Charitable Gift Annuities Would you like a safe and secure way of providing financial support to your aging parents? Do you feel it is time to “give back”. If so, a charitable gift annuity (CGA) may be just the solution. A CGA can provide payments to your aging parents now and a gift to their parish later. It will provide you both with peace of mind and also an income tax deduction. For more information about making a gift, please call the Theresa Lynch, Planned Giving Manager, at (973) 497-4042 or [email protected].

Wisdom of the Saints Let us love the one who offends us since this great God has not ceased to love us even though we have offended Him very much. Thus the Lord is right in wanting all to pardon the wrongs done to them.

—St. Teresa of Avila Therefore once for all this short command is given to you. “Love and do as you will.” If you keep silent, keep silent by love; if you speak, speak by love; if you correct, correct by love; if you pardon, pardon by love: let love be rooted in you, and from the root nothing but good can grow.

—St. Augustine

The Bread and Wine offered at the Mass this week is donated in memory of Theresa Palifrone.

The Sanctuary Light is donated in memory of Nicholas Gallo.

It is with a very heavy heart that I leave Holy Trini-ty after fifty-one years. Fifty-one of the happiest years of my 77 years in religious life. My memories of Holy Trinity will never fade. To minister to all you good peo-ple of Holy Trinity has been a special gift to me. I would like to thank each

and every one of you for your kindness and generosity to me but that would be impossible. I am grateful to all of you for your presence at our great par-ish gala—that was some party! Also for the wonderful farewell after Sunday Mass—that was a treat. Students that I hadn’t seen for years came to say good-bye. I have served with many good priests through the years—Fr. Paul was one of the best! We will pray for one another. I love you. God bless you all, Sr. Emily, SC

One of my fondest memories as a child and young man was working with my father. He is a plumber though retired now, but from as early as I can remember, I was his gofer, that is, go for this, go for that, but eventually I learned to sweat a pipe, swing a hammer, and put up dry wall. My Dad is an excellent handy-man. Through high school and college I washed dishes in a din-er, did lawn maintenance, delivered Wise potato chips, thus my boss’s nickname, the Wise Guy and worked the counter at my Mom’s snack bar in the bowling alley. At Seton Hall I was a clerk in the financial aid office and sexton at the chapel. And after college I taught math and religion at LaSalle Military Acad-emy before entering the Seminary. All of my experiences were of benefit to my character and lifted my soul, knowing that the goodness of work benefits no only me but also the common good of my community and family. Work is an essential part of what it means to be human and it has both natural and spiritual benefits. Even from the beginning Adam ad Eve enjoyed their time in the Garden that they cultivat-ed. Work only became a burden after the fall. Below listen to Pope Francis’ catechesis on work: (Pope Francis continues his) catechesis today by reflecting on work, which complements our moments of celebration and which is also a part of God’s creative design. Through work, the family is cared for and children are provided with a dignified life. So too the common good is served, as witnessed by the example of so many fathers and mothers who teach their chil-dren the value of work for family life and society. The Scrip-tures speak of this in the Holy Family, describing Jesus as the son of a carpenter and a carpenter himself. As Christians we know that work and the spiritual life are not opposed, but in har-mony, as work expresses the dignity of the person, created in God’s image. When we engage in work, we share in creation by caring for the earth and cultivating it. If, however, we reduce work to profit and disregard its effects on humanity and the world, the environment and our lives suffer. This especially hurts the poor and families. God has given Christian families the challenge and mission to make present the foundations of his creation: a true understanding of the identity of man and woman and the bond they share, their call to bring children into the world, and the gift of work in making the world ever more fruit-ful and hospitable. May God help us to embrace this call in joy and hope, especially amidst the many challenges we face today. (August 19, 2015, general Audience, Vatican City.)

As the curtain rises, Hannah hesitantly steps onto the stage for her theatrical debut in college. Yet before she can utter her first lines, Hannah-unscripted-collapses in front of the stunned audience. After countless medical tests, all signs point to one underlying factor: Hannah's difficult birth. This revela-tion is nothing compared to what she then learns from her par-ents: she was actually adopted ... after a failed abortion at-tempt. Bewildered, angered, and confused, Hannah turns for support to Jason, her oldest friend. Encouraged by his adven-turous spirit, Hannah joins his group of friends on a Spring Break road trip, embarking on a journey to discover her hidden past ... and find hope for her unknown future. In the midst of her incredible journey, Hannah learns that every life is beauti-ful.
