Within the Mind of a Millionaire

“WILLIE” A Gentle Giant

Blue Boy Willie is a five year old twenty-pound Maine Coon cat. He is harness trained and walks on a leash. He loves to go to work and have rides in his owner’s car. He thinks he is a dog.

Willie is an ambassador cat for the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA). He works in an Educational booth and does his job well. He has traveled all over the western U.S. for CFA and helps people learn more about cats in general, as well as about his breed.

The Maine Coon cat’s easygoing nature makes it a fine companion for children and other pets. They are gentle, affectionate, and playful. They are also good mousers and like to retrieve objects. They communicate with quiet, chirp-like trills. Maine Coons like to be with their people and want to be in the middle of whatever they are doing.

The Maine Coon is a large cat, broad-chested and muscular, with a long, rectangular body and a long plumed tail. The feet are round and tufted – well suited to snowy climates. Large tufted ears, large wide-set eyes, and a regal neck ruff contribute to the impressive aspect of this American beauty.

Willie loves to give kisses, likes to be bathed and brushed, and will do anything for Greenies. He knows his name and will come when he is called. He will run to the door when his owner gets the car keys and paw the door handle as if saying “I want to go; please take me; I’m bored.” He loves to show off, and will look to see if people are watching him.

Making the Right ChoicesContinued from June’s NewspaperI have to say it was my father who always believed in me and always supported

all of his five boys in all our endeavors usually leading by example. He was a big dreamer and positive thinker. He was self motivated and self

made, yet willing to be trained to become better. We have to be willing to seek out other influences in order to change our opinion of our self and reprogram our thoughts. If we don’t, we will end up living out our lives believing what we believe, good or bad, true or false. If you want to change your life, you have to change what you put into your mind to accommodate for your goals and dreams. It is like fertilizing the soil to help what you want to grow and poison to kill the weeds. But if you are not careful, the poison will kill the good stuff. You have to adopt a new way of thinking. You will still have certain core beliefs depending on family history, religious beliefs, moral values and perhaps political opinion. You have to be open.

I heard it once said, “Your mind is like a parachute, it works best when it’s open”. So if you want to create greater success in your life you have to study what successful people do and how they think. You need to duplicate their attitude towards success and the posture they exhibit, how they set goals and how they react to challenges. You have to become proactive learning how to adjust your mind to accept the fact that you are worthy of a life of abundance without having to compromise the principles you live by. Sometimes it starts with establishing those principles and acknowledging the desires of your heart. This is where your mission statement comes in to play. You can’t be fuzzy about your dreams. You can’t have an attitude of “whatever will be, will be”. That kind of thinking won’t get you anywhere. As long as you expect nothing you will achieve nothing. And you probably won’t have success in your life if you don’t feel worthy. And by not feeling worthy you can develop an actual fear of success. Good or great things don’t always happen to the other guy, they can happen to you.

Ask yourself these questions:What early programming might be holding you back from moving on?What decisions or changes are you willing to make that will help you overcome

your past and its negative programming so you can choose to live a life of abundance and acceptance?

Fast Growing Markets for Small Business By: La Ronda Bowen

Q. Is fast growth possible in today’s economy? R. The experts say “Yes,” especially for businesses which use improved technology and operate in growing niche-markets within growth industries. (1) Health and fitness – 80 million baby boomers are a lucrative target market. Example: Yoga products/services up 87% in 2008 over 2004. Health care technologies, including software development, received $19 billion in stimulus funding for such things as developing health –information tracking systems. Adult day care has grown from about 300 facilities in 1978 to over 4,000 today. Home health care expected to increase 4.5% a year until 2016. (2) Technology & Software development for banking and Internet applications are experiencing phenomenonal growth and venture capital firms are seeking them out (VC Sand Hill Road earmarked of $100 million for iPhone apps market). (3) Entertainment and Food – the candy market grew almost 4% in the past year and beer & wine wholesaler profits grew 18%. Food trucks offering a single type of food are growing in major cities. (4) Niche business consulting – from accounting to public relations, to energy efficiency, this is the nation’s fastest growing industry. No matter which market you are in, the basics still apply. Think through your business idea by creating a business plan; you may not do everything you plan, but planning is essential; test your plan by talking to potential customers, and make sure your basic expenses are covered for at least 6 months (12 is better). Write and let us know of your success.

We welcome your questions and comments. Please e-mail them to: [email protected] or visit our website at: http://www.bowenassoc.net and check the entrepreneur section. La Ronda answers

all questions personally or in this column.

