The High School Provincials were held in Melita on March 12, 13 and 14. The Devils first game was against the Morris Mavericks which ended in a 4-4 tie. The second game was against Deloraine Colts, which was a 6-0 loss. This sent the Devils to the consolation side, losing to the Major Pratt Trojans.

The Melita/Waskada Devils would like to take this time to extend their appreciation to the com - munities of Melita and Waskada for all of their sup - port throughout the season. For everything from sponsoring the programs to attending the steak fry to buying squares on the scoreboard, volunteering at the Provincial tournament and donating items for the raffle table and the Jet’s tickets. The support shown to the team by the attendance at games throughout the season was amazing. The team is very grateful for all the support they have received this year.

The Melita/Waskada Devils, players and parents, would like to send a big thank you to Scott Behrmann and Nathan Lee for their time and dedi - cation towards the team. Without such commitment, a team would not succeed the way the Devils did this year - from building confidence to working on skills to showing self-discipline both on and off the ice. Thanks again Coach Behrmann and Coach Lee for your commitment to the team.

Redvers Ag Ex Trade Show back in 2015 submitted

After taking a year off, the Redvers Ag Ex Committee is pleased to announce that Ag Ex will return in 2015 with two significant changes. The show will be held on June 2 (rather than in April) and will be open from 1:00 - 7:00 p.m. to allow an oppor - tunity for everyone to attend. Over 100 exhibitors and close to 700 visitors have rated this event as one of southeast Saskatchewan’s best Trade Shows.

The Redvers Ag Ex Trade Show will feature not only precision agriculture dis - plays, environmental information and innovative crop technology but also a variety of Home and Leisure and Lifestyle booths, all under one roof at the Redvers Recreation Centre.

Including the young people of the community is an important part of Ag Ex. Children’s activities include Brian Chicoine’s petting zoo, always a favourite, along with face painting and One Church Bouncy Houses. The Redvers Wranglers 4-H Light Horse Club will be giving pony rides from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. There will be a nominal charge for the face painting and pony rides.

The Alida 4-H Beef Club will be showcasing their calves in advance of their Achievement Day which is being held on June 12.

Stop in for a coffee and piece of pie and support the Moose Mountain Air Cadets. The Redvers Firefighters will be serving supper from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. as a fund -

raiser for the new firehouse. Give the cook the night off and support this worthy cause.

The Redvers Ag Ex Committee are selling tickets on your choice of 1) $1,000 worth of fuel, 2) JD barbecue or Stihl tools or 3) $1,000 gift certificate to Today’s Enterprises. Tickets are also available at the Town Office, Affinity Credit Union and Today’s Enterprises.

Looking for an avenue to showcase your product or service? Information and reg - istration forms are available on our website at redversagex.ca. For additional infor - mation, questions or to book a booth call 306-452-7771 or email redversagex@hot - mail.com

WRAY - In memory of Robert Wray. The Golden Gates softly opened

One year ago today. With good byes left unspoken,

You quietly passed away. God gave us strength to bear it And courage to stand the blow And what it meant to lose you

No one will ever know. ~ Remembered by Maxine and family.

DRIER - In memory of Jerry Drier. Memories are treasures no one can steal

Heartaches are something no one can heal. Some may forget you now that you are gone But we will remember no matter how long.

~ Winnie Drier and family.

O BITUARY WRAY

Donald John Wray, 1955 - 2015 Don passed away on January 26, 2015 at Brandon Regional Health Centre with family by his side, at the age of 59. He was born in Reston on June 13, 1955, the third son of John and Mabel Wray and was raised on the farm at Tilston with his elder brothers, Bill and Ken and his younger sister Sharon. He always felt very lucky that his grandma, Ethel Moir, lived with their family, off and on, for most of his growing up years. Don had a special relationship with Grandma. Don was a true farm boy, milking cows from an early age and doing chores and whatever other tasks his parents assigned. He had a deep love and respect for his parents, and truly appreciated all they had done to help him. Don lived all of his life in the Tilston District and almost all of it on Section 27-5-29, growing up on the SW 1/4, and raising his own family on the NE 1/4. He started school at Tilston and finished at Pierson, graduating in 1973. Don loved sports and played baseball and hockey into his adult life. Like his parents, he was very

