Life with Christ: The Creed The Holy Spirit, The Lord the Giver of Life

“I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT” 742 "Because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, 'Abba! Father!"' (Gal 4:6). 743 From the beginning to the end of time, whenever God sends his Son, he always sends his Spirit: their mission is conjoined and inseparable. 744 In the fullness of time the Holy Spirit completes in Mary all the preparations for Christ's coming among the People of God. By the action of the Holy Spirit in her, the Father gives the world Emmanuel "God-with-us" (Mt 1:23). 745 The Son of God was consecrated as Christ (Messiah) by the anointing of the Holy Spirit at his Incarnation (Ps 2:6-7). 746 By his Death and his Resurrection, Jesus is constituted in glory as Lord and Christ (Acts 2:36). From his fullness, he poured out the Holy Spirit on the apostles and the Church. 747 The Holy Spirit, whom Christ the head pours out on his members, builds, animates, and sanctifies the Church. She is the sacrament of the Holy Trinity's communion with men.

C : ’ *Over the centuries many mal-intentioned Christians would exploit this to justify their prejudice and persecution of the Jewish people. In the Gospels, “Jews” refers to those who were from Judea. Jesus was a Jew as well as Judas Iscariot, but St. Paul was a Benjaminite, St. Mat-thew a Levite and in general most of the Apostles were Galileans. Lat-er the term “Jew” or “Jewish” would refer to all those who wor-shipped the God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob (YHWH or Elohim).

Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Jesus Christ

Corpus Christi Sunday Sunday, June 3, 2018

Immediately following the 12:30 PM we will have the Corpus Christ Procession through the neighborhood.

First Altar 73 Maple Avenue Second Altar 16 Maple Avenue Third Altar 79 Clinton Place Fourth Altar Pangborn & Clinton Place

Join us as we follow Christ through the streets. The Procession is a walking with the L . It is itself an element of the Eucha-ristic celebration, one dimension of the Eucharistic event. The L who has become our Bread is thus showing us the way; He leads us.

T rinity; One God, Three Persons, Undivided Unity In the Mass Instruction the priest is instructed to make a slight bow of the head each time certain

names are mentioned: particularly the name of the saint of the day, the name of the Virgin Mary, the name of Jesus and finally the name of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The invocation of God in the Trinitarian formula is sacred and profound. This tri-une description of our God is unique and often misunderstood. It describes a profound relationship within the Godhead. Moslems and Jews see it as polygamy. The ancient Romans thought it was atheistic to have only 3 gods, and the Mormons see each divine Person as a distinct god. Many years ago, in the Archdiocese of Boston a pro-gressive thinking priest decided that he would baptize the chil-dren in the name of the Creator, the Redeemer and the Sanctifi-er! While none of these titles are heretical, they merely de-scribed attributes of God and not the Divine relationship be-tween the 3 Persons of the 1 God. Seeing that our Lord Jesus commanded that we baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, the Archbishop had no choice but to recognize those baptisms as invalid and invite the chil-dren back to be validly baptized. In the Gospels, we hear often of the Three Divine Per-sons but in disparate verses. Jesus says he and the Father are one. Another time he says he must ascend to his Father and he will send the Holy Spirit. It is not until his ascension that Jesus commands us to go and baptize in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. God’s full name is revealed. To-day we celebrate this great mystery. God is infinite love. The love that the Father has for the Son is only matched by its own infinitude. So this eternal infinite love itself is a Person of God, that is the Holy Spirit. As Christ’s disciples we then need to live this Love. In our own relationships as members of Christ’s body we must know this love so that ultimately we come to share this love in God. As St. Peter said, Christians have become “partakers of the divine nature” (2 Pet. 1:4) and St. Athanasius affirmed, “For the Son of God became man so that we might become God.”

Ad multos annos vivat TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION One of the great treasures of the Eastern tradition is the icon of the Holy Trinity created by the Russian icono-grapher Andrei Rublev in the 1400s. The Trinity is sym-bolized by the three travelers to the tent of Abraham and Sarah. They are seated at a table blessing a cup of wine, under the oak of Mamre. If you look closely, you will see a sacrificed calf in the chalice, reminding the viewer of the cross. The table, prepared for eating and tilted toward the viewer, is an invitation to the Eucharist. From left to right, each figure is keyed to a person of the Trinity. Like all icons, this image is theology in art. The persons are equal in proportion and dignity, they all carry staffs to symbolize their power, and are shown with golden wings and halos. Today, the best place to see Rublev’s work is the Holy Trinity Cathedral, at the heart of the vast Holy Trinity monastery about an hour from Moscow. After decades of persecution, it is now once again a living monastery, a world heritage site, and the spiritual home of Russian Or-thodoxy. A Google visit is highly recommended today!
