NEW YORK An oil painting by German abstract artist Gerhard Richter from Eric Claptons collection is head-ing for a New York City auction.

Christies auction house says Ab-straktes Bild is estimated to sell for $20 million to $25 million on Nov. 12.

It says the English guitarist and song-writer bought the painting at auction in 2001.

The large oil painting was executed in 1994. It has a rich palette of red, purple, violet and yellow evocative of a fall landscape.

The journalists provided no evidence of the purported U.S. program at the news conference, nor details of who it targeted.

Jeremy Scahill, a contributor to The Nation magazine and the New York Times best-selling author of Dirty Wars, said he will be working with Glenn Greenwald, the Rio-based jour-nalist who has written stories about U.S. surveillance programs based on docu-ments leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.

The connections between war and surveillance are clear. I dont want to give too much away but Glenn and I are working on a project right now that has at its center how the National Security Agency plays a significant, central role in the U.S. assassination program, said Scahill, speaking to moviegoers in Rio de Janeiro, where the documentary based on his book made its Latin American debut at the Rio Film Festival.

There are so many stories that

are yet to be published that we hope will produce actionable intelligence, or information that ordinary citizens across the world can use to try to fight for change, to try to confront those in power, said Scahill.

Dirty Wars the film, directed by Richard Rowley, traces Scahills investi-gations into the Joint Special Operations Command, or JSOC. The movie, which won a prize for cinematography at the Sundance Film Festival, follows Scahill as he hopscotches around the globe, from Afghanistan to Yemen to Somalia, talk-ing to the families of people killed in the U.S. strikes.

Neither Scahill nor Greenwald, who also appeared at the film festivals ques-tion and answer panel, provided many details about their joint project.

Bangli (Bali Post)Public awareness to submit a permit

prior to building seems very low, in-cluding the awareness of the individual officers in the circle of Bangli govern-ment. Previously, the construction of Waterboom at Sidembunut, Bangli, owned by a senior official in the Bangli House was known to have no permit. In fact, the motor cross track at the location was also known to have no entertainment permit from police authority.

Operations Division Head of Bangli Police, Wimboko, said on Thursday (Sep 26) the motor cross track that would accommodate a lot of people should have an entertainment permit from po-lice because there was possibility if the motor cross track could also be used as a gambling arena. The police authority having the rights to issue the entertain-ment permit was the intelligence unit. If it really has not owned any permit, the motor cross track may not operate, said Wimboko, accompanied by Chief of Intelligence Unit, Budiasa.

He added the making of motor cross track should also pay attention to some standardization so that it could be de-clared really worth operating. One of which was the need to meet the health and safety standards. Not only that, the person in charge of the motor cross track should also be clear.

Chief of Intelligence Unit, Budiasa, admitted that so far his party had never received any permit application related to the presence of the motor cross track at the Waterboom at Sidembunut. Hav-ing been checked, in fact there is no permit application. Thus, we make sure if the motor cross track is illegal, he said. According to him, the management of the arena should meet the permit in advance including the permit from the Bangli government.

Previously, in a release sent by the project owner to reporters was stated if the local community was very enthusi-astic about the development project. As evidence, many local residents came to location of the motor cross track every day to channel their hobby for free. The motor cross track, as admitted by the project owner, was intentionally pro-vided for young children in Bangli that had hobby in the motor cross sport. Nev-ertheless, when traced, so far the track arena had not owned a permit. (ina)

The delivery of school goods took place after a short speech by Matthias Huwiler, Managing Director of Flextra-vel Switzerland, and Gunnel Burri, Product Director for Flextravel. They both appreciated the warm welcome given by the elementary school students.

We will show to Swiss travel-ers the condition of education and students in Bali. In fact, they are very enthusiastic about learning, including their participation in the extracurricular activities, said Gun-nel Burri in an emotional speech in German language. According to her, similar assistance will also be continued to other schools in Bali. Even, it would be packed in such a way into a tour package for travelers from Switzerland.

Matthias Huwiler stressed that one of the future assistance will also be in the form of provision to disadvantaged students. He also also admired the diligence of the students to preserve their local culture.

With this CSR program, Flex Travel would like to express its concern for the community. We are committed to constantly support and encourage the CSR program, so that we do not only take advan-tage of and enjoy the potential and natural resources of Bali, but we can also give back to the community as well as to the environment, he explained.

After delivering the assistance, the group consisting of 22 travelers enjoyed an art activity presented by the students starting from dance performance, preparation of ritual oblation to the play of Balinese traditional musical instruments. They were very impressed with the students interests. The journey was then continued to the area of Batukaru Temple and Jatiluwih tourist attraction.

In this Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013 photo, the cartelginous skeleton of a white tipped reef shark is displayed during a touring exhibit, Sea Monsters Revealed: Aquatic Bodies.

underneath. The exhibit, which opens Friday at

the aquarium, is similar to the popular Bodies and Body Worlds exhibits of dissected human bodies that have toured the world.

The Sea Monsters Revealed show includes 18 big sea creatures a 6-foot(1.8-meter)-wide devil ray, a 15-foot(4.5-meter)-long mako shark and an 18-foot(5.5-meter)-long,

3,000-pound (1,361-kilogram) whale shark along with more than 150 in-dividual organs and smaller animals.

