Kramer family to re-tire after a remarkable 70 years of service Finning expands to create growth opportunities and benefits for customers and employ-ees Tony de Sousa named executive to lead Finnings Saskatchewan operations Finning International Inc., a Canadian company and Caterpillars largest heavy equipment dealership glob-ally, today announced it has reached an agreement to purchase the operating assets of the Cat dealer-ship of Kramer Ltd. for ap-proximately $230 million, subject to working capi-tal adjustments. In 2014, the acquired dealership business generated ap-proximately $275 million in revenue. Finning will become the approved Cat dealer in Saskatchewan in July of this year, subject to customary closing condi-tions. After a remarkable 70 years of service in Sas-katchewan, the Kramer family has decided to retire from the equipment dealer-

ship business. This acquisi-tion combines complemen-tary capabilities, customer bases and highly skilled employees across Finnings territory in British Colum-bia, Alberta, Yukon, North-west Territories and part of Nunavut with Kramers presence in Saskatchewan. The two companies already share common customers who operate across these adjacent territories and will benefit from the continu-ity and support of a single dealer. Customers will also benefit from improved equipment and parts avail-ability, world-class product support and access to Fin-nings extensive branch network of 50 locations. For Finning, Saskatch-ewan is a highly attractive growth opportunity that diversifies its revenue base into sectors such as potash and uranium. The acquisi-tion will be funded with cash and will be immedi-ately accretive to earnings per share. Joining Finning is a talented and dedicated

team of 475 Kramer em-ployees with a deep under-standing of the local mar-ket and well-established customer relationships throughout the province at parts, sales and service lo-cations in Estevan, Kinder-sley, Battleford, Regina, Saskatoon, Swift Current and Tisdale in addition to Cat Rental Stores in Regina and Saskatoon. Tony de Sousa has been named the executive to lead Finning Saskatchewan. He will be based in the Saskatchewan headquarters, which will remain in Regina. Tony has been with Finning for 39 years and has extensive se-nior leadership experience in sales, service and opera-tions. Tony and his family will move from Edmonton to Regina.

Recently introduced legislation to encourage the use of remanufactured parts in federal vehicles is applauded by Bendix Com-mercial Vehicle Systems LLC, which supports re-manufactured parts for the cost, environmental, and performance advantages they offer.

S. 565, introduced in the U.S. Senate on Febru-ary 25, and its compan-ion legislation, H.R. 1613, introduced in the House on March 25, encourage federal agencies to use re-manufactured automobile parts to maintain federally owned vehicles if doing so would reduce costs with-out delaying the return of vehicles to service, or re-ducing the quality of vehi-cle performance. A reman-ufactured part is defined as a part disassembled, in-spected, and reassembled with individual compo-nents repaired or replaced in a factory to original specifications. Both bipar-tisan pieces of legislation

are titled Federal Vehicle Repair Cost Savings Act of 2015. S. 565 is sponsored by Senators Gary Peters (D-Michigan), James Lankford (ROklahoma), and Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), while H.R. 1613 is sponsored by Rep-resentatives Bill Huizenga (R-Michigan) and Brad Ashford (D-Nebraska).

Were pleased to see our government leaders take these actions around remanufactured parts. Re-manufactured components help reduce replacement costs and extend vehicle life all while retaining the quality of original equip-ment parts and reducing environmental impact, said Henry Foxx, Bendix Director of Remanufactur-ing. In the commercial vehicle industry, increas-ing numbers of fleets, tech-nicians, and drivers are turning to remanufactured parts as an alternative to new parts and to low-cost and potentially unsafe knockoffs. The government can reap the same benefits

offered by remanufactured components.

Bendix, the North Amer-ican leader in the develop-ment and manufacture of leading-edge active safety and braking system tech-nologies for commercial vehicles, has been a reman-ufacturing leader for nearly 40 years. Remanufactured components from Ben-dix include brake shoes, valves, air dryers, com-pressors, and electronics. In 2011, Bendix founded a business unit dedicated to remanufactured products. The company continues to grow its remanufactur-ing business and further develop its operations and offerings.

