Store Steers to £1435 Store Heifers to £1350
Even with larger numbers coming forward everywhere, Friday saw a stronger store cattle trade here at Exeter
with excellent demand for types on offer (including those younger weathered dairy bred sorts). British blues
steers headed that section with five grand ones (28m) from David Withers of Whimple reaching £1435 apiece followed by a pen of eight eye catching sorts (24m) at £1395 for Chris Poad of St Dominick and four younger
(18m) Blue’s from Barry Mildon of Cadbury which drew £1370 a head. Plenty of well bred South Devon
bullocks about on Friday with a single (23m) rising to £1370 for Richard Gray of Holne followed by a pen of
four smart ones born around the same time which rose to £1265 for Phillip and Richard Coaker of Postbridge
and later born South Devon steers (15m) from Steve and Rachel Lang of Plympton that reached £1070 for a
bunch of six. A solitary Limousin steer (23m) sold well at £1330 for Chris Poad as did a striking pen of seven
slightly younger Limousin’s (20m) at £1245 for Joe and Matthew Rowe of Twowatersfoot with even later born
Limousin’s (15m) also well sold at £1170 for Matthew Wilson of Dunsford. The latter also saw very well
turned out Charolais steers (only 15m) rise to £1120. Aberdeen Angus steers (25m) ran to £1230 for John
Harris and Family of Zeal Monarchorum with others (22m) to £1200 for Joan White of Throwleigh and £1190
(26m) for Alan Jewell in from Okehampton. A decent trio of Hereford bred steers (18m) returned £1145 a life
for Ian Drake of Wiggaton and the best of the Blonde steers saw a pair of super young (12m) steers from
Mary and Dan Alford, Tavistock take home £1020 each. Store heifers topped at £1350 for a well-covered
Charolais (29m) from Michael Tooze of Broadsands followed another fleshy heifer from Robert Harvey of
Plymouth with his Aberdeen Angus (21m) at £1260. Chris Dunn, Winkleigh was back again this week and saw
his pen of four cracking British Blue Heifers (21m) rise to £1085 apiece closely followed by further quality
Blue’s (27m) from John Harris and Family which went on to make £1060 a life. As with the steers, Limousin
heifers sold well and to £1075 for a super trio (29m) from Andrew Cleave of Christow with younger (18m)
ones to £1045 for Matt Vellacott of Wellington and Beef Shorthorns (22m) to £1040 for Chris Dunn once
more. Other native bred heifers in demand too with a lovely group of three South Devon females (20m)
fetching £1030 for Steve and Rachel Lang and four Hereford heifers (21m) from Messrs Hawkins of
Thorverton saw £1020 apiece.
Please notify us of intended numbers by Thursday lunchtime if you are bringing store cattle on a
Friday, we message over three hundred potential purchasers the day before the sale and the more
we can advertise the more buyers we can attract. Market office 01392 251261 or 07791 484290

A larger entry on the year for our first autumn catalogued show and sale was met with keen interest with a

Breeding Ewes to £172 Store Lambs to £112 Grazers to £106 Stock Rams to £780
A sizable entry of breeders for the last sale of the season saw 2431 breeding sheep kick off proceedings and
although the demand and some lower end prices seem a world away from what we witnessed back in July and
early August, but the top prices achieved are still far in advance of anything seen previous to 2021. Mule

annual draft from Rob & Sue Greep of Cornwood and £90 for Ben & Jess Collings of Launceston.
Over 1200 ewe lambs were a straight trade with the majority making a premium and hence bought to keep
and come next year as shearlings. Top money to Dorset’s from Alan Bickley of Puddington realising £148,
£138 & £135 as NJ Williams of Sidmouth sold Suffolk crosses to £135, Michael & James Reddaway of Sampford

lambs from Norman Dalgarno of Truro, £111.50 for a large pen of crossbred lambs from David & Justine
Colton of Princetown, £109.50 for John Bond of East Allington and £109 for Mark & John Moore of
Rackenford. A further 18 pens over £100 with all short term lambs £95 plus. Medium term lambs into the
early £90’s for the better bred sorts with plenty mid £80’s and the longer term lambs were usually all £70 plus

of Dorset x Mules from John Hallett of Exton and £100.50 for crossbred ewes from Les Palmer of Chillington.
