whether holidaying in Mexico, skiing at Hem-lock or relaxing by the oceanside in Gibsons. He especially enjoyed spend-ing time with his seven grandchildren.

John has left a last-ing legacy in the equip-ment industry in B.C.

with Foreman Equipment Ltd., which is run by his two sons Adam and Ryan and a long time staff of employees that shared his vision of growth and outstanding service to the industry.

    John Foreman was a pio-

neer in the aggregate in-dustry in Canada. Right from his first days of busi-ness in BC, John was a tre-mendous supporter of the Supply Post and we were deeply saddened to hear of his sudden passing. We wish the Foreman family our condolences. b

John was born and raised in Belfast, North-ern Ireland. A true ad-venturer he moved to Canada with his wife and two young sons in 1976. Shortly thereafter he started selling Power-screen equipment in On-tario, where to this day his old customers still ask about him.

John moved west to Brit-ish Columbia in 1984 to set up his own Powerscreen dealership (Powerscreen of Canada Western Ltd.).

John was a true pioneer in the mobile screening and crushing market and was the first to start selling track mounted screening and crushing equipment in B.C. and Alberta.

John was also a found-ing member of the B.C. Stone, Sand & Gravel As-sociation, formerly the Aggregate Producers As-sociation and a strong ad-vocate for the aggregate industry in B.C.

An avid musician John had a passion for playing drums and enjoyed per-forming with his classic rock band as well as with the local Chilliwack Ro-tary Club band.

John was also a collec-tor of classic British cars and was always keeping an eye out for a gem that needed polishing, espe-cially Jaguars.

A proud Rotarian John also worked with his local Chilliwack club assisting with their many fundrais-ing activities that sup-ported not only his local community but also their many causes throughout the world.

Most of all John cher-ished his family and loved spending time with them,

    John Foreman(Feb. 23, 1947 Nov. 22, 2015)

As a part of an exten-sive process, Wacker Neu-son has defined its brand positioning. Wacker Neuson all it takes is the value proposition that Wacker Neuson gives its customers. In addition to the comprehensive prod-uct and service portfolio, the slogan stands for re-liable solutions, which Wacker Neuson offers its customers, for a strong partner and a solid expe-rienced brand.

Strong brands create trust, says Cem Peksa-glam, CEO of Wacker Neu-son SE. With the message

Wacker Neuson all it takes; we would like to convey to our customers a holistic promise: Our find-ings from market analyses, customer and employee surveys as well as competi-tor analyses have led to the redefinition of our brand identity. Our goal is to dis-tinguish ourselves from the competition, give our customers a specific value proposition that stands for our brand and that is lived by every Wacker Neuson employee and sales part-ners. Ultimately, we are only successful when our customers are.

Stefanie Wieland, Head of Corporate Marketing, says: It is our declared goal to further strengthen and expand the relatively young brand, and there-fore to make Wacker Neuson synonymous with reliability and innovative capacity around the globe.

The brand identity of Wacker Neuson there-fore consists of values that were determined as relevant and differentiat-ing customer needs: Reli-ability is the brand core of Wacker Neuson. This means that the company reflects this value both in its offering, in the partner-ship with employees, cus-tomers and dealers, but also in its procedures. b

B.C.-based companies and skilled workers are benefiting from the ex-pansion of FortisBCs Til-bury liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in Delta, according to data released by FortisBC on the one-year anniversary of the groundbreaking for the expansion.

FortisBC has committed more than $50 million in lo-cal contracts in 2015 and is using products and servic-es sourced from more than 100 companies in 10 local communities. To date, the expansion project has gen-erated more than 65,000 hours of employment and provided apprenticeship and First Nations training.

FortisBC has engaged Bechtel Canada Co. as prime contractor on the project. FortisBC is also proud to work with the Tsawwassen First Na-tion (TFN) Construction / Matcon Civil Joint Ven-ture, which provides civil construction site services. Together, these firms have approximately 95 staff working full time on the project 90% of these em-ployees reside locally. Also contributing to the project are 40 trade workers from Western Pacific Enterpris-es, the general contractor working on the associated electrical substation.

From the beginning, weve strived to give lo-cal businesses and First Nations the opportunity to work on our Tilbury expansion project, includ-ing the early design and engineering phase, and now construction and civil work, said Michael Mulcahy, President & CEO of FortisBC. Thanks to those early efforts to en-gage local suppliers, we have a significant number of B.C.-based companies pre-qualified and active on the project.