MERA, the Motor & Equipment Remanufactur-ers Association, also an-nounced its support for the legislation. MERA is one of four market segment associ-ations of the Motor & Equip-ment Manufacturers As-sociation (MEMA), a trade group that lobbies on behalf of motor vehicle parts sup-pliers. On May 5, voters in the Canadian province of Al-berta the origination point of the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline (KXL) delivered a stunning defeat to the rul-ing Conservative party. For the first time in over four decades, the provincial elec-tion was won by a left-of-centre government.

The results could rever-berate into American politics by weakening cross-border support for KXL construc-

tion. The victory of the New Democratic Party, led by Premier-elect Rachel Not-ley, represents a trend away from official support for oil production. Notley has indi-cated her government would review the royalty rates paid by energy companies, increase corporate taxes, strengthen environmental rules, and halt the practice of spending taxpayer dollars to promote pipeline projects.

Alberta has more than

170 billion barrels of prov-en oil reserves, much of it from tar sands oil. Since 2008, TransCanada Corpo-ration has been lobbying for the necessary approvals to construct the portion of KXL from Hardisty, Alberta to Steel City, Nebraska. Having faced countless po-litical and procedural de-lays, the effort has now lost a devoted ally in the form of Albertas government.

The project has been stuck in idle for more than six years and the pipelines future remains in the hands of the U.S. Department of State and ultimately the White House. Recognizing the impact on the construc-tion and energy sectors on both sides of the U.S.-Can-ada border, AED has made Keystone a top legislative priority. b

Like many other Atlas Copco Dynapac roll-ers and pavers, the CP2700 maximizes productivity through operator comfort and excellent visibility.

The CP2700 is equipped with a spacious platform, ergonomic controls and a rotating, sideway-sliding seat and steering assem-bly. The ergonomic con-trols allow the operator to focus on compacting rath-er than looking down to check controls, while the sliding seat ensures clear sight lines of the roller and compacting surface. Contractor also can equip the unit with a comfort-able cab that provides outstanding all-round vis-ibility and air condition-ing or Automatic Climate Control.

The roller features an Interim Tier 4 compli-

ant engine, which gener-ates minimal emissions as well as low noise levels thanks to its thermostati-cally controlled cooling fans. Both engines have an ultra-smooth start/stop system, which contributes to a high-quality finished surface.

Its dual-circuit braking system, a Dynapac-exclu-sive feature, maintains full braking effect even if one circuit is disabled, which enhances safety when working on inclines and declines.

Like all Atlas Copco road construction equipment, the new CP2700 is built on a modular concept and shares many components and sub-systems with oth-er models. This commonal-ity virtually eliminates the operators learning-curve between similar machines and minimizes servicing downtimes.

Atlas Copcos CP2700 has a compacting width of 7.55 feet and a maxi-mum operating weight

of 59,000 pounds. This makes it ideal for a wide variety of finishing and sealing asphalt work and soil compaction applica-tions. An optional DCA-A compaction analyzer also prevents over compac-tion, which can damage the roller, and ensures the operator makes enough passes.

With the optional tem-perature sensor and the unique DCA-A analyzer, the CP2700 can achieve op-timum density and surface texture while providing full statistics and documenta-tion. The system can also playback the rolling pattern and produce a printout of all relevant information, ei-ther on paper or as a PDF file for later analysis. This allows contractors to easily replicate the same param-eters on similar projects or readily supply for Federal Highway Department in-spections.

With an optional air-on-the-run system, users can even adjust tire pressure during the compaction pro-cess, which helps minimize downtime.

The AJAC 2015 EcoRun fleet of 20 vehicles, show-casing the latest eco-friend-ly and fuel-efficient tech-nologies, along with their 21 AJAC Journalist drivers, finished up the final leg of the AJAC 2015 Vancouver Island EcoRun back at the Coast Coal Vancouver Ho-tel last night with a group dinner and awarding of the Michelin Green Jersey for most fuel efficient driving.

Thirteen manufacturers participated in this years two-day drive from Van-couver to Nanaimo, via BC Ferry, then south to Victo-ria and returning by ferry to the mainland and host city Thursday evening. The 20 vehicles participating rep-

resent a range of models. The powertrains include pure electric, plug-in and conventional hybrid, die-sel fuelled, high-efficiency gasoline and, new to the consumer market, hydro-gen fuel cell.

