Ways We Can Be Like God


• In Love– John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life.



• In Love– 1 John 3:10

In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.



• In Impartiality– 1 Peter 1:17

And if ye call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to each man's work, pass the time of your sojourning in fear:



• In Mercy– Titus 3:5

Not by works done in righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

Ye therefore shall be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Godliness Often Misconstrued


• Some think that gain is godliness– 1 Timothy 6:4-5

4 he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but doting about questionings and disputes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmising, 5 wrangling of men corrupted in mind and bereft of the truth, supposing that godliness is a way of gain.



• Some practice an outward form of godliness– 2 Timothy 3:5

Holding a form of godliness, but having denied the power therefore. From these also turn away.

Results of GodlinessResults of Godliness

• Ensures persecution– 2 Timothy 3:12

Yea, and all that would live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.


• Godliness works deliverance from temptation– 1 Corinthians 10:13

There hath no temptation taken you but such as man can bear: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to endure it.


• Godliness with contentment is where we gain– 1 Timothy 6:6

But godliness with contentment is great gain:

come– 1 Timothy 4:8

For bodily exercise is profitable for a little; but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life which now is, and of that which is to come.

practicing godliness– 1 Timothy 2:1-3

1 I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made for all men; 2 for kings and all that are in high place; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour.

• Godly people are set apart for the Lord– Psalms 4:3

But know that Jehovah hath set apart for himself him that is godly: Jehovah will hear when I call unto him.

Him in eternity!– 1 John 3:2-3
