The trailer cuts in like a video recording would, which is part of an editing inset.We are then met with the person with the camera saying Say hi to the camera Katie this end of this is edited to kind of echo as it takes us back to a flashback/ forward of the first film (if youve seen it) which lets us know in relation of the characters who is who. It is a reminder of how the last movie ended and lets us know it will be going backwards in time to when the main characters from the first were little.A wipe is used to again show a pervious part of the second film.Wide shot with dates, time and the year, lets the audience know,they havent seen it before that its going to be a recording type of movie this is more terrifying because people believe that the camera can see more of the paranormal side of life.The recording fuzz is seen again and then suddenly the non-diegetic noise of a camcorder would makes stops and the inset goes black and fades back in. this is to tell the audience that have gone back to the original 1988 video recording. Katie, the little child is on a close up shot and shows that shes looking a bit demented and scary when he asks the girl to give him a wave, whilst this is happening the fuzz and the inset comes back slightly. This suggests that she has some sort of paranormal energy around her that is effecting the camera. 3. As the woman gets dragged a back inset is used as well as the diegetic sound of the woman screaming and the inset of the fuzzy camera screen noise (non-diegetic) another inset of what a TV does when it is out of tune is shown, this suggests to the audience that have not watched the other movies that it didnt end well for this character. It is also quite jumpy therefore making the audience terrified. then go back into when they were younger, suggesting the storyline is going to be how it all started. A zoom in is used whilst the picture fades into back. Diegetic fuzzing sound whilst we are shown a close up with strange framing of one of the girls lighting a candle.Fuzzy inset, then its editied into night mode (camcorder) the close up of the girls face makes us as an audience feel sorry for what the girl is experiencing at that moment in time. She is terrified of what is currently happening to her. 5. After this it fades into black inset with text appearing, the non-diegetic music then echos again.Another inset, special edit which then takes us again back to the previous movie with a little non diegetic fuzz indicating it has gone back. This movies is number 2, showing the scene of Katie holding a baby. Those who have watched the other films know what has gone on whereas it leads the audience who havent to go and maybe watch the other before watching this one a clever tactic to increase their viewing rates of the other released movies.Voiceover the more we paid attention to it this then snaps back to when they were younger. Mid shot of the 2 girls, scary sudden a flickering fuzziness to keep the audience on edge.Black inset Voiceover the worse it got fuzzing inset, followed by a diegetic screaming of a female. A close up of a female them pops up out of nowhere, looking possessed this is definitely used to make the audience scared or terrified. Fuzzy insets go wild again like the paranormal interference of what we have just seen. 6. We then straight cut straight into a close up of one of the sisters setting up the camera in the bath room. This suggests to the audience that they are doing something that they shouldnt be doing. After this we then see the girls looking into the mirror about to do bloody mary. This automatically confirms to the audience that doing this is going to go very wrong and could result in a lot more harsh paranormal activity for the girls. Lights get turned out, indicating that something is about to happen, keeps the audience on edge. The girls then recite the Blood Mary chant We then hear slight non diegetic heart palpitations and then the other sister jokingly lights up the torch and screams into it.Frantic diegetic screaming occurs. Goes to black again as the girl turns off the property of the torch.Girls exit the room causing the light to come through into the bath room, a silhouette of an adult figure is then standing to the side of the camera. Heart palpitations then start slightly again and a screeching non diegetic sound occurs to emphasise the severity of what the girls have just summoned. Goes into a black inset with the non-diegetic sound still creepily playing. Title of the movie then stands out to you.
