In Our Parish ~ En Nuestra Parroquia

Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick

The anointing of the sick is a sacrament of the Church in which the priest prays, lays hands on and anoints the sick person with blessed oil. The sacrament originated in the healing ministry of Jesus.

Who can receive this sacrament? Anyone who is dangerously ill due to sickness, injury or old age may be anointed. A person should be anointed at the beginning of illness or serious health conditions. Elderly people may be anointed if they have become weakened even though no serious illness is present.

Anointing of the Sick will be celebrated Friday, June 14, at 9:00 AM Mass.

has many volunteer opportunities.

However, one of the greatest needs in our

community and in your neighborhood is for

Senior Transportation Drivers.

Please help us respond to trip requests from seniors, who are

60 + years of age, they are ambulatory and simply want to

maintain their independence in their homes.

Destinations are to medical appointments, light grocery

shopping, and government offices.

It is volunteer directed: set your own schedule, zip code and

destination preference. Gas cards are available upon request.

We welcome Deacon Frank and Patti Chavez to our parish. They moved here from Farmington (Diocese of Gallup) to Albuquer-que last summer. Frank and Patti have been married for 45 years and have three daughters: Maria (in heaven), Monica (husband Jon) and Tessa (husband Takeshi). Their special joy is their grandson, Leo.

Frank has been ordained for over 30 years and served in parish ministry, as Diocesan Director of Deacon Formation, and as Region XIII representative to the National Association of Deacon Directors. While at their previous parish, Patti served as an Ex-traordinary Minister of Communion, organized and coordinated a Christian Women’s Reading Group, and served on the Women In Faith Women’s Retreat Team.

Frank has served in full time ministry since 2005, when he retired from his secular career as District Supervisor of the NM Oil Conservation Division and as Commissioner of Oil and Gas. Patti worked for many years in many organizations, as a Secretary/Administrative Assistant, but her main career was raising their children.

They have chosen Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary because of our pastor who ministers first, asks ques-tion later; and because of the warm family (“gente”) atmosphere in the parish. Deacon Frank and Patti hope to be here “por los siglos de los siglos.”

FATHERS DAY NOVEENA

©2002 Paul Turner, Arch. of Chicago, Liturgy Training Publications.

Pentecost: The word The name Pentecost means “fiftieth” and in early Christianity it referred to the whole 50 days of Easter, ending with the celebration of Pentecost. Pentecost is a celebration of the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the church, as Jesus had promised. The disciples experience the pres-ence of the Spirit in such a profound way that it drives them out into the world to proclaim and preach the gospel with a cour-age unknown before.

Pentecost: The meaning It is hard to imagine how much we rely on lan-guage. Take it away, and you have chaos. People misunderstand each other; they grow impatient or presume others are being malicious. It all happens when we don’t speak the same language. God is the creator of everything and the ruler of all. God even rules over language. When the Holy Spirit came on the first Pentecost and bestowed the gift of tongues upon the apostles, the confusion of languages end-ed. Everyone could understand. The Christian message was central enough to human experience to resonate with all people, no mat-ter what language they spoke. Whenever we cannot understand what life is saying to us, we have only to turn to the ruler of languages. The Holy Spirit will translate, and if we allow ourselves to experience the presence of the Spirit, it could drive us out into the world in the same way to proclaim and preach the gospel with a courage we’ve never known before. ©2002 Paul Turner, Arch. of Chicago, Liturgy Training Publications.
