Charitable Gift Annuities Making a significant gift to your parish can increase your bot-tom line! By making a gift for a charitable gift annuity, you receive an income tax deduction and annuity payments for life. Plus, part of each payment is tax-free. Learn more about this wonderful opportunity by contacting Theresa Lynch, Planned Giving Manager, Archdiocese of Newark at (973) 497-4042 or by email at [email protected].

The Bread & Wine offered at the Masses this week are donated

in Memory of Walter Vasquez.

Panning for Gold One great way to raise money for the renovations is to collect Gold and Sil-ver and other precious metals. Gold is now worth $1280 per troy ounce (ozt) and silver is $15 per ozt. Perhaps you have that mangled chain or the wid-owed earring, donate it to the renovation. Maybe you have some sterling silverware pieces, an old ring or silver coins that just doesn't fit your style or are just taking up space in the draw-er, donate it. I can take it to a reputable dealer and get top dollar. It’s a painless way of giving and it really goes to a good cause. Simply bring your old gold, silver and coins to the rectory or after Mass give it to me. I can write a receipt for tax purposes if you like.

Thank you for your consideration, Fr. Paul.

What greater or better gift can we offer the repub-lic than to teach and instruct our youth?      —Cicero

White Supremacy. Antifa. These are terms for extremist groups in the United States. As I look around I am frightened by all of this extremism. Why does it exist in a country of freedom and prosper-ity? I dare to say it is because of the decline in faith in Jesus Christ, and more generally in something greater than ourselves. Even if people looked upon the nation or their family as something to serve it would be a more well-ordered and happy place. But ever since the drifting away from belief in God, society has devolved into selfishness, egoism, licentiousness, death (abortion and euthana-sia), and accumulation of wealth (have you noticed all of the stor-age building being erected?). Our “culture” has decayed into sub-cultures, clicks, and even extremist groups like Aryan Nation, An-tifa (antifascists), and Garden State Equality. Yet what is looked upon as extreme are devout Christians, including Catholics. Be-cause of our stance on sexual morality – we are labeled homopho-bic, intolerant and hateful. Because of our belief that life is sacred from the womb to the tomb, we are accused of misogyny and against human rights. Remember, sexual norms and the unlawful-ness of abortion were universally upheld either legally or culturally 50 years ago. It is our culture that has changed. Culture comes from the word cultus meaning worship. Therefore culture genuinely arises out of a community’s worship of the Supreme Deity. Ever since the En-lightenment Period began to make faith strictly a personal act, the belief in God as waned. This belief most sharply distinguished itself with the French revolution and in the early 20th century with the rise of Nazism and Communism which both denied God and exalted man. The Nazis practiced eugenics (the pure race) and the Communists saw man as perfectible in and of himself so that man no longer needs religion and God but rather he can trust human ideas and the state. I find it ironic that even though the Nazis were defeated and Communism fell in the USSR and its satellites, their ideologies have endured and are now touted as superior to good religion and sound politics and economics. Eugenics is on the rise with genetic engineering, the aborting of people with genetic anomalies, and the elimination of people suffering from disease. Communism, aka socialism, is popular among the young with the encouragement of their college professors, Bernie Sanders, Alexan-dra Ocasio Cortez and others who extoll the “virtues” of the state being involved and even controlling our lives. With more and more young people declaring their atheism or no religion (Nones), [A recent survey found that on 30% of young people find God/religion important as opposed to 70% 30 years ago] our culture is dying for without proper worship of a loving and personal God, culture becomes a culture of death. If you watch carefully the programs the young are watching they are about death – vampires, suicide, violence, murder, zombies, etc. Even the news is all about terror, natural disasters, wars, violence in our streets, sexual offenses, and school shootings. It just doesn’t stop. And what is society’s response? Control guns, put sex offends on life time lists, etc. This is all Band-Aids. What people need is true religion. One in which we love and adore a God who is Love and who personally knows us because he has created us and redeemed us by his cross. In response to this Love we strive to live lives that are morally straight, to love our neighbors and even our enemies, and to work for the common good so that our culture is one of life and the freedom to love and become fully the human beings God created us to be. Pax Christi, Fr. Paul

Making Those Funeral Arrangements Planning or even thinking about one’s own funeral is un-pleasant and therefore something we tend to push far out of our minds. When the time finally comes it leaves the family stressed and overwhelmed by all the decisions they must make. You can relieve some of this stress for your loved ones by planning your Funeral Liturgy (Mass of Christian Burial). Lynn Berhalter would like to assist you in choosing the Scrip-tures to be read at your funeral Mass according to the archdi-ocesan guidelines. She can also help you choose the hymns that will add to the solemnity of your Mass. This is simple to do and it helps fulfill your wishes and eases your family’s bur-den. Make an appointment to see Lynn at the rectory to get started. Your plans will be kept on file at Holy Trinity Church and may be amended anytime you wish. Planning ahead ensures your family that the readings and music you desired are carried out and they need not worry. It is a beautiful final gesture, a gift to those who grieve. Call 201-343-5170 now and make your appointment.
