Customer/Installer Responsibilities

Flooring Guidelines

Redefi ning the look of fl oors...

• Acclimatize your fl oor for a recommended 72 hours (minimum 48 hours). • Check fl ooring for moisture content, using a moisture meter. (Should be 6-9%) • Check subfl oor for moisture content. (Must be within 4% of the fl oor)• Ensure concrete subfl oor has adequate time to cure.• Check home humidity, using a hydrometer, prior to installation. Maintaining humidity levels

will keep fl oor joints tight.• Follow enclosed installation instructions included in each package of fl ooring. • Inspect the fi rst few boxes and confi rm the quality/color and size are what you ordered.

(FLOORING ONCE INSTALLED IS CONSIDERED ACCEPTED)• Install according to National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) standards (nwfa.org)• Inspect fl oor boards - milling, color, factory fi nish and grade - as they are being installed. DO

NOT USE ANY BOARDS WITH DEFECTS.

Recognized industry standards allow for defects in tolerance up to a maximum 5%. If the product is not acceptable DO NOT INSTALL. Contact your supplier immediately for assistance.

It is important for the customer to read and understand the product installation guides includ-ed with the fl oor. Failure to comply with these guidelines can result in undesirable results and any damage as a result will not considered as a manufacturing defect.

Consult www.PravadaFloors.com for more installation information and installation video.

• In rare cases, squeaks may come and go as a result of moisture or subfl oor fl uctuations.• Wood fl oors are a natural product and as such, are subject to inherent characteristics that do

not represent fl aws or defects in material or workmanship. • No two pieces of wood are the same; therefore, they will not stain to the exact same degree.

The lighter the stain, the more predominant this difference will be. • Laminate fl oors cannot be refi nished or sanded. Engineered or solid hardwood fl oors may be

sanded or refi nished a limited number of times.

IMPORTANT!PLEASE READ PRIOR TO FLOOR INSTALLATION

Guidelines

Wood Species

Redefi ning the look of fl oors...

• Acclimatize your fl oor for a recommended 72 hours (minimum 48 hours). • Check fl ooring for moisture content, using a moisture meter. (Should be 6-9%*) • Inspect fl oor boards - milling, color, factory fi nish and grade - as they are being installed. DO

NOT USE ANY BOARDS WITH DEFECTS*.• Check subfl oor for moisture content. (Must be within 4% of the fl oor)• Check home humidity, using a hydrometer, prior to installation. Maintaining humidity levels

at 35-55%* will help keep fl oor joints tight.• Ensure concrete subfl oor has adequate time to cure (45 days minimum). Once the slab has

cured, turn the heat on regardless of the season and leave it on for at least 5-6 days before installing wood fl ooring. DO NOT EXCEED 27°C (82°F). If the slab is relatively new, it is rec-ommended the heating system be turned on for 30 to 60 days before installing fl oors.

• Follow enclosed installation instructions included in each package of fl ooring. • Floors may be installed over radiant heated subfl ooring. To prevent buckling, warping, and

cupping, NEVER CHANGE TEMPERATURE OF RADIANT HEATED FLOORS BY MORE THAN 1°C (2°F) EACH DAY.*

• Surface temperature of the subfl oors MUST NOT EXCEED 27°C (82°F)*. Abruptly turning on/off the radiant heat system can cause crowning and cupping of the boards which will not be covered by warranty. It is recommended that radiant heat systems be turned on/off gradu-ally.

• Recognized industry standards allow for defects in tolerance up to a maximum 5%. If the product is not acceptable, DO NOT INSTALL. Contact your supplier immediately for assis-tance.

• Not all species of wood are ideal candidates for installation over radiant heating systems. When choosing a fl oor, keep stability of the wood species in mind. No matter the species, NEVER CHANGE TEMPERATURE OF RADIANT HEATED FLOORS BY MORE THAN 1°C (2°F) EACH DAY. PLEASE NOTE: HICKORY IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY FOR USE OVER RADIANT HEATING SYSTEMS.

ENGINEERED HARDWOOD: Engineered hardwood consists of a real wood layer, incredibly stable high density fibreboard core, and wood backing, bonded together. This layering allows engineered wood to tolerate temperature and humidity fluctuations better than other types of flooring.

TM

BAMBOO: Bamboo is actually a grass and is one of the fastest growing plants species in the world. As a sustainable resource, bamboo is eco-friendly. Bamboo is a great way to modernize the look of any room and can be installed as a floating floor.

TM

SANDING & REFINISHING: While hardwood and engineered hardwood floors can be sanded and refinished, laminate floors cannot. However, laminate floors are very stable and durable and should last for many years when properly cared for.

At FLOOR DEPOT, we’re dedicated to preserving the environment for future generations.

Today, the Earth’s forests are being depleted at an alarming rate. Together with our manufacturers and

distributors, we’re ensuring products we stock are produced using the most ecologically friendly practices.

The HDF found in our laminates and engineered wood are made using 90% recycled wood materials while our engineered products use up to 50% less harvested raw materials.

We carry only the best, and our floors can be reused, recycled and re-installed.

September 2004 The Blueprint 1

A Priceless Gift by Ronda Field and Mimosa Bryant

MCAP Mortgage Corp. and partners Invis, GE Mortgage Insurance Canada and Canada Mortgage & Housing (CMH),

have donated $40,000 to the Habitat for Humanity of Vancouver.

This donation will help sponsor two new homes, bringing Richard and Linda Donily’s dream of home ownership another step closer. The Donilys will be one of four families moving into a third phase home of Habitat for Humani-ty’s project where twenty-seven townhouses are scheduled for completion in the year 2007.

“There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a young family move into their own home for the first time,” said Joe Santos, Regional Vice President of MCAP. “Habitat for Humanity helps people. MCAP has supported this wonderful organization for many years and will continue to do so. We are very pleased to assist Habitat and urge others to do the same.”

Gord Dahlen, Vice President of Invis, stated, “As mortgage brokers, we are fortunate to be able to help Canadians move into their own homes everyday. Teaming up with Habitat for Humanity and MCAP is a logical extension of what we do. We’re proud to be involved.”

According to Heather Ross, Board Chair-woman for Habitat for Humanity of Vancouver, “MCAP, Invis, GE Mortgage Insurance Canada, and CMH have all been wonderful supporters of Habitat. Together, they have held numerous fundraisers with their employees and clients, helping to raise the profile of Habitat within the community. Habitat just wouldn’t work without the help of organizations like these. It means so much to us here.” (continued on p. 3)

Nails, Nails. . . and More Nails

by Chris McGill

Local company, Tree Island Industries gener-ously donated 6.7 tons of nails to Habitat for Humanity. Brian Badger of Habitat had

contacted the company in July with a request for 500 pounds of nails. However, Bob Raeger, President of Tree Island Industries said if Habitat was willing to take the whole lot, Tree Island had 6.7 tons of nails to donate on an all or nothing basis. (continued on p. 4)