As visitors walk along one side of the giant whale shark, the character-istic gray skin with white dots can be seen. Walking up the other side, that skin has been taken away to show the muscle structure underneath. A cavity opened underneath the shark shows comb-like structures along its gills that allows the shark to filter the water for food.

Another remarkable part of the exhibit is a silky shark with the skin peeled away on one side to reveal sev-eral embryos inside her abdomen.

These are creatures that histori-cally, in the early days when they were first discovered, were considered mon-sters because early sailors who saw these animals really didnt know what they were, said aquarium spokesman Cary Rountree. Over time, its been revealed that theyre actually some of the most marvelous animals in our ocean.

Visitors to the Georgia Aquarium can see live examples of whale sharks and devil rays, and then see how their bodies work in the new exhibit, Rountree said.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti Haiti has formed a special police force to protect the legions of tourists the government hopes to bring to the troubled Caribbean nation.

Tourism Minister Stephanie Villedrouin said at a Friday cer-emony that 53 agents will patrol the countrys tourist resorts. Each has received 340 hours of class-room time to brush up on Haitian

history and geography. They have also studied Spanish and English to better help tourists.

The agents will carry 9 mm handguns and will report both to the tourism and justice ministries.

The two-year-old government of President Michel Martelly has sought to make tourism a priority. His government has doubled its tour-ism budget and is hoping that $27 million from Venezuela will help revive the once-thriving industry.

The Etemad newspaper carried a front-page photomontage of Rouhani and Obama side by side, with a banner headline reading: Historic contact on way home. But Rouhanis 15-minute conver-sation with the leader of a country long derided as the Great Satan was too much for some hardliners. Nearly 60 gathered outside Tehrans Mehrabad Airport on Saturday, chanting Death to America and Death to Israel as his motorcade passed.

They were outnumbered by 200 to 300 supporters of the presi-dent chanting Thank you Rou-hani, who were separated from the protesters by police. The shoe was thrown as Rouhani stood up

through the sunroof of his car to acknowledge the crowd. It failed to hit its target. There have been no diplomatic relations between Tehran and Washington since radi-cal students took hostages at the US embassy in the aftermath of the 1979 revolution.

Dubbed the nest of spies by the regime, the old embassy site is the scene of annual commemorations which have been the focal point for hardline anti-US sentiment. Rou-hani told reporters at the airport the call had been Obamas initiative.

I was informed President Obama wanted to speak to me for a few minutes, his office quoted him as saying. Iranian media later reported that Rouhani had brought

home a 2,700-year-old Persian artefact -- a silver chalice in the shape of a winged Griffin -- given to him as a special gift to the Iranian people.

The artefact depicting the mythi-cal eagle-headed lion, worth an estimated one million dollars, was seized by US customs officials from a smuggler in 2003. Iranian newspapers crowed that Rouhani had caught the worlds media off guard by taking Obamas call after coverage of his keenly awaited visit to the United Nations in New York had focused on the lack of a face-to-face meeting.

MILAN - Italys fragile coali-tion government was pushed into a full-fledged crisis Saturday after five ministers from former Premier Silvio Berlusconis political party announced their resignations.

The move drew the ire of Pre-mier Enrico Letta, who accused Berlusconi of a crazy gesture aimed at covering up his personal affairs. The five-month-old gov-ernment has teetered for weeks since the high court confirmed Berlusconis tax fraud convic-tion.

Berlusconis center-right Peo-ple of Liberty Party is in an un-usual coalition of rival forces with Lettas center-left Democratic Party, and the resignations signals the end of the alliance.

The resignations must be for-mally submitted to President Gior-gio Napolitano, who must decide if there is any way to continue the government or if new elections must be held.

The announcement by the center-right ministers came after Berlusconi urged ministers in his party to step down if the govern-ment doesnt revoke an increase to Italys value-added tax that takes effect next week.

    Tensions already were swirling

around a Senate committee vote next week on whether to revoke Berlusconis legislative seat be-cause of the tax fraud conviction.

Letta, in a statement issued by his office, said Berlusconi was using the sales tax increase as an alibi to justify the crazy and ir-responsible gesture, all aimed only to cover up his personal affairs.

Letta said it was Berlusconi who was forcing the governments hand on the sales tax by depriving it of the stability needed to push through alternative measures.

The Italian people will know to return to the sender such a big lie and attempt to distort real-ity, Letta said. Democratic Party leader Guglielmo Epifani called the center-right ministers move irresponsible.

They are provoking a crisis and we must evaluate exactly what the consequences are, he said.

Letta had warned on Friday that he will quit unless he receives prompt pledges of solid support in a confidence vote in Parlia-ment on his government, which is struggling to pull Italy out of a recession.

Nearly all of Berlusconis sena-tors have vowed to quit, if a Senate committee votes next week to strip him of his Senate seat because of the conviction.

The fires inflaming the forest of Mount Agung reached the height of three meters. Even though being large and high, they could partially be extinguished. However, the hotspots spreading in the northern part of east slope of the Mount Agung could not be put out up to Friday morning (Sep 27).