With more than 6 dif-ferent driving legs over the course of the two days, the 21 journalists swapped cars at each leg, selected at random, so that everyone was able to drive a variety of vehicle entrants over the course of the two day event. This way, your fuel effi-cient driving techniques had to change according to the vehicle you were selected to drive, not al-

lowing for journalists to become comfortable in one particular vehicle.

The AJAC EcoRun Green Jersey has always been a highly sought after award since its inception, following the inaugural showcase run. Last years winner, Toronto Star jour-nalist and Motoring TV personality, Jim Kenzie, proudly presented Au-tofocus.cas Chris Chase with the coveted Michelin Green Jersey for the best results in adhering to fu-el-efficient driving tech-niques. The scores were very close, and only off by one point, with Jim Kenzie at 86.1 and Chris Chase at 87.0. E-Z Drills pneumatic, 210 3-parapet wall drill maximizes productivity while drilling vertical holes for a variety of concrete ap-plications, such as securing temporary protective walls along shoulders of bridges and roadways; anchoring temporary traffic barriers; and unique applications, such as maintaining con-crete seawalls.

The 3- parapet wall drill ensures continuous opera-tions and optimal uptime

with its innovative fea-tures. E-Z Drills patented roller-bearing feed system powers each drill auto-matically with individu-ally tailored air pressure according to the material it is used on. This extends the service life of the drill bit because it helps pre-vent the bit from bouncing against the concrete due to inadequate pressure. The multi-point oil injection system reduces wear on the drill motors by ensur-ing each drill motor has enough lubricating oil from its single reservoir. This is more effective than a cen-tral oiling system, which doesnt offer individual lu-brication points. Quick re-lease bit guides can accom-modate several bit styles, including one-piece whirl bits, two-piece H-thread bits and taper steel bits. The bit guides also allows the operator to replace bits quickly, which contributes to minimal downtime.

The drill adjusts easily

to meet a variety of project specifications. The units can drill holes up to 2-1/2 inches in diameter and as deep as 3 1/2 feet to ac-commodate the height of parapet wall sections. The 4-foot-long spacing be-tween each drill gang is ful-ly adjustable, allowing the operator to tackle a range of drilling intervals. And, the drill requires a mini-mum airflow of 300 cubic-feet per-minute to operate all three drill motors.

For simple manoeu-vrability, the 3-gang parapet wall drill is self-propelled, so the operator can use a lever to move it along the parapet wall rather than manually pushing it. The drills two pneumatic wheels support the units quick reposi-tioning capabilities, which eliminate the tedious and time-consuming process of manually levelling and repositioning it after each movement. The two verti-cal arms secure the drill to the parapet wall and the wheels attached to

the arms allow it to move freely.

The drill also maximizes productivity with its easy-to-use control panel. The

which improve workflow and safety.

An optional dust col-lection system can be at-tached to the drill for additional safety on the worksite. By using the dust collection system, opera-tors dust exposure is re-

duced dramatically and it protects the environment and prevents dust from blowing into nearby traffic. The system extends the life of the E-Z Drill units by re-moving dust that can stick to lubricants or wear nuts and bolts. b

The Government of Yu-kon is investing $1.4 mil-lion in 62 projects to pro-mote and enhance mineral prospecting and explora-tion activities in Yukon through the Yukon Min-eral Exploration Program (YMEP).

We received 103 ap-plications for financial as-sistance for exploration projects, which shows there is a significant interest in Yukons mineral potential, Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources Minister Scott Kent said. The technical reports received after each years exploration activ-ity help document and map Yukons geology, which ul-timately benefits the entire mineral industry.

It is expected that the 2015 YMEP funding re-cipients will spend an ad-ditional $4 million in pri-vate sector money on their exploration activities this season.

The Yukon Geological Survey assessed each of the

applications based on the quality of the project pro-posal, the ability and ex-perience of the applicants, favourable geology in the target area and the poten-tial to generate additional economic development.

The YMEP supports in-dividuals and companies by providing a portion of the capital needed to lo-cate, explore and develop mineral projects to an ad-vanced exploration stage. Funding is available under three categories:

Grassroots Prospect-ing: Covers basic operating expenses while searching for new mineral occur-rences. Eligible for up to $15,000 per year.

Focused Regional: For basic exploration work di-rected at exploring for and appraising the potential of an under-explored area. Eligible for up to $25,000 per year.

Funding was approved for 15 placer projects and 47 hard rock projects. b