We are actively work-ing with local businesses and craft professionals to maximize their participa-tion in this important en-ergy project, said Roger Radabaugh, Bechtels proj-ect manager on the project. We are looking forward to continued collaboration with FortisBC in delivering significant economic and employment benefits to the

    region.In October 2014, For-

tisBC held the first busi-ness-to-business meeting in Delta as part of its lo-cal contractor strategy. Throughout 2015, repre-sentatives from Bechtel, also based in Delta, met one-on-one with a num-ber of local suppliers to pre-qualify businesses for the opportunity. Currently, there are 475 craft workers registered for Tilbury.

Of the 10 local com-munities, Delta and Rich-mond have benefited the most from work on the expansion project over the last year. In Delta, the project is benefiting from the expertise of 32 locally owned businesses or companies with satel-lite offices in the commu-nity. For companies like Delta-based Ideal Weld-ers Ltd., working on the Tilbury expansion means employees many of whom have worked for the company for more than 20 years can work where they live.

The downturn in the oil sands has hurt many companies across Cana-da, said Jim Longo, presi-dent of Ideal Welders Ltd. The FortisBC Tilbury LNG expansion is a good proj-ect; its keeping our shop in Delta busy and allow-ing our staff to work close to home and contribute to B.C.s economy.

The FortisBC expan-sion project is creating well-paying job opportuni-ties for people in Delta and contributing to the growth of our local economy, said Delta Mayor Lois E. Jack-son. It is helping to grow our skilled labour force and supports additional social and economic benefits in the community.

FortisBC operates the only two LNG facilities in British Columbia. The Til-bury LNG facility has op-erated safely and reliably since 1971. The Mt. Hayes facility on Vancouver Is-land was commissioned in 2011. The $400-million expansion at the Tilbury facility will allow FortisBC to meet the growing do-mestic demand for clean burning natural gas for the transportation industry and as an energy source for re-

    mote communities.FortisBC is proving

B.C.s LNG industry not only has the potential to create opportunities for companies and workers across the province, but that in Delta, its already happening, said Premier Christy Clark.

Our LNG opportunity remains strong thanks to the industrys commit-ment to invest and grow the sector, said B.C.s Minister of Natural Gas Development Rich Cole-man. FortisBCs financial commitment today will

create jobs and strengthen the economic prospects for British Columbia in the longer term.

Construction of the stor-age tank started in October 2014. FortisBC expects the expanded facility will be operational by winter 2016.Quick facts about the Tilbury LNG facility ex-pansion:The original facility was

built in 1971 and has been operating safely since then. Originally, it was used to supplement the Lower Mainland gas supply during periods of

peak demand such as the coldest winter days.

FortisBC began provid-ing LNG as a fuel for use in remote communities in 1997 and as a trans-portation fuel in 2009.

Heavy duty customers such as Vedder Trans-port Ltd., Arrow Trans-portation Systems Inc. and Denwill Enterprises Inc. acquire LNG from the existing Tilbury LNG facility.

The town of Inuvik in the North West Territo-ries is offsetting its die-sel fuel utility operations

    using LNG transported from Tilbury.

The expansion of the Til-bury Island LNG facility allows FortisBC to bet-ter support the province in the development of natural gas for the trans-portation sector, for re-mote communities and the marketplace. It will result in increased LNG supply for industrial us-ers and remote commu-nities, bringing economic development and new jobs to BC. b

As the days go by with no phone calls offering work in the Alberta oil-patch, Jared Park worries about how hell pay for his sons leukemia medicine.

Its a struggle. You dont know when or if youre going to make it back to work. You just hope you get that call, said Park as five-year-old Mason wriggled and bounced on the sofa in his tidy Truro, N.S., bungalow.

For Mason, its im-portant because part of our drug plan covers the medicine for his chemo-therapy.

The 30-year-old father of three is among a wave of East Coast workers who have returned home from the Western oilfields after a downturn in the economy. Many are hoping for higher hydrocarbon prices and a return to the West in 2016, but others have begun try-ing to seek a living closer to home.

Kerry Morash, a former provincial cabinet minis-

ter, said rural parts of the Maritimes have been hard hit by the fall in the oil prices from about $95US to current levels of less than $40US.

Morash joined the mi-gration west after the pa-per mill near Liverpool, N.S., where he worked as a health-and-safety consul-tant closed several years ago. He was hired on con-tract at the Kearl oilsands project north of Fort Mc-Murray, Alta.

