,03041,00930,03678,04598 and the lucky programme prize the bee picture, was won by a keen gardener in Thetford! Best wishes, Rachel Woods
