Christmas, Happy New Year and Happy Pongal. I thank you allwhole heartedly for electing me and installed me as the 66th StatePresident of prestigious. IMA Tamil Nadu State Branch.

The 74th State Annual Conference held at Erode on 14th & 15th December 2019, I takethis opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your participationand contribution. My sincere thanks to the entire organizing team ofErode TIMACON 2019 headed by Dr. P. Jayanthkumar OrganizingChairman & Dr. Mailer Chakravarthi Organizing Secretary. I extendmy thanks to National President Elect Dr. Rajan Sharma and Immediate.Past National President Dr. Ravi Wankhedhar for their participation atthe installation ceremony. The conference was inaurgurated by theformer Chief Justice of Supreme Court of India and former Governorof Kerala Honourable Justice Thiru. P. Sathasivam. I feel it is a greathonour. I thank Dr. T. S. Swathi Rethnavathi, Director of Medical andRural Health Services and Dr. G. S. Gomathi, Joint Director of Medicaland Rural Health Services for having participated as Guests of Honour.

I sincerely thank immediate past president Dr. S. Kanagasabhapathy,Immediate Past State Secretary, Dr. B. Sridhar, Treasurer. Dr. S.

Palanivelrajan for their commitment and contribution to the welfare of our members. Theyhave done a commendable job, during the difficult and turbulent period and I hope they willcontinue their services to our IMA.

I expect and I wish my new team especially Dr. A. K. Ravikumar, State Secretary, Dr NR T Thyagarajan treasurer, Dr. G. Kothanda Raman, Dr. K. Rajasekar, Dr. M Subramanian,Dr. P. Lenin Vice Presidents would give all the efforts sincerely to uplift IMA TNSB togreater hights. In this juncture I seek everybody’s support.

I request all the branches to complete the election process within a month and send thenew office bearers list at the earliest to the state office for effective communication.

This year we have rolled out four projects namely CODE – Hear the Ear, CongenitalDeafness detection in Early age, Earthly - Early detection of thyroid disorders in young,Health and Hygiene – Clubs in schools, IMA Task Force. I expect the branches to implementand gain the good relationship with the patients and public. The details would be sent to youfrom State office.Membership:

We are No.2 in the country. We need to induct more members especially Women Doctorsand Junior Doctors. We have envisaged plans for this.

We also have launched Patient redressal forum and Disciplinary committee.All the standing committees are asked to start their effective work immediately. This

would be reviewed periodically.Other ongoing issues like CEA, Biomedical waste disposable, Solidwaste Management

We would like to thank everyone for electing our teamto take care of AMS TNSB for 2 years.

Our plans would be:1. To increase the membership of AMS to from 1200 to 2000.2. To liaise with Professional Speciality associations like CSI, ASI,

API, IOA and other organisations and have meaningfulcollaborations with them for imparting skills program andworkshops for IMA members and to reach out to all the medicalcolleges scientific societies and organise programs in all medicalcolleges.

3. To request the individual local branch President and Secretariesto conduct regular AMS programs at branch level and dedicateat least 5 to 10 mins for skills program or rapidfire discussion ona common topic and to open AMS chapters in all major branchesin Tamil Nadu.

4. We have planned to divide the entire state into four zones as perIMA TNSB norms and conduct zonal meet in each zone.

5. We have identified more than 50 skills that can be imparted tothe Interns and Junior doctors and would try to organise specialmeetings at the local branch level and to have branch level andZonal level Quiz in association with Junior Doctors Network.

6. We have identified more than 50 topics at every specialty levels-preclinical / para clinical / clinical both broad specialty and superspecialty and have more hands on workshop / CME at the localbranch level and convey the message to all doctors throughmessage or email.

7. Various digital initiatives (planning stage): We will have repository– of important procedures / diagnostic / surgeries which can beseen by all doctors. You tube channel – exclusive for the IMAdoctors for their updating of scientific content shall be created.

We will try our level best to do these programs over a span of 24months with the cooperation of State leaders and seniors and withthe support of individual Branch office bearers.

Started with the lofty goal of helping the small and medium hospitalsacross Tamil Nadu by the father of NHB Dr. VVR, the board has seentremendous growth thanks to the hard work put in by the successive officebearers of the wing. Today NHB can feel proud that it's in a position tonegotiate with everyone including our state government.

We congratulate the outgoing team for the excellent work they havedone especially in relation to Minimum wages and insurance. We promise tocarry the good work done without any change.

At the same time we have set ourselves certain goals which we would liketo share with you all. We herewith present the thrust areas we would like towork on THRUST AREAS.1. To carry forward the good work of the previous team especially Minimum

wages review. The new team will extend all help in this regard.2. Insurance - To go through the Delhi court verdict which has said that

taking treatment is patient's prerogative.3. CEA- To engage government in removing niggles with the cooperation

of state office.4. License - To ask for a simpler list and a single window.5. Protection force-As suggested by the state President. Write to Members-

may even conduct a state level meeting in this regard.6. Engage TNERC in getting a better tariff for our Hospitals:

a) Lower than the current HT Tariff III for Hospitals with less than 100beds; b) Single room clinics, clinics attached to residence and day carecentres to be put under domestic tariff; c) Concession tariff for Hospitalsfor the first five years of operations.

7. Cluster branch conclave - Conduct NHB meeting with a small cluster ofneighborhood branches. State and NHB leaders will have a one to onediscussion with the Members having particular problems and help themfind a solution. The meeting will be more of a half-day workshop withoutfanfare and will be more of panel discussions, reducing the financialburden of the host branch.

8. Single topic analysis meeting - State level meeting with discussion on asingle topic for example insurance inviting doyens of the field.

9. Bringing NHB Members into the fold of FSS and PPLSS- encourageschemes office bearers to address the NHB Members.

10. Increase in Membership by interacting with branch office bearers- in democracy numbers isstrength.

11. Get a separate pancard for the wing and streamline the accounts.We take this opportunity to wish the new team in the state office, Dr. C. N. Raja, as President,Dr. A. K. In viewof the increased deaths among our membersfrom 60 to more than 70 a year, we have toraise AFC (i.e. the yearly premium) toRs.14,000/- a year from 2020. Pleaseremember that amount paid by you isdistributed to the family of our FSS memberson their demise, in that year itself. It is reallya great concern that death rate of ourmembers is increasing. That too among theyounger members; more so - sudden deaths.So we request all IMA members to join FSSto have their families secured financially.

As said in the previous issue, HealthBenefit Scheme for our senior membersabove the age of 80 is on.