It happened, according to the Secretary of the Karangasem Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Ketut Prama Budarta, the hotspots were located far from each other. One

of them was located at the location that should pass through a valley by going down and up on steep cliff. The BPBD team and other units were tired on Friday and decided to go down to Batudawa and arrived at 10:00 a.m. They climbed the mountain at night around 10:00 p.m. from Batudawa Kaja, Tulamben village. Previously, the team said prayers in the Bingin Temple at Batudawa Kaja for invoking safety. On the day before, the team was almost lost and could not find the way home as climbing at night to extinguish the fire.

The team went down from Mount Agung

after putting out the flames blazing with a height up to 2.5 meters. Chief of the BPBD Karangasem, Ketut Sutirtayasa, was tired after joining the climb to the mountain. The Chief of BPBD arrived underneath and directly led to the office of the BPBD and looked very tired, said Prama Budarta.

The forest fire was estimated to occur on the eastern slope of Mount Agung which was actu-ally slightly bare and only overgrown by grassy weeds, shrubs and few trees. The acreage of for-est fire approximately reached 100 hectares. So far, the team put out the fire manually. (013)

The investigation plan to the deadly mu-seum was disclosed by Chief of the Kediri Po-lice, Erwin Pratomo, Saturday (Sep 28). This officer from Madiun, East Java, confirmed that his party would make coordination with Tabanan Police to handle the case. We will coordinate with Tabanan Police to investigate the possibility of negligence. We do not know yet who will be summoned, he said. Since it belonged to the Bali government, the inves-tigators could potentially ask information to the officials of the Bali Culture and Tourism

Agency because the institution was respon-sible for the museum condition.

He described the indication of negligence was based on the results of crime scene inves-tigation and initial examination to a number of witnesses. Based on survey, said the Police Chief, there was no explanation regarding the existence of hazardous location to visitors so the condition could not be ascertained. But, this needs investigating further, he explained. Since the case had something to do with the Bali government, his party should coordinate

with the Tabanan Police, including the inves-tigations to be taken.

Chief of the Kediri Police hoped that such incident could become a lesson for related parties on the importance to improve public facilities so as such similar incident would not happen again. Its a valuable lesson. Do not let it take another casualty, he concluded.

As reported previously, three students were injured as toppled over by the collapsed revet-ment in the museum area. It occurred when dozens of students were joining a field study related to subak museum. When visiting the irrigation system, the revetment at the location suddenly collapsed and buried the students. Three students were injured and averagely bleeding in the leg. After the incident, the Regent of Tabanan, Ni Putu Eka Wiryastuti, temporarily closed the museum activity to avoid subsequent casualties. (kmb30)

Since the past three weeks, the 3-kg LPG tube has been difficult to find at some retailers. If they are available, the price is more expensive than the regular price. It is also triggered by the absence of Fixed Retail Price (HET) at the level of sub-agencies or retailers.

Some residents in Jembrana subdistrict met on Friday (Sep 27) complained about the difficulty of find the gas for their stove. However, if it was available, the price increased at IDR 2,000 per tube. This condition had occurred since the past three weeks. Moreover, ahead of Galun-gan and Kuningan festivity the 3-kg gas was in high demand.

One of the LPG agencies located at the Sudirman petrol station no longer had stock. Of the 1,200 tubes, they were entirely in empty condition. Manager of the Petrol Station, Gusti Putu Sudiasa admitted the stock had run out due to a change from the agency. Originally, the distribution was made every day and then it was changed into once in two days. Similarly, the amount was not the same as the previous distribution. Usually, we are supplied 560 tubes every day, but it was then reduced to 360 tubes, said Sudiasa.

However, according to him, the agen-cies sold it to retailers at the previous price. At the retail level, there was price increase. Probably, it happened due to the difficulty of getting the tube stock. So far, there were many consumers purchased directly to the agency and took up to more than 40 tubes. But due to lacking of supply lately, this agency could only serve the purchase of maximally 10 tubes. Accord-ing to him, such condition had occurred since the past three weeks.

Different condition was experienced by I Nyoman Suheriawan at Lelateng, Negara. The man becoming a sub-agency of LPG since the conversion of kerosene to gas admitted to have no problem with the stock. Under the contract with the agency, his LPG sub-agency was supplied with a total of 560 tubes or a truck except for holidays. Whether we can sell it out or not, we are still given at such amount. But, we obviously have regular customers. Besides, we must also deliver it to custom-ers, he explained. According to him, the price was adjusted, and considered the location of every customer. Indeed, ahead of the Galungan and Kuningan festivity, the demand increased.

His party could not set the price at the retail level because so far there was no a fixed retail price. He hoped the governor could issue a decree to establish the fixed price so that it would be clear. Addition-ally, there was a rule obliging the agency to seal the tube outlet with plastic. According to him, it could slow down the service to customers because the burden was handed over to the agency level. (kmb26)

SINGARAJA - Regent of Bule-leng, Putu Agus Suradnyana, would continue to fight to a number of parties in the Bali Province to establish the tourist bus line from Gilimanuk to pass through north coast of Bali. When the bus line was diverted to north coast, he had confidence the sluggish tourism of Buleleng could revive.