There wasnt a lot of work back home, and there certainly wasnt a lot around Liverpool ... I was very fortunate to be able to go out there, he said, re-calling his two-week shifts of 12 hours per day.

He said some main-tenance jobs continue to draw East Coast tradespeo-ple, but since the comple-tion of Kearl, the former Progressive Conservative politician said he couldnt find another oilpatch job despite a resume that in-cluded a stint as Nova Sco-tias minister of labour and environment.

Gradually, hes starting to hear about opportunities in the rural area of Nova Scotia where he lives. And he said he may be staying on the East Coast.

Some industries in the Maritimes, meanwhile, are using the opportunity to re-cruit skilled tradespeople to work in their hometowns.

The Halifax shipyard has been recruiting work-ers from the West as it builds Arctic patrol ships for the federal government.

Spokeswoman Mary Keith said by early Decem-ber the Halifax site had 33 employees who had been working in Alberta, Brit-ish Columbia or Saskatch-ewan.

Some workers are re-training to begin fresh ca-reers that will keep them on the coast.

Twenty-three-year-old Jacob Stepaniak, who grew up in Margaree Valley, N.S., came home from Al-berta last year after work-ing intermittently in the West since 2011.

He returned to care for his 85-year-old grandfa-ther, who was ill with can-cer, and decided to stay home despite the attraction

of salaries of over $90,000 a year in the oilpatch.

You miss all those lit-tle things, the small-town way of life ... You run into someone here, youre guar-anteed to strike up a con-versation, he said. You really miss that.

Stepaniak is retraining in marine engineering tech-nology at the Nova Scotia Community College and expecting to begin a life at sea, possibly in the off-shore oil sector.

He and his girlfriend have been hunting for a home in the Margaree Val-ley, where they plan to settle.

But for Park and his partner Jenny Mosley, 30, the West remains the fam-ilys best hope for a secure future.

Each time Park departs, Mosley joins the boys ev-ery day in writing down on a blackboard how many sleeps until Dad returns, knowing his absence means the bank account will fill up.

Park recalls sitting in an airport two years ago feel-ing helpless as a distraught Mosley called him to say that Mason had been diag-nosed with acute lympho-blastic leukemia.

He said he longed to be home to hold his boy, but also realized work in the oilfield derricks would bring in $80,000 a year, along with a benefits plan for medicine and treat-ments.

Parks company plan provides full coverage for between $600 and $1,000 in monthly drug costs, while the provinces phar-macare program requires that families contribute a portion of costs depending on their income level.

Meanwhile, there are two other boys, Masons twin brother Maddox and nine-year-old Grady, to provide for.

When theres no work, theres no planning on get-ting ahead. Its just plan-ning on getting by, said Mosley, as Mason wriggled into her lap. b

Momentum Rental and Sales, an Atlas Copco deal-er in Port Lavaca, Texas, opened two new facilities one in Corpus Christi and another in Richwood, Texas. With the new loca-tions, Momentum extends Atlas Copcos equipment and support offering to the growing petrochemical and refinery customers in those areas.

Our mission is to be there for our customers through every phase of their projects with high-quality equipment backed by exceptional customer service, said Joey Bar-rett, Momentum Rental and Sales chief executive officer. Our two new fa-cilities help us accomplish this mission by making us accessible to more cus-tomers, particularly in the growing petrochemical and refinery markets.

The new facilities bring Momentums number of stores to three. The compa-ny rents, sells and services a wide range of new and

used equipment, including Atlas Copco portable air compressors, generators, handheld tools and light compaction equipment in addition to lifts and earth moving machines.

Barrett has more than 15 years of experience in the rental industry, which helps him build strong re-lationships with custom-ers. Momentum Rental and Sales has been serving Texas for three years and became an Atlas Copco dealer in 2013.

We chose to work with Atlas Copco because they offer a wide breadth of rug-ged and reliable products, which is critical in this in-dustry, Barrett said.

Atlas Copco designs its equipment to withstand harsh conditions, from the yard to the jobsite. For example, many of Atlas Copcos 90- to 1,800-cfm compressors feature the companys exclusive poly-ethylene HardHat canopy. The canopy lasts longer and retains a higher resale

value since it will not cor-rode and resists dents and fading.

Contractors depend on their equipment day in and day out, which is why reliability and durability are a key priority for all of our products, whether they are rented or pur-chased, said Clint Blair, Atlas Copco business de-velopment manager, oil and gas. And offering contractors a complete breadth of equipment that requires minimal ser-vicing gives them peace of mind when it comes to their bottom line and meeting tight deadlines.