Tips to get Started Investing in Houses Ask yourself; are you looking for long term cash flow, or would you rather make money by rehabbing and flipping property? What actions are involved and how involved would you like to/need to be? What skills do you already posses that could benefit you? Several great books to begin with are, ‘The Millionaire Real Estate Investor’ by Gary Keller, ‘Building Wealth One House at a Time’ by John Schaub - any Fixer Jay book, and for a paradigm change read ‘The 4-hour Work Week’ by Tim Ferris. Other than books, try meeting with people who are already in the business - acquiring a mentor is by far the best and fastest way to educate yourself in the RE business! You can find your mentor at local Real Estate Investor meetings, by contacting ‘I buy’ ads and websites, or attending Real Estate seminars. Take them to coffee! Pick their brains! But, most importantly, make yourself available and volunteer your time. It will be paid back in spades, I promise!

“In reading the lives of great men, I found that the first victory they won was over

themselves ... self-discipline with all of them came first.”

— Harry S. Truman: Was the thirty-third president of the U.S.

Your career, your family relationships, your wealth, your health, your personal goals — which of these life accomplishments make you most proud? Do you think it’s a coincidence that your proudest accomplishments in life are the very ones that took the most self-discipline? Absolutely not. Everything in life worth achieving takes a high degree of self-discipline. Now read them again: Your career, your family relationships, your wealth, your health, your personal goals. Are there any of those that you know you could improve upon in 2008? Do you know how to learn and have self-discipline?

Biz Idea for Kids By Sarah Cook

E-bay Extraordinaire – Become a Power Seller!

When my oldest son was 8 or so years old he asked if he could sell some of his things on e-Bay which is an on-line auction site. I didn’t know anything about it and we were in the middle of a terrible family crisis so I told him “no he would have to wait”. When he finally started selling on e-Bay he did great and made lots of money! You could too! You can sell just about anything on e-bay; even houses and cars. There are some things to be concerned about however so go to this website www.ben-lang.com/ to see what another young Biz Kid has to say about e-Bay.

To get started you will need to research what sells and for how much. To find things to sell you can clean out your house or go to yard sales and pick things up cheap. My son once bought a broken X-Box for $0.25 at a garage sale and then sold it for $45 on e-Bay. One person’s trash turned into treasure for him.

Be sure to go to http://www.RaisingBizKids.com, http://www.BizKidSuccssSummit.com, and http://www.SaturdayMorningMastermind.com to find out more ways that kids like you from around the world are making money!

The Value of Good AdviceReliable information is the most valuable asset on earth. Think of what the

outcome of D-Day might have been if Hitler knew in advance that the Allies would invade Normandy . How about the value of knowing in 1980 that a company named Microsoft would revolutionize the computer industry? The point is that good advice is potentially one of the truly priceless things on earth. A good lawyer can make this principle apply in your legal situations and help you either maximize an opportunity or minimize (or avoid) a problem. A timely meeting or telephone call to a trusted advisor can make all the difference. Use that resource to enhance the quality of your life and the value of your business.

Successful Thinkers By Darren Bocksnick

Success- Think it, Speak it, Live it!

To speak something, we must first have thought it. Those who think about success, typically speak about success because there is a certain dynamic that takes place when we speak what we think. Our words reinforce our belief system so that the results are magnified with more intensity.

So then, if successful thinking is what produces successful speaking and successful speaking is the key to magnifying successful results in our lives then what must we do to nurture successful thinking? To create a habitat for successful thinking, we must do those things that promote its growth. Here are a few pointers that help promote a healthy, successful thought process or mindset.

Feed your success-senses1) - Our minds are a field of opportunity that are ever ripe for harvest. Therefore, we must plant positive, success seeds if we are to yield a harvest of success. Listening to motivational CD’s or reading books on the subject of success will help change our minds from a lower level to a higher level, improving our lives in the process.

Create Successful Associations2) - We’ve all heard the statement: “we become a product of who we associate with”. This saying bears witness to an incredible truth. If we surround ourselves with successful-minded people who are making positive contributions to society; their successes will also spill-over into our lives so that we experience that same success for ourselves.

See Yourself as Successful- 3) Reading about how to be a success and networking with other successful people definitely has its merit and cannot be emphasized enough but until someone envisions his or herself as a success; those other things are a temporary fix at best. We must breath success, dream success, speak success and let it flow from the very fibers of our being if we are to live and be the successful person we’ve always dreamt of being.