    Regent of Buleleng recognized the

tourism remained sluggish due to fac-ing a number of issues. For example, Buleleng could only enjoy the arrival of guests for about 2.5 months, while in the remaining 9.5 months the hotels and restaurants were quiet. When lacking of guests how hotels can earn money to improve the image of their services, he said.

Thus, the regent said that not to be surprised when a lot of hotels did not have good quality in Buleleng. Many

hotels remained dirty, their doors were perforated and walls looked dull. It happened because they lacked of tourists coming to Buleleng so they did not get adequate income. This condition must also be considered by tourist guides, he said.

According to the regent, if the tourist bus line from Java could pass through north coast route from Gilimanuk, then the domestic tour-ist arrival in Buleleng was expected

to increase and could give a pretty good income for tourism in Bule-leng. Orally, the regent claimed to have talked to tourism figures in Denpasar including to government officials in Bali to move the bus line to the north. If the tourist bus line can be set to pass through the north coast starting in 2015, then in 2014 we will prepare a huge budget to improve the tourism facilities in Buleleng, he said.

According to the regent, the formula resulted in the workshop in Lovina should be mutualistic sym-biosis, namely good for Buleleng, good for tourist guides and good for Bali. For example, we would like to visit Banjar Hot Spring, but the bus cannot pass to the ob-ject because the road is small and damaged. It must be formulated to find the way out, said the regent. LONDON - Britains house market is showing strong signs of recovery largely on the back of surging prices in and around London, fuelling fears of a new property bubble, according to analysts.

The average cost of a home in the capital surged by 10 percent between July and September compared with the third quarter of 2012, British bank and major mortgage provider Nationwide said on Friday.

It added that the average London home, including flats as well as houses, now costs 331,338 ($532,730, 394,551 euros) -- 8.0 percent higher than in 2007 or during the run-up to the global finan-cial crisis that eventually led to prices crashing.

Across Britain, the average price of a home stands at 170,918 after gaining 4.3 percent in the third quarter on an an-nual basis, Nationwide said.

The acceleration in house prices... reported by the Nationwide will fuel concern that we could be on our way to a new housing bubble, said Howard Ar-cher, chief UK economist at IHS Global Insight research group.

Housing market activity is now really stepping up a gear, supported by markedly strengthening consumer confidence and elevated employment, and fuelled by government initiatives, Archer said.

On top of this, the Bank of England has indicated that interest rates are un-likely to rise before mid-2016, which seems likely to give many people greater confidence in their ability to purchase a house, he added.

The government launched a new programme called Help to Buy earlier this year, offering interest-free loans for a set time period to help buyers with only a 5.0-percent deposit to purchase newly built properties.

The scheme will be extended in January to offer mortgage guarantees for new and existing homes worth up to 600,000.

People will not be allowed to benefit from the scheme if they intend to own more than one property.

The current state of the housing market has meanwhile led to splits in the governing Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition.

Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng at-tended the opening ceremony for the zone, which covers 29 square kilometres (11 square miles) in the countrys commercial hub Shanghai.

Reforms in the zone will be closely-watched as a test of Chinas ability to make structural changes as it tries to realign its eco-nomic model in the face of slowing growth.

The establishment of the Shanghai free trade zone is a significant move for China to conform to new trends in the global economy and trade, and implement a more active open-ing-up strategy, Gao said in a statement.

The government will allow free yuan con-vertibility under the capital account on a trial basis, according to a statement released by the State Council (cabinet) on Friday.

Market-set interest rates, seen by analysts as a key reform for Chinas economy, will also be trialled, according to the statement.

Restrictions on foreign investment will be eased inside the area, which will also loosen controls on 18 service sectors ranging from finance and shipping to cultural services.

Several financial firms including US-based Citibank, and Chinas big four state-owned banks, will open branches in the zone, accord-ing to the Oriental Morning Post.

International firms including Microsoft and Porsche are involved in investment proj-ects there, the newspaper said.

Excitement at the launch has boosted stocks of Shanghai-based firms and spurred a rally in home prices and land costs in areas bordering the zone in the past few weeks, state media has reported.

But analysts interviewed by AFP adopted a cautious approach.

It shows that the new government is keen on making reforms, said Stefan Sack, vice president of the European Chamber of Com-

merce in China. We have to see what kind of regulations

will really be implemented there. But he added that a free trade zone in

Shanghai alone will not change how business is done in China.

Unlike with previous special economic zones launched by Chinas government, the emphasis in the Shanghai free trade zone (FTZ) on the service sector, rather than export-oriented manufacturing, has been welcomed by economists.

The government has been struggling to shift the domestic economy away from dependence on big-ticket investments and exports, and more towards consumer demand, as the key growth engine.

President of the US Chamber of Com-merce in Shanghai Kenneth Jarrett said the zones plan showed a clear emphasis on service sectors.

The project has been pushed by Premier Li Keqiang, who took office in March. He hopes it will be a model for future reforms nationwide, analysts and government officials have said.

