Prime Cattle to 202 ppk and £1462 Barren Cows to 154 ppk and £1111
Monday saw prime cattle reach a top of 202ppk for a very smart 500kg red Limousin heifer from Tucker and
Parkhouse of Pennymoor with other cracking heifers reaching 194ppk for a 488kg Simmental from David Slade
of Chagford. Strong 750kg plus British Blue steers rose to 193ppk and £1462 for Graham Tancock of Broadclyst

from Tucker and Parkhouse which sold to 148ppk and £936. Salers barreners from Russell Boundy of Winkleigh

Prime Lambs to £101 & 208ppk Cull Ewes to £93.50 & Rams to £109
A slightly smaller entry of 831 lambs forward saw overall an easier trade as seen nationally through the latter
part of last week. Top of the day was £101 for a 58kgs Suffolk
lamb from Gordon & Gill White of Crediton. A cracking run of
49-52kgs Charollais from Tom & Emma Wotton of
Moretonhampstead topped at £98 with pens to £97, £93.20 &
£92.80. Others to £93 for Mr RT Seward of Silverton, £92.50
for Messrs MA May & Son of Crediton, £91.50 for Mr RWG Warren of Tiverton, £91.50 £90 for 50kgs & 47kgs and £90 for
46kgs for Barry Mildon of Cadbury. 45kgs lambs to £88.80 for
Mr J Hastie of Wiveliscombe & £87.20 for Keith Rowell of
Drewsteighton. 43kgs lambs to £86.50 and 201ppk for Roger
Coysh of Newton Abbot. Top ppk was 208 for 38kgs for Mr K
White of Chudleigh which made £79.20 with some light 35kgs
lambs to £71 and 203ppk for Mr K Greenslade of Galmpton and
Messrs WG & ML Scott of South Brent. The SQQ was back 9
pence at 187ppk.
A massive entry of cull sheep saw an excellent trade from start to finish especially for the grazing sorts which
were off the clock! No real outstanding top end ewes the break the £100 barrier but the best Suffolks sold to
£93 for Mr TJ Whitely of Widecombe in the Moor with others to £89.50 for Messrs MC & M Jarvis of
Kingsbridge, £8850 for Messrs MA May & Son of Crediton and Mark & Anita Saunders of Hemyock. Many more
pens sold in the mid-late Eighties. Mules look well sold with the best to £72 for Foxworthy Estate with others
to £69.50 for Mr AL Wonnacott of St Giles On The Heath and Messrs J & A Crocombe of Chulmleigh sold a
good run of Mules to £69, £68 & £67.50. A few pens of Hill Ewes met a steadier trade with the best to £46 with
others to £42 for Messrs Abel Bros of Tavistock. Rams were a sound trade topping at £109 for a Charollais
from Mark Hayman & Abi Dart of Cullompton with others to £105.50 twice and £105 for Mark & Anita Saunders.
Several others in the late eighties and early nineties. Over the average slightly back on last week but with 400
more Ewes this week and several Hill Ewes in the average overall it was a fantastic trade!

691 PRIME LAMBS
Another quiet Monday in the sheep pens with 691 prime lambs selling at recent levels with a top of £86 for Texel x
50kg lambs from David Goss of Littlehempston who also had 51kg Charollais at £83.50 and smart 47kg continentals at
£83 (177ppk). Overweights to £85 for AJ Carter of Dawlish and £81.50 for Paul West of Holbeton. Other 50-52kg
lambs selling at £85 for Tripp Bros & Sons of Dunsford £84.20 for Tony Pickard of South Molton, £82.80 for Ken
Chapple of Oakford and £82.50 for RD Middleton & Son of Ashreigney. A trio of smart 47kg Beltex crosses from
Tracey Pike of Luppit sold at £82.50 (176ppk). 45kg Charollais lambs to £77 for Len Sharland of Tiverton and the same
price per head for 44kgs from Keith Milton of Pennymoor who also claimed top price per kilo when his two pens of
smart 41kg lambs rose to 180 & 178ppk or £73.80 & £72.80 respectively. A great line up of well finished light lambs
from 28 to 39kgs saw top per head of £66 achieved by both Blackaton Manor Farms of Widecombe with 39kg
Cheviots and also of 38kg Suffolk crosses from Abel Bros of Tavistock who also parted with 33kg Welsh lambs at
£56.20, 31kg hill lambs at £54, 30kgs at £53.20 (177ppk) and a large pen of 28kg Scotties at £48.20. Overall average is
just a penny better at 170ppk.
367 CULL EWES & 20 RAMS/WETHERS
A short entry of just under 400 cull sheep sold with a better feel to the trade as mule and other medium weight ewes
were noticeably dearer than seen in a long time. Best crossbred ewes to £90 for a pair of Black Texels from Tracey
Pike of Luppit, £89.50, £88.50 & £86 for penfuls of strong Suffolk crosses from Tom Yandle of Mamhead and £87 for
similar from Tim Whitley of Widecombe. Others £75 to £84 depending on breed, condition and weight. Best mules as
mentioned looking £6-£9 dearer on the week with two pens selling at £77.50 & £74.50 for Brad Simmons of
Thorndon Cross, £76.50 for Ellen Yandle of Mamhead and a meated run from Sam Ursell of Tedburn St Mary sold to
£76, £74.50, £73 & £72.50. Hill ewes fewer in number and often £30 to £40 with no real strength present and very
few lots sold under £25. Rams a touch stronger trade too with Brad Simmons also topping these with a weighty
Suffolk selling at £99 followed by AJ Carter with a Texel at £92.50 and B Moseley of Hittisleigh realised £89. All cull
sheep averaged £62, which is up £10 on the week, half of the lift is due to quality, the other half is the strength of
trade.
