DESCRIPTIONIn this workshop, we will create purpose statements for our network through writing, speed dating, and making. We will begin by jotting down ideas that will be visualized during dates. We will refine writing in response to what is made.

DEFINITION OF METHODS

PURPOSE STATEMENTA declaration of intent that provides clarity, focus, and inspiration.

SPEED DATINGA series of consecutive dates to quickly discuss and exchange ideas with various people

RAPID MODELING & DIAGRAMMINGThe visualization of ideas, in 3D or 2D form, using basic everyday materials.

It is a method which should be quick and intuitive and should function as a way to express and discuss concepts.

BEFORE THE WORKSHOP

Gather Materials

Gather a few modeling and diagramming supplies from around your house or studio. These wil be used for modeling during your speed date. Suggested items include:

+ paper+ markers+ tape+ tinfoil+ etc.

Skype Setup

+ Sign into Skype

+ Check your schedule to find your dates and their Skype User Names

+ Add User Names of your speed dates to your Contacts in Skype

Before you start the workshop you must complete a draft of three questions which will help you create a purpose statement.

THE THREE QUICK WRITING QUESTIONS ARE:

This task must be completed prior to your speed dates, so you can share them during your speed dates.

And remember to be creative and concise with your responses!

DURING THE WORKSHOP

The Speed Date Process

At your designated Skype date time you should initiate a video Skype call with your first date.

During each speed date you should follow these three steps:

On each date you should share your the matching response from your quick writing exercise for the question

On Date A share your response A. What does our network do?

On Date B share your response B. How does our network do it?

On Date C share your response C. Why does our network matter?

After sharing your responses, interpret your date’s quick writing response by using your household materials to diagram and model.

Discuss what you made and also look at what they made and take notes.