AntaraJAKARTA - Indonesia will maintain the value of its exports to coun-

tries grouped in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), a deputy minister has said.

The value of Indonesias exports to APEC economies last year stood at US$140 billion.

For Indonesia, APEC is an important economic region so that we will continue to maintain our export value to that region, Trade Deputy Minister Bayu Krisnamurthi said over the weekend.

The value of Indonesias exports to countries grouped in APEC reached US$140 billion, accounting for about 69.8 percent of total Indonesian exports. Yet, we still suffer a deficit of US$7 billion in our trade with them. We should take this into account, noted Bayu.

Since the APEC region hosts 40 percent, or about 2.8 billion, of the world population, about 55-60 percent of the world trade volume is con-trolled by APEC economies.

Thus, Indonesia, which is hosting the APEC leaders summit in Bali next week, should benefit from the regional economic cooperation and work to guarantee that its economic growth is maintained.

We should assure that it will help us maintain our economic growth. We should continue to play an active role so that policies to be taken during the APEC talks will live up to our interests, Bayu Krisnamurthi said.

The trade deputy minister said, however, that APEC still had a chal-lenge to overcome, particularly the income gap among its members. The economies of APEC members all experience growth. Small countries experience growth and so do big ones, so that a gap remains among them, and this should draw our attention, he said.

JAKARTA - The death toll from the sinking of an Australia-bound asylum seeker boat off In-donesias main Java island rose to 28 Sunday, with many more still feared missing, police said.

We found seven more bod-ies after sweeping the coast this morning, six adults and a boy, Warsono, police chief in the Agrabinta area of Java, where the boat went down, told AFP.

He said the death toll from the accident was now 28.

But officials fear that many more are still missing after the boat carrying would-be refugees from Lebanon, Jordan and Ye-men broke into pieces and sank in rough seas south of Java on Friday.

It was the first deadly asylum boat accident since Tony Abbott

became Australias prime minis-ter earlier this month.

It came ahead of his state visit to Indonesia, which begins Monday, where his tough boatpeople policies are likely to be the focus of talks.

About 20 police, military and search and rescue officials were sweeping the coast around Agra-binta in West Java province in the hunt for survivors or bodies.

However, Warsono, who like many Indonesians goes by one name, said that rescuers could still not deploy boats to search in the rough seas, with waves at heights of four to six metres (13 to 20 feet).

About 25 people were plucked to safety when the boat went down on Friday, but many more are still feared missing.

Yanto Permana, a local di-saster official, said there was confusion about the number of

people who had been on the boat as survivors had given officials different accounts.

He said he believed there had been around 80 on the boat when it went down, meaning some 25 were still missing.

However, other officials have said they believe the boat was carrying around 120 asylum seekers.

Survivors said they were try-ing to get to Australias Christ-mas Island, closer to Java than mainland Australia.

They are the latest to try and cross the treacherous stretch of water that has claimed hundreds of asylum-seekers lives in recent years.

Australia on Sunday insisted it provided all appropriate assis-tance to the boat, after survivors claimed their calls for help had gone unheeded.

Rescuers managed to save 33 people from the buildings wreckage in the two-day search. By Sunday morning, a l l 93 people listed as missing had been accounted for and the search was called off, said Alok Awasthi, lo-cal commander of the National Disaster Response Force.

The five-story building that collapsed Friday was the third deadly cave-in of a Mumbai structure in six months. The cause is under investigation.

High demand for housing around Indias crowded cities com-bined with lax inspections often re-sult in contractors cutting corners by using substandard materials or

adding unauthorized floors. On Sa tu rday, emergency

workers labored for six hours to free the last survivor, a 50-year-old man who was trapped for more than 30 hours with his leg crushed by part of a wall. Rescu-ers lifted up the slab of cement using a specialized compressed air-pressure bag, and the man was rushed to a hospital in the afternoon.

We were able to save him, but he may lose his leg, Awasthi said. The building, which housed workers for Mumbais municipal government, was constructed in 1980, Awasthi said, adding they still did not know what caused it

to fall down. But local residents complained

We cant know that tomor-row it wont be our turn, said Anupama Shivalkar, who lives in a nearby apartment block. Two other buildings have fallen down in Mumbai this year.

In April, at least 72 people died when an illegally construct-ed building fell. Two months later, a three-story structure col-lapsed, killing at least 10 people, including five children.

LONDON - Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatchers ashes have been laid to rest in London at a service attended by her family and closest friends.

The Conservative leaders children, Mark and Carol Thatcher, were among those who gathered for a short service on Saturday before an oak casket con-taining her ashes was buried at the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Her remains were placed alongside those of her husband Denis, who died in 2003.

A headstone bearing the inscription Margaret Thatcher 1925 - 2013 was erected on top of the site. Thatcher, who led Britain from 1979 to 1990, died aged 87 in April.

In April, Britain held a ceremonial funeral with full military honors for Thatcher at St. Pauls Cathedral. About 2,300 guests attended, including digni-taries from 170 countries.

Hundreds of members of the FPI and other hardline groups limited them-selves to holding a prayer session in a mosque in Sentul, just outside the capital Jakarta, to express their opposition to the pageant.