So if our thoughts and our words really can have such a powerful impact on the results we have in life; it makes only good sense that we put success to the test and start thinking, speaking, acting and living successfully!

Worst SEX Ever Best title for an article though. Don’t you agree? I think I might have gotten the guys attention with that one. But I’m not telling any tales. Yet. Instead, this is the article where I complain and campaign against Sex in the City 2. Having been dragged to the show by three girl friends against my wishes and better judgment, but with full disclosure that my distaste for this movie might eventually end up in print, I’m baring all. Before I delve into the finer points of this movie (it’s going to take me awhile to think of any), let us examine the statement I just made. Did I go see Sex in the City because I really wanted to see a 1 ½ star movie? No. Did I go see the movie because I wanted to drool at their out of this world fashions? No.

Lovely as their outfits were, it was truly bizarre watching the four svelte girlfriends stroll through ancient bazaars or ride recalcitrant camels across shifting sand dunes, dressed in the latest “desert chic,” which was comprised of flowing designer dresses and heels. I still marvel at their ability to stay upright traipsing across the Sahara on four inch stilettos. I went to the movie for one reason only. To hang out with my girlfriends. It doesn’t matter what we do or what we see. The point is that we’re having fun. Together. When you take out the glitz, glamour, sequins, and stilettos, that’s what these gals were doing too. These fashionistas may reside in New York City and lead far more sophisticated lives than we do, but ultimately when they get together the main purpose is to share their thoughts and provide support for each other. Who else can you discuss your bio-hormonal issues with? Not your honey, certainly. He doesn’t want to know why things aren’t working like they used to. He just wants things fixed. One of the all time classic moments between girlfriends occurred when Charlotte and Miranda discussed the possibility that Charlotte’s husband might be having an affair with her nanny. Who else but a best friend would agree that the loss of a good nanny could be worse than the loss of a hubby? Although this may have been the worst afternoon “sex” I’ve ever encountered, what fun we had giggling about the movie afterwards. A priceless afternoon.

Boost Your Productivity: Invest in a Mobile Smart Phone

Experienced entrepreneurs know that effective time management is the key to maximizing personal productivity and your company’s profits. And today, I’m going to share with you my new favorite personal productivity tool…it’s my new smart phone.Smart phones have come a long way from the infamous “Crackberry” devices of yesteryear that seemed to merely tether us further to our e-mail inboxes. The leading mobile smart phones on the market today – Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android – are graceful devices that not only improve your productivity, but liberate you from your desk and office. The ability to read and respond to e-mail anytime, anywhere, can greatly help you stay on top of your inbox. Personally, I never realized how much time I previously lost while running day-to-day errands – such as standing in the grocery store line. Now, instead of scanning National Enquirer headlines, I’m cranking through e-mail – and best of all, my device automatically synchronizes with my desktop e-mail client. Pre-Android, I had to wrestle my large Windows laptop into operation just to get to e-mail. Now, it’s right in the palm of my hand, available on-demand.The liberation from my laptop has been huge – not only for productivity, but also for work/life balance. On nights and weekends, I’m no longer a “slave to the computer” – instead, I can monitor email and other key business stats as I please – right from the comfort of my couch, or dining room table. So take it from me – go out and invest in a smart phone, if you don’t have one already. You’ll be glad you did.

Smart IPv6 Building Announced near United Nations in Geneva Digital and Internet technologies have reshaped our world. The emergence of the new Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) will further transform our environment. It will enable billions of devices to have their own IP address, to be interconnected and to work together. It is paving the way to the future Internet of things, in which sensors, actuators and devices will be directly connected to each other, with an almost unlimited scalability. The Smart IPv6 building project in Geneva, Switzerland intends to explore this IPv6 potential in buildings in the interest of energy conservation. It will test innovative forms of interactions, by transforming buildings into smart and interactive environments, with pervasive and distributed intelligence. It will also develop the potential of IPv6 to improve buildings’ energy efficiency and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through a smarter building management. The Smart IPv6 building provides an international platform for research, academic and industrial partners, coordinated by Mandat International with the support of the IPv6 Forum. The Smart IPv6 building project will be deployed and tested in a real situation with an existing building, and latter with a new construction in the middle of the international organizations area in Geneva: the “International Cooperation House”. This building will provide budget accommodation and support for experts and delegates with limited resources coming from developing countries to attend international conferences, as well as offices for organizations working with the United Nations system. The central location and high visibility of this new building will be used to showcase and promote IPv6 based technologies. You can learn more about the progress of this project by visiting this website: www.SmartIPv6Building.org

