ST. JOHN CHRYSOSTOM (September 13)

“Speaking truth to power” may have become just another cliché, but doing precisely that cost John “the Golden Mouth” (Chrysostom) his diocese and, after exile and a forced march, his health and life. “Renowned for eloquence, heroic in suffering” (Sacramentary), John’s scriptural insights still comfort and challenge. Mystical theologian, he bids Eastern Christians, whose principal Divine Liturgy bears his name, to lift up their hearts to “God ineffable, beyond comprehension, invisible, beyond understanding, existing forever, always the same.” Model pastor, he warns Roman Catholics in the Liturgy of the Hours not to neglect God-in-the-flesh: “Would you honor Christ’s body? Do not scorn his nakedness, honoring him here in church with silken robes, while neglecting him cold and naked outside. What use to burden Christ’s altar with golden chalices, while Christ himself starves to death? What use dressing the altar with gold-woven cloths, while denying the shivering Christ the clothes he needs? Do not adorn the church while ignoring your needy brother: he is the most precious temple of all!”

FORGIVENESS

Nearly ten years before, a son and father had parted ways when the business they shared went bankrupt. The son blamed the father. They did not speak to each other again. Then the father became seriously ill. The mother called the son and told him he had better come soon. The son walked sheepishly into the hospital room. The father motioned his son to him and whispered: “Did you ever think you could do anything that would keep me from loving you?” Resentment and anger are foul things, the first reading from Sirach tells us. Remember the last things. Stop hating. Live by the commandments. As St. Paul writes to the Romans, we are to live for the Lord and die for the Lord. Jesus’ parable in today’s Gospel reminds us of God’s compassion. The immense sin of humanity has been forgiven and stricken from the record. We are to forgive others in the same way.

CROATIAN CONSULATE DAY AT ST. JEROME PARISH

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CCD Classes to start soon

Every Fall we traditionally start with CCD Classes for our little ones. We are planning to do the same this year amid the pandemic of Covid-19. First part of CCD Education, per Archdiocesan request, will be held through Zoom classrooms. We hope to start in-person education very soon. All the details will be communicated to the parents on a regular ba-sis. FIRST HOLY RECONCILIATION We welcome all our children who will approach the sacrament of the holy confession for the first time this weekend, preparing for their First Holy Communion that will take place next weekend. We pray for them that they can be true followers of our Lord

and Savior Jesus Christ who gives Himself fully to us in the celebration of the sacred sacraments. Please keep them in your prayers.

PROSLAVA GODIŠNJICA BRAKA U nedjelju, 11. listopada, pod svetom misom u 11 sa proslavi ćemo svetu misu zahvalnicu za godišnjice braka. Pozivamo naše župljane koji ove godine slave značajniju obljetnicu braka da nam se pridruže dok Bogu zahvaljujemo na darovima i milos ma. U ova nesigurna vremena na osobit način želimo Bogu da dužnu hvalu za ono navrijednije što smo imali i što smo primili. Ranije toga dana svetu misu godišnjice braka ćemo slavi i na engleskome jeziku u 9:30 ujutro. Pridružite nam se i potaknite i druge da nam se pridruže. Neka ovo bude znak nade svima nama.

GENERALNI KONZULAT RH U CHICAGU

KONZULARNI DAN U NAŠOJ ŽUPI

Ove nedjelje, 13. rujna, od 12:00 p.m., u našoj će župi bi organiziran Konzularni dan hrvatskog konzulata u Chicagu. Generalna konzulica RH u Chicagu gospođa Sanja Laković i osoblje konzulata bi će vam na ras-polaganju za sve konzularne poslove u gornjoj maloj dvorani poslije hrvatske svete mise. Hvala konzulici i njezinome osoblju što su ovo omogućili i poštjedjeli nas odlazaka u gužvu Downtona.

MLADIFEST NOVOSTI Mladifest - Susret Hrvatske Katoličke Mladeži Amerike i Kanade trebao se održati u našoj župi prvoga vikenda u lipnju, 5.-7. lipnja. Međutim, usred ove globalne pandemije, morali smo ga odgoditi. Ovo će tako biti prva godina od 2013. da Mladifest nije održan. Žao nam je da se to dogodilo, ali vjerujemo da će sljedeće godine biti jednako dobro, čak i bolje. Mladifest će tako biti održan prvoga vikenda u lipnju 2021. 4.-6. lipnja. Naša župa će biti domaćin ovoga lijepoga događaja. Sve vas koji ste se prijavili da biste pomogli organizaciju Mladifesta naši će mladi kontaktirati na vrijeme. Hvala vam od srca na svemu

što ste dosada učinili i što ćete još učiniti za mlade hrvatske katolike u Americi.

I ove jeseni, kao i obično, započinjemo sa vje-ronaučnom godinom u našoj župi. Nadbiskupija od svih župa traži da se započne na vrijeme, ali da na samome početku nastava bude online.