Organisers had originally planned to hold the final in a 10,000-seat venue in Sentul, before being forced to move to a 2,000-seat centre in Nusa Dua.

Those at the prayer gathering were addressed by a Muslim preacher who lashed out at the pageant, which radicals claim goes against Islamic teaching, said FPI member Ustad Maman.

Indonesia has already shown how it feels about Miss World -- we rejected it here, we reject it anywhere, he told AFP.

Maman said that 5,000 FPI members showed up for the prayer session, although police put the figure at 1,000.

Hardliners in Indonesia have succeeded in getting numerous events deemed un-Islamic changed or cancelled in recent times.

Last year, Lady Gaga axed a concert after threats to burn down the venue and criticism for wearing only a bra and panties.

In a bid to reduce hardline anger, organisers also took an early decision this year to axe the famed bikinis from the beach fashion round, replacing them with Balinese sarongs.

A total of 129 contestants had been due to compete in the final, but two pulled out at the last minute, according to organisers.

While the popularity of Miss World, first held in 1951, has waned in the West, continued interest in Asian countries ensures that the final rakes in a huge global television audience.

Venezuela has produced the most Miss Worlds, with six winners, while India and Britain claim five titles each.

  • I definitely won seven or eight rounds of the fight, Chavez said. I was very close to knock-ing him out like three times in the fight.

Not many ringside observers agreed: The crowd at StubHub Center, largely pro-Chavez dur-ing the fight, roundly booed the decision and Chavez as he left the ring. The Associated Press scored it 96-94 for Vera.

The win capped a tumultuous stretch for Chavez, who hadnt fought since Sept. 15, 2012, when he received his first career defeat in a thrilling decision against middle-weight king Sergio Martinez.

After serving a nine-month drug suspension, Chavez missed the original 168-pound contract limit for his comeback bout with Vera. The notorious boxing sci-on struggled just to get to the new 173-pound limit for Fridays weigh-in.

Vera (23-7) and his camp were furious with the verdict, feeling he outpointed Chavez with superior

activity and aggression in the 10-round bout. Vera landed 176 of his 734 punches - throwing more than twice as many as Chavez, who landed 125 of 328 - while also landing more power shots than Chavez, whose face was swollen and cut by the final bell.

This is the best performance of my career, Vera said. The weight was never an issue. The game plan was exactly what we did. I was never hurt during the fight.

Vera was the aggressor from the opening bell, chasing Chavez around the ring and throwing twice the volume of punches. Chavez, who wouldnt step on HBOs scale before the fight, consistently backed up against his smaller op-ponent.

But Chavez also landed his left hook consistently, setting up short right hands that turned Veras head.

The sixth round was a corker, with both fighters trading big shots. Vera appeared to be winning the seventh round, cutting Chavez on

the nose during a flurry against the ropes, but Chavez staggered him with a big left hook in the final seconds.

Chavez complained repeatedly about head butts and low blows by

Vera, who finished the final round aggressively and thrust his arms skyward at the final bell.

No matter the decision, Chavez showed some rust and conditioning issues in his first bout since losing

to Martinez. Chavez took a pound-ing in the first 11 rounds of that bout before staggering and nearly stopping Martinez in the 12th, pos-sibly falling a few seconds shy of an upset victory.

Tuas Beach or frequently called as Keramas Beach is very popular among the world surfers. Even, the beach located in the region of the arts has been well known as one of the best surf-ing spots since 2000. So, do not be surprised, if the water sport hobbyists both the local and foreign tourists are coming here and tested their capability on the black sandy beach.

Keramas Beach is located at Keramas vil-lage, Blahbatuh subdistrict, Gianyar, or about 8 km east of Denpasar and about 6 km from

the Gianyar town. To get there, visitors can get through Sanur which then passes Jalan Bypass Ida Bagus Mantra to the east. This beach also offers a really wonderful ambience.

Its nature remains pristine and has beautiful scenery because there are a wide overlay of green paddy fields and rows of palm trees lin-ing along the road to the beach. The panorama will turn more beautiful when watching the surfers in action on the waves with their surf board. On holidays, a number of local tourists mingle with foreign tourists to relax, sunbathe or just play around or fish.

During the dry season (Jun-Oct), the offshore wind would usually flow around 10 or 11 a.m. local time. When the waves were quite large, they would be very good for surfing until late afternoon. Meanwhile, during the period of November to May (rainy season), the sea water would be turbid be-cause of the river flows led directly to the beach.

Compared to the other beaches, Keramas Beach is like a newborn baby as a place to surf. On that account, Gianyar Government through the Tourism Agency is continuously introducing this destination through brochures or organizing various events.

Dutch rider Marianne Vos re-tained her womens road race title at the World Championships in Italy. The 2012 Olympic gold medallist, 26, won the 140km (86.2-mile) race around Tuscany in three hours and 44 minutes.

Vos claimed her third world title by crossing the line 15 seconds ahead of Swedens Emma Johansson, with Italys Rossella Ratto third.

Lizzie Armitstead, who won Olym-pic silver behind Vos last year, was the leading Briton in 19th place.