Indian Creek Falls Nice hike along the beautiful North Fork American River, to 30 ft. cascade. Near Colfax, CA. 2.8 miles round trip. About 1 ½ hours. Moderate difficulty. Indian Creek Falls is a small double fall cascading down a small creek along the beautiful North Fork American River. The total height of the cascade is 30 ft., and is best seen in the spring early summer. At the trailhead, you have to cross over fast rushing Shirttail Creek. You may or may not be able to find a safe place to wade across. You should be able to rock hop across, but by this time of year, Indian Creek will be at lower flow. Try coming in early July. Once across Shirttail Creek, the trail follows easily along the river. Including Shirttail, Indian Creek is the 5th creek you will come to along the trail. Once at Indian Creek, you have to scramble up the creek about 15 minutes to the falls. It is slippery and difficult in places. Trailhead: From I-80 (heading east) at Colfax, take the Colfax / Grass Valley exit. Take the first right onto Canyon Way, and drive 2.2 miles to Yankee Jim’s Rd. Turn left and drive 4.7 miles to the bridge over the river. Park at the side of the road. The road turns to dirt but is okay for cars.

Bassi Falls - El Dorado Natl Forest

Short hike to this incredible waterfall, near Placerville, CA., hike time about 1 hour. 1.2 mile round trip.

It’s an easy 10 minute walk from the parking area to the falls. But the trail is not all that clear. At first the trail is easy to follow, but soon reaches an open area, where you have to make your way over granite rock, and the trail becomes indistinct. But it is not hard to find the falls because you can clearly hear it, and eventually you will see it from a distance away. When we were here on a Sunday afternoon in early May, there were surprisingly quite a few cars parked at the trailhead. When you reach the base of Bassi Falls, you will be treated to an awesome view of the entire 120 ft. cascade. Later in the summer, there is really not much to see, as Bassi Creek becomes a mere fragment of its former self.

Trailhead: From Hwy #50 about 20 miles east of Placerville, turn left (north) onto Ice House Rd (Forest Road 3). Drive 16.6 miles on Ice House Rd. to Union Valley Reservoir. Turn right onto an unmarked dirt road (Road 12N32A), just after crossing the bridge over Big Silver Creek (opposite Big Silver group camp). Drive 0.2 miles to a junction and turn left. Then drive 0.8 miles to another junction and turn right. Drive another 0.7 miles to the trailhead at the end of the road (total 1.7 miles along the dirt road).

Folsom Powerhouse Like so many others, Horatio Gates Livermore got caught up in the gold rush and came to Folsom in 1850 seeking gold, apparently with no success. A native of Maine, he was familiar with logging and saw possibilities in the American River for water wheels to power a sawmill and a river to float logs from the mountains to the mill. By 1862, he and his sons gained control of Natoma Water and Mining Company. They addedsome 9,000 acres to the company’s assets to obtain the water rights so they could float logs down stream. But, they also needed to build a dam above Folsom to create a holding area for logs, and power a sawmill. Construction on the dam began in 1867, but the Livermore’s soon decided they needed convict labor to minimize their costs. In exchange for 350 acres for a prison site, the State Prison Board agreed to provide the labor. Unfortunately, the Livermore’s couldn’t get their workers until the prison was complete in 1880. The dam was finally completed in 1893 but by then it was obvious that floating logs down the river through a multitude of boulders was more difficult than anticipated. They began to realize there was more potential in using the water from their dam to turn generators and produce

electricity than in using it to turn water wheels. In addition, there was ample demand for this electricity 22 miles downstream in Sacramento. At that time, the longest overhead run of electricity was five miles so there were many skeptics. Still, they persisted, having generators shipped around Cape Horn, and on July 13, 1895 they began delivery of electricity over 22 miles, the longest run in the world, to Sacramento. The Powerhouse continued operation until November of 1952. That year the old dam was destroyed as part of the construction of the new Folsom Dam. It is now preserved as a part of the California State Park System. It is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 4:00 pm. It is an interesting tour and well worth the time. Near the Rainbow bridge in Folsom.