Barrett added that At-las Copcos rental-focused equipment and full breadth of products allows the company to serve nearly any customer for any ap-plication.

Having a large variety of reliable equipment is what helps us serve grow-ing markets and enhances our productivity, trust with customers, and ultimately our success, Barrett said. We look forward to grow-ing relationships with new customers and our mar-kets. b

November 3rd, 2015 marked 100 days of con-struction on the Site C Clean Energy Project in northeast B.C. In the first 100 days of construction, work crews have been un-dertaking site preparation activities, including: clear-ing trees and vegetation at the dam site, upgrading public roads, building ac-cess roads at the dam site, constructing a 1,600-per-son worker accommoda-tion facility, excavation and slope stabilization and starting work on a tempo-rary construction bridge across the Peace River. Highlights include:More than 600 people are

currently working on the project and this number will continue to increase in the coming years.

More than 1,000 people and over 200 businesses participated in jobs fairs and business-to-business networking sessions

in October in Tumbler Ridge, Chetwynd and Fort St. John.

900 metres of public road improvements have been completed, with another 1.6 km of road-work underway.

Another 15 km of con-struction access roads are under construction within the dam site area.

Over 530 hectares of land has been cleared as part of site preparation work.

Approximately 13,000 m3 of timber has been delivered to local mills for processing.

More than 1-million m3 of material has been ex-cavated and relocated on the north bank of the dam site.

A temporary 300-person work camp has been set up on site to house work-ers while the 1,600-per-son lodge is constructed.

The first concrete pour took place for the worker

accommodation lodge in October and the first dorms have been deliv-ered to site.Site preparation is the

first step in an almost de-cade-long construction pe-riod for Site C. When the site preparation work is completed in early 2016, construction of the earthfill dam will begin. A contrac-tor for main civil works is expected to be named later this year.

During construction, BC Hydro and its contractors are implementing mitiga-tion measures to avoid or reduce effects on the envi-ronment and will comply with all federal and provin-cial conditions of approval. Quotes:

Hon. Bill Bennett, Min-ister of Energy and Mines and Minister Responsible for Core Review: In just over three months, the construction of Site C is already creating jobs and

business opportunities for communities and Aborigi-nal groups, and will con-tinue to do so for almost a decade. Once built, Site C will benefit generations of British Columbians by providing clean, renewable and affordable electricity for more than 100 years.

Hon. Todd Stone, Min-ister of Transportation & Infrastructure: Public road improvements are an im-portant early activity on Site C construction. This work has been progressing very well as our contractor, A.L. Sims and Sons from Prince George, is close to completing its work on 240 and 269 roads. This work will benefit the community by providing roads that are wider, smoother and safer for travel.

Chris ORiley, Depu-ty CEO, BC Hydro: We are committed to seeing northern and Aboriginal communities benefit from the construction of Site C through jobs, business opportunities and benefit agreements. Thats why we held local job fairs and business networking ses-sions early in the construc-tion phase and we will continue to create oppor-tunities for B.C.s workers

and businesses who want to participate in this his-toric project.

Hon. Mike Bernier, MLA, Peace River South: Site C is part of a long-term energy vision for our province and Im very pleased to see construction progressing well in the first 100 days. The timing of Site C construction is also very important as its going to provide family-support-ing jobs for people in the north. Im looking forward to seeing construction ad-vance and employment ramp up.

Pat Pimm, MLA, Peace River North: Site C is an important job creator for the Peace region and Im pleased to see Site C con-tractors posting all of their positions locally. Its great to see construction underway and Im looking forward to seeing more and more lo-cal businesses and workers benefit from construction. Im very proud of the vision and fortitude that our gov-ernment demonstrated in approving Site C. Key facts:As of the end of Sep-

tember, there were ap-proximately 600 people working on the project, including approximately

450 workers from B.C.Additional job fairs and

business networking sessions are planned for 2016.

$3.2 billion will be added to the provincial econo-my from the purchase of goods and services dur-ing Site C construction, including $130 million to the regional economy.

$40 million in tax rev-enues will be provided to local governments dur-ing construction.

Site C construction activ-ities will contribute $179 million in provincial revenues and $270 mil-lion in federal revenues during the construction period.

A regional legacy ben-efits agreement will see $2.4 million provided to the Peace River Regional District and its member municipalities for 70 years, indexed to infla-tion, starting when Site C is operational.