The 24-year-old, who said she would have to ride out out of her skin to win a medal, had been in contention for much of the race but fell away on the fourth of five hilly finishing circuits around Florence.

It was just so hard, I will look back a little disappointed, Armitstead told British Cycling.

If you were somebody that was go-ing to attack you had no chance to do it early because the course did for us, it was just so difficult. It was all physical. I just blew up.

Kipsang sets new world recordKeNyAN Wilson Kipsang has broken the

marathon world record by 15 seconds as he claimed the Berlin title on Sunday. The 31-year-old clocked a time of two hours three minutes 23 seconds to better the previous mark set by compatriot Pat-rick Makau two years ago.

T h a t was also in the Ger-man capital, when Makau ran 2:03:38. Fellow Kenyans Eliud Kipchoge (2:04:05) and Geoffrey Kipsang (2:06:26) finished second and third respectively in this years marathon.

Makau was not com-peting in the event after

withdrawing two weeks ago with a knee injury. Having trained specifically for breaking the world record in Berlin, Wilson Kipsang took control of the race in the final 10km, break-ing away from the leading pack as the tempo dropped.

Im very happy that I have won and broken the world record, Kipsang said. I was

    really inspired by [fellow Kenyan]

Paul Tergat when he broke the world record here 10 years ago and Im very happy that I was in a position to break the record on the same course.

His victory takes his total marathon wins to seven since competing in his first in Paris three years ago.

Kipsang won the London marathon last year and also claimed bronze in the marathon at last years Olympic Games.

The Berlin win was his first marathon victory this year. Despite being among the favourites, he only managed to finish fifth in the London event in April.

Five months after capturing a 20th English title, Manchester United is languishing in 12th place in the 20-team standings after losing 2-1 at home to West Bromwich Albion in the latest setback to hit David Moyes troubled first season in charge.

Amid its worst six-game start to a league season since 1989, United slipped eight points behind Arsenal after the London club beat Swansea 2-1 for an eighth straight away victory in the league.

The only solace for United on an action-packed day was neighbor Man-chester City enduring similar misery by sinking 3-2 at Aston Villa.

With the Manchester giants show-ing fluctuating form, their rivals from London are taking full advantage. Tottenham is two points behind in second after drawing 1-1 at home to third-place Chelsea in an entertaining match that saw Fernando Torres sent off for the visitors.

Im concerned after todays re-sult, but only because we didnt play well, said Moyes, whose team took another blow six days after losing 4-1 to City in the derby. But there are a lot of games to go and Ill try to put it right.

Even promoted teams Cardiff and Hull are above United after six games. Cardiff won its first away match of the season, 2-1 at Fulham, and Hull edged West Ham 1-0.

But another newcomer, Crystal Palace, lost 2-0 at Southampton, which is adding to the surprise factor this season by sitting in fourth place.

BARCELONA, Spain Atletico Madrids record-setting 1-0 win over Real Madrid brought an emphatic end to its crosstown rivals 14-year unbeaten league run in their Spanish capital derby on Saturday.

On-form Diego Costa struck in the 11th minute and not even Gareth Bale in his home debut for Madrid could help it rally. Atleticos big win came after Lionel Messi scored before being substituted due to injury to help Barce-lona win 2-0 at Almeria.

Barcelona and Atletico set club records by staying perfect through seven rounds to start the season, opening up a five-point gap over Madrid. Messi and Diego Costa have guided their teams to their milestones and lead the league with eight goals each.

We are having a great year and we have to keep it going, said Atleticos Jorge Koke Resurreccion, who set up Diego Costas goal. Diego Costa is in a spectacular moment. He has helped us a lot.

Bale, Madrids 100-million-euro man, went on at the start of the second half, finally playing in front of his new home fans after straining his left thigh while warming up before last weekends match.

Yet neither the Wales winger in 45 minutes nor Cristiano Ronaldo in 90 were able to target Atleticos goal.

Atletico was more aggressive and ran more. It wasnt our day, said Ronaldo. We have to understand that we need to improve. I played poorly and many of my teammates did so as well. Our coach had nothing to do with it. Its our fault.

Atleticos last league win against Madrid had come in 1999, and since then it had gone 23 games without a victory.

But Atleticos victory over Madrid in the same Santiago Bernabeu Stadium last May to claim the Copa del Rey had apparently given it the boost in confidence it needed to break its horrendous streak.

While Atletico squeaked out that cup win in extra time, Diego Simeones side simply outplayed Madrid on Saturday, creating many more shots and deploying a swarming defense that kept Madrid in check until the final min-utes.

Simeone pumped both fists on the final whistle as he left the dugout, deservedly satis-fied with his teams effort.

We can play better or worse, but our com-mitment to working hard is nonnegotiable, said Simeone. The team is above everything else. The economic power of Barcelona and Madrid is superior to ours. We give it our all in each game.

Diego Costa, who also scored in last seasons cup final, took the games sole goal when Filipe Luis stole the ball from Madrids Angel Di Maria and Koke placed a throughball for his goalscorer to coolly fire it in.

As the Brazilian forward soaked up the dismay of Madrids supporters, Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti turned away and slapped his leg in frustration.