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” —Helen Keller: Author, activist and lecturer

How many risks do you take a day? Not physical risks such as skydiving — but rather, living new experiences, learning new things, creating new ideas, meeting new people and living each day as if it might be your last. When you ask some people how they are doing, they’ll answer, “Same old, same old.” They aren’t living for each day. They aren’t taking risks. They will probably never find success. Start now by deciding how you can finish your day so it’s unlike any day you’ve ever lived. You can live a far more daring life and find success while you do.

Check list of do’s & don’ts of “Interview Attire” Research has proven, in the first 4 minutes of an interview, the potential employer makes 11 judgments about the interviewed. 55% are based on APPEARANCE, 37% on PRESENTATION and ONLY 7% on what you SAY! I was recently a key-note speaker for the Sacramento Job Journal Job Expo 2010. It was heart breaking to see so many skilled individuals trying to land the few jobs on the current market. It’s Your MoneyWhat’s a safe place to put your IRA, 401k, or savings?

Is it a Certificate of Deposit (CD), a bank account, stocks, insurance, or something else?Do you get a great return on your money? When you put your money in one of these products, do you know what they do with your money? Many of these money products are invested in Real Estate. The organization that manages your money gets a great return and gives you a little piece of the profit. Is there another secure way of getting a better return on you money? Yes there is. You could be a lender yourself. With the first position (first mortgage) on a property that someone is willing to pay you 6% interest. The property has to be a solid opportunity. You’d be able to go see and touch the property, and know you’re the lien holder. I have a home I’ve owned for over 30 years, and don’t plan on selling. I’d be open to paying someone through their IRA, 401K 6% interest on the loan secured against the house. Or maybe you’d rather get a higher return than your Certificate of Deposit gets. Or maybe you have a better idea. Call me Gary 916-224-6624.

Life and You Comments

Motivation: the “it” that moves us forward Reading my email I came across this question: “What’s Your Favorite Motivational Quote?” and I had to pause and think, it had been a while since I engaged in reading or writing my most inspirational phrases. Then I read: “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” by Wayne Gretsky; and that was the beginning of a lingering introspection into my own motivational meter. By the way, how is your motivational meter? Challenges are part of everyday life, and motivation is an important element and very often determines how quickly you can grasp the root of a problem; or how effective you can be when faced with tough decisions, and whether you are risk-adverse or a risk-taker. Motivation enables you to keep a positive outlook. I often derive motivation from reading quotes, and like poetry, they transcend to reach my inner fears or to fill me with courage. Like a quote from Winston Churchill: “If you are going through Hell, keep going.” and “to thine own self be true” and “...imagination is more important than knowledge.” And this one by Leonardo da Vinci: “Every obstacle Yields to Effort” that one reminds me that it is up to me, if it is to be. As Henry Ford said: “When everything seems to be going against you, remember that an airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.” Sometimes we forget the life lessons we have learned, and that those efforts made in the past help us in our future. So, after reading more inspiring quotes, I know that filling my motivational meter counts; and that it helps me to strengthen my resolve to move forward. As Churchill put it “Never, ever, ever, ever, ever give up!” and my personal favorite: “...ultimately, my hope is to amaze myself.”

Observation of the News• Helen Thomas has “retired” after telling a Jewish online news service last week that Jews should “get the hell out of Palestine” and “go home”. It’s about 20 years past the time when someone should have said to her, “Get the hell out of the White House Press Room....go home to the Labyrinth” • President Obama spoke to high school graduates in Michigan and told them “not to make excuses and to take responsibility for failures as well as successes”. This is the same guy who since he has been in office (and while campaigning before it) has blamed the Bush administration for everything from the economy to the war on terror to the bank bailouts and the BP oil rig explosion. He takes ZERO responsibility for his failed policies and false campaign promises and runs the most thin-skinned administration this country has ever seen.• 46 year-old Whitney Houston reportedly looked “bloated and sweaty” as she delivered another disappointing show in Denmark. I can relate to the whole “bloated and sweaty” look while I sit at my desk working but then again, nobody is paying me the kind of money they’re paying Whitney to sing off-key and forget the words to her own songs. Life with Bobby Brown sure did a number on this poor woman. • John Wooden passed away this week at the age of 99. While he is known for the spectacular records he set while coaching the UCLA Bruins Men’s Basketball team from 1948 to 1975, his character, faith and life lessons are what touched people the most. My 2 favorites quotes are: Talent is God-given. Be humble. Fame is man-given. Be grateful. Conceit is self-given. Be careful.... and the other is: You can’t let praise or criticism get to you. It’s a weakness to get caught up in either one....
