Dear Buyer,

We wanted to share with you the reasons why we do love our home so much! There is so much we could say and want to tell you, but we decided we would choose our top ten and let you “count the ways!”

First Impression: The first time we walked through the foyer and entered the doorway of the living room, we were swept away by the grand views through the floor to ceiling, wall to wall window looking out onto the roses, the blue stone patio, the massive shade tree, and perennial gardens. It looked like a photograph in a picture book of the perfect setting for family life. We had searched and searched for a new home to accommodate our growing family and lifestyle, and from the first moment of gazing through that window-scape, we felt sure we had found it.

Sunlight: The southern exposure windows and French doors that line and surround all of the south wall expanse of the entire home brought constant sunlight to our lives, even during the days of deepest winter. Sun floods the Master Bedroom suite from the first moments of dawn, and in springtime, we can see the flowering pink magnolia blooms through our over-sized wall-to-wall bedroom window. In fact, one of the things we love most about our home is the sunlight that fills all of the rooms from the upstairs down.

Spacious Living: The openness of the floor plan and the expansive rooms provided a wonderful backdrop for our busy lives. We all had plenty of personal space, even during those teen-age and home from college years, to have our own personal time and space for studying, media, reading, visiting with friends, exercising or working from home.

Cozy Family Life: Although we had lots of space for every family member, we never felt isolated from one another. We always had lots of choices for gathering together, from the family room to the kitchen table, to the dining room dinners, to the living room, to entertaining in the den. We had ample opportunity to be together as a large family and enjoy one another, as well as socialize with friends.

Landscape and Trees: There must be more than one hundred trees on the property, from the graceful Austrian pines that line the entry to the driveway, to the flowering pears and crabapples, to the blue spruce, evergreen and pine tress, plus many more. The foliage of the changing seasons is a living “painting” that changes before our eyes. Three rose gardens surround the southern wall. Their colorful blooms punctuate the blue slate stone patio that leads from many of the French doors. This space was our setting for outdoor family gatherings from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and all of the special summer weekends in-between. With ample room for gathering, grilling, and a fire-pit, we have many memories of summer days spent under the wide expanse of the grand shade tree, which held the double sized swing on one side and the hammock on the other.

Botanical Garden: From the time we moved in, my youngest child has always said, “We live in our own botanical garden! “Every Prom our home was the starting point for all of the prom parties as everyone wanted to take the pictures with the dozen flowering pears in bloom lining the front door and driveway. Some years we had as many as 20 couples and their parents all wanting to start the afternoon only at our home. Every year the pear tree blossoms arrived right on time to host the event. In the back, we had the flowering crabapples with their own unique colors and scents showering us with beautiful pictures for graduation, and then framing the first day of school pictures in the fall. The wild birds are constant companions in the early spring and late fall as they migrate – the berries of the dozens of crabapple and pear trees make this a regular “stop-over” for unique bird watching twice a year.

Entertaining: Those same areas were wonderful for adult social entertaining as well as childhood play dates, teen parties, and home from college get-togethers. We have so many memories of special events: pre-prom, pre-dance, the sweet sixteen party under a giant tent in the back yard, graduation parties and Fourth of July celebrations. Most of all, for many years, our home was the venue for business client entertaining, where more than one hundred of our closest clients, neighbors and guests gathered for an in-home Holiday party. The open flow of our home facilitated a large crowd, with plenty of space not only to be graciously entertained, but also to enjoy being all together. The openness of the space from the den at the far eastern corner of the house through the living, dining and kitchen area to the family room at the west, gave everyone lots of room to move about yet feel together.

Elegant, unique Architectural detail: We enjoy the beauty and grace of living in so many rooms with high ceilings, special windows, and unique touches everywhere. We love all of the “little touches,” such as the special moldings, the built in linen closet cabinets, the walk-in closets, the bathroom inside each bedroom, the mural painting in the master bath, and the many, many shelves and built-ins. We each have our favorite room: for me, it is the library, for another the den, for another the family room – even our dear out of town friends who visit often have their favorite rooms and never want to leave!

Privacy in the midst of convenience: When we step outside, we always feel that we are alone in our own corner of the world. We can sit outside and enjoy all of the landscape and privacy, and yet we are only steps from everything else we want to do. It was so comfortable for all of us to be able to walk to town and to the train, and for the children to walk to St. Mary’s to school, and to meet up with their friends who could also walk to Deerpath or to the Day School. During those pre-driving high school years, it was also such an advantage for them to be able to walk to town to meet up with friends to hang out at the library, or any of the many coffee shops, cafes and restaurants, not needing a parent to “drive them to town.”

Beautiful Retreat: Our life here has been full and comfortable, gracious and elegant, everything and more than we could have imagined that first time we walked through the foyer and gazed at the beautiful landscape through the window. It is not easy to think of leaving this home, but we wish for another family to experience all of the “wonderful life” we have enjoyed here.

I could easily go on with another ten reasons, but I think you can tell that we really do love our home!