We are not playing well. We have to solve this by having a better attitude, staying concen-trated, and playing with more speed and pace, said Ancelotti. Its true that five points behind Barcelona and Atletico isnt a little amount. But thats not the problem.

FRANKFURT, Germany Marco Reus and Robert Lewandowski scored twice each for Borussia Dortmund to rout 10-man Freiburg 5-0, while Bayern Munich labored past Wolfsburg 1-0 in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Bayer Leverkusen beat Hannover 2-0 as the trio of leaders opened a significant gap seven games into the season. Dortmund leads on goal difference over Bayern. Leverkusen was a point behind them, six ahead of Han-nover.

In other matches, Hoffenheim rallied from a two-goal deficit to draw 3-3 with Schalke, and Hertha also came from behind to beat Mainz 3-1. Mainz lost its fourth straight.

The change of coach paid off for Ham-burger SV, which twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt in Bert van Marwijks first match in charge. Wolfs-burgs run of futility in Munich extended to 17 matches the visitors have never won at Bayern and earned only one draw.

Wolfsburg massed its defense and Pep Guardiolas team struggled to find open-ings. In a game with few highlights, it was substitute Xherdan Shaqiri who launched Bayerns scoring move with his first action of the match. Shaquiri released Franck Ribery and Thomas Mueller knocked in his cross at the far post in the 63rd. It was Muellers third goal in two games, after he notched two in the midweek 4-1 win over Hannover in the German Cup.

Dortmund had a much easier time at home against still winless Freiburg, which lost de-fender Fallou Diagne to a red card in the 45th for a last-man foul on Lewandowski.

Freiburg goalkeeper Oliver Baumann parried a long-range shot, Lewandowski pounced on the rebound, Baumann blocked

again but Reus was there to lift the ball over the goalie for Dortmunds lead in the 35th. Reus converted the penalty after Diagnes foul to double the lead.

Reus supplied the pass for Lewandowskis first goal. The striker shook off two defenders and chipped the ball over Baumann.

Lewandowski made it 4-0 with his sixth goal of the season, connecting with a square pass at the far post. Jakub Blaszczykowski completed the scoring in the 79th.

In Leverkusen, Sidney Sam and Simon Rolfes combined to secure Leverkusens victory. With six wins in seven games, Le-verkusen is off to the best start in the clubs history. Leverkusen next plays Bayern.

Sam sent a free kick into the box and Rolfes rose to head home in the 23rd, before Sam slotted home after a through ball from Rolfes in the 37th.

The most entertaining match was Hoffen-heims comeback against Schalke. Schalke has never won at Hoffenheim and stayed true to the tradition despite a 3-1 lead.

Kevin-Prince Boateng scored in the third minute for Schalke, firing home from the middle of the box after an inside pass form Max Meyer. Joel Maltip headed in a free kick from Jefferson Farfan 10 minutes later to double the lead, before a mistake by Schalkes defense allowed Athony Modest to cut the deficit with his sixth goal of the season.

Marco Hoegers solo run produced Schal-kes third in the 40th. Dennis Aogo, who had released Hoeger, tripped Kevin Volland to give away a penalty in the 48th and Ro-berto Firmino converted to start Hoffenheims comeback.

The equalizer came when David Ambra-ham drilled the ball over the wall with a free kick in the 61st and Firmino hit the underside of the crossbar late in the match as Hoffen-heim nearly won the match.

BARCELONA, Spain Barcelona says Lionel Messi will be sidelined for two to three weeks with an injury to his right leg, ruling him out of Tuesdays Champions League match at Celtic.

Messi hurt a muscle in his right thigh after scoring to help Barcelona win 2-0 at Almeria on Saturday.

Messi missed the second game of the season after bruising his left thigh. The Argentina forward also missed several games at the end of last season with a right hamstring pull.

In addition to the Celtic match, he will also miss two Spanish league games against Valladolid and Osasuna.

Ramsey, who has scored eight goals in nine matches this season. Weve had a lot of injuries recently but weve managed to dig in and put a load of wins together and hopefully now we get players back and were in with a shout (of winning the title).

West Brom fully deserved its first win at United in 35 years, with Saido Berahino clinching victory with a 67th-minute strike from the edge of the box that finished off a flowing team move.

Wayne Rooneys free kick score canceled out Morgan Amalfitanos stylish solo goal, but a United side missing several regular first-team stars with a Champions League match at Shakhtar Donetsk in mind struggled throughout. Moyes team hasnt scored from open play since the first

day of the season.City was toasting derby glory last

weekend, but was brought to earth by the loss at Villa to drop to fifth.

City twice threw away the lead given by Yaya Toure and Edin Dzeko before Andreas Weimann struck Villas winner to leave the visitors without an away win this season.

We played very well and deserved to win, but in five minutes (when Villa scored twice) we threw away everything good we did in the rest of the match, City manager Manuel Pellegrini said. The way we lost this game was incredible.

Tottenham showed it should be held up as a genuine title contender by holding Chelsea to a draw at White Hart Lane, although it will be disap-pointed the team couldnt kick on after Gylfi Sigurdsson opened the scoring in the first half.