When Site C is combined with BC Hydros $1.7 bil-lion in annual capital in-vestment, an average of $2.4 billion is being in-vested annually in B.C.s electrical system. b

British Columbias larg-est power generation facil-ity has received a major upgrade. BC Hydro has completed a $272 million project, about $100 million under budget, to refurbish five generating units at the GM Shrum generat-ing station (GMS), which was built in the 1960s. The refurbishments make the units more efficient and al-low the facility to generate more power with the same amount of water flowing through.

GM Shrum generating station is the workhorse of B.C.s hydroelectric system. This facility alone

generates 25 per cent of the total power produced by BC Hydro annually and can generate enough pow-er for more than a million homes each year, said Bill Bennett, Minister of Energy and Mines. These up-grades will allow BC Hydro to generate power for an additional 16,000 homes.

Construction on the first unit started in the spring of 2012. The units were refur-bished as one capital project, back-to-back, and returned to service as they were com-pleted. With construction complete, the final unit went into service in October.

    This project had its

own set of challenges that required a staged approach to construction. The facility plays a pivotal role in meet-ing B.C.s electricity needs so we needed to ensure the units were in-service and available when our cus-tomers needed them es-pecially during the winter season when electricity use in B.C. reaches its peak, said Chris ORiley, Deputy CEO, BC Hydro.

GMS and the WAC Ben-nett dam are on the Peace River near Hudsons Hope. There are 10 generating units at GMS. From 2009 to 2012, BC Hydro made up-grades to three other units. With the completion of this most recent project, BC Hydro has now made sig-nificant upgrades to eight of the facilitys 10 units.

and economy growing, the demand for power in B.C. is going to increase sig-nificantly over the coming years, said Mike Bernier, MLA for Peace River South. The investments BC Hydro is making today in our heritage hydroelectric facilities like GM Shrum will ensure British Colum-bians will have the electric-

ity they need to power their lives, their homes and busi-nesses.

BC Hydro is the midst of a major capital program that involves investing, on average, $2.4 billion a year, over the next 10 years, in the provinces electrical system. The plan includes the construction of new infrastructure and upgrades to existing infra-

structure. For example, in addition to refurbishing units at GMS, BC Hydro is also putting in brand new generating units at the Mica generating sta-tion, which was built in the 1970s, and replacing the John Hart generating station, which has been operating since 1947. b

Accelerating time to market, decreasing prod-uct development costs, and increasing customer engagement results when organizations pair ad-vanced engineering with simulation. Breakthrough audio-visual (AV) and IT solutions help manufac-turers gain deeper insights during product design, validation, and verifica-tion, and customer design reviews.

The AV or visualiza-tion environment allows engineers to become im-mersed in their products and to see design impli-cations that would other-wise go undetected, said Mechdyne vice president James Gruening. A lead-ing provider of AV and IT systems, Mechdyne has designed and integrated solutions to support ad-vanced engineering at all types of manufacturing organizations including automotive, aerospace, consumer products, and defence contractors.

One of these organiza-tions, Genesis Systems Group of Davenport, Iowa, knows the benefits of integrating high-end vi-sualization with advanced engineering. As the larg-est builder of robotic arc welding systems in North America, Genesis com-bines engineering and digital proof-of-concept to ensure their robotic automation designs meet customer performance ex-pectations. Demonstrating their robotic systems to customers using simula-tion and virtual reality is a critical part of the product design process. Our 3D Virtual Environment en-ables us to interact with our customers on a deep-er level, and helps bring our simulations to life, comments Genesis virtual solutions engineer Travis Sample.

Genesis partnered with Mechdyne to design and integrate an AV sys-tem that displays their automation and robotic

designs in virtual real-ity. The value Genesis finds in their 3D Virtual Environmenta curved, four-by-four tiled mo-bile advanced visualiza-tion solutiondoesnt stop with internal design processes, collaboration, and ergonomic testing. Interacting with their cus-tomers in the 3D Virtual Environment creates a long-lasting positive im-pression. More people are coming to our facility to see their concept before they even buy anything, added Sample.

Teammates from Gen-esis and Mechdyne were on exhibit at FABTECH 2015 November 9-12 dem-onstrating the power ad-vanced engineering pared with advanced visual-ization. Attendees had the opportunity to walk through robotics designs. The team showcased the 3D Virtual Environment mobile solution, Laser Seam Stepper, Projection Welder, Tooling, and Vi-sion Demo. Genesiss 3D Virtual Environment will also be used for design reviews with potential cli-ents. b