community minded, was involved in many community groups, coached minor sports, and was always willin g to lend a hand. After finishing school, Don began farming with his Dad and brother Ken, raising mixed grains, cattle and sometimes pigs. They also began building their registered Polled Hereford herds. Eventually, Donʼs h erd came to be known as Mil-Wray Polled Herefords. In 1974, Don began dating Wanda Millions from Fertile. Don spent countless hours at the Millions far m, a popular gathering place for young people. He called Wandaʼs mother “Mom” long before they started da ting! Never a man to rush into anything, Don dated Wanda for seven years before they were married in 1981. Their father had retired from farming, and Don and Ken continued their partnership until the time of his death. The brothers had such a strong, unique bond. Their ability to co-operate and get things done in an e fficient manner was a marvel to many. Some days they barely spoke as they went about their chores, but they k new what needed to be done, and they did it. There is no one on this earth who Don admired or respected more than Ken. Ken and Judyʼs children Jaime, Derek and Brett, and grandchildren Lily, Lucas, Hadlee and Spencer, w ere also particularly special to Don. He loved them like his own. Don had a very special place in the hearts of all of his nieces and nephews both Wray and Millions. They all loved Uncle Don and he adored them all. When the y visited the farm, he would take anyone who wanted to go with him over to do chores. He gave countles s sleigh rides with the horses, and loved to have the kids ride with him in the combine or tractor. Don was a big bear of a man, who would do anything to help anyone, but had a true soft spot for kids. He coached, gave kids rides, carried hockey bags, tied skates, twisted calves tails, opened gates, washed calves, and offered adv ice with his unique dry sense of humour. He had a quiet, hilarious way of telling stories about the most ordinary things, and would have everyone smiling in no time. The business and personal relationships that Don developed in the Hereford industry were very import ant to him. He enjoyed time spent travelling to sales, and visiting at events. He built long, enduring friendshi ps. He told Wanda many times that he sometimes hated cows, but his cattle friends made it all OK. The large atte ndance of Hereford breeders at the funeral was a true tribute to Don, from his industry friends and peers. Don and Wanda welcomed their son Tyler into their family in 1987, and daughter Lenna in 1990. This began the most important, all consuming job of Donʼs life. He was an incredible husband and Dad. His family, a nd especially his kids, were always his first priority. He juggled chores around their activities, spen ding countless hours taking them to hockey, ball, 4-H, and school events. He rarely missed a Christmas concert, spo rting event, speech night, piano recital, or whatever else they were involved in. It didnʼt matter. If they were participating, he was there. He left the field in the spring to coach Tylerʼs ball teams, and regularly manned a gate on their hockey team benches. Some of Tyler and Lennaʼs best memories of their Dad are from their times spent with him on the farm . They spent countless hours, just tagging along after their Dad. He was always happiest when he was just a t home with Wanda and the kids. As adults, Don continued to follow the lives of his children, worrying abou t them, and celebrating their successes. He was incredibly proud of both Tyler and Lenna, and considered them hi s greatest achievements in life. Don and Wanda had been married for over 33 years, and had been together for over 40. His loss has le ft a hole in Wandaʼs heart and life that can never be filled. Don was predeceased by his father John, brother Bill, grandma Ethel Moir, in-laws Marie and Garnet M illions, and sister-in-law Judy Millions. His memory will live forever in the hearts of his wife Wanda, son Tyler, daughter Lenna, and mother Mabel. He is sadly missed by his brother Ken (Judy) Wray, sister Sharon (Gerry) Brick, sister-in-law Valorie W ray (Lee Adams) and by Wandaʼs siblings, Deanna (Ron) Hoffman, Brian Millions, Blaine (Debbie) Millions, Clar e (Aggie) Millions, Lorraine (Brad) Kellington, Vern (Corrine) Millions, Vaughn (Lori) Millions, numerous niec es and nephews and countless friends. The celebration of Donʼs life was held February 2, 2015 in the Tilston Community Hall. Reverend Barb Alston officiated, with Wendy Anderson as pianist. Urnbearers were Wanda and Tyler. Caitlyn and Daniel Bri ck gave the family eulogy, which was beautifully written by Lenna. Duncan Lees spoke on behalf of the Herefo rd fraternity. Jason Kellington sang “Go Rest High on that Mountain,” David Kellington gave a reading “ Raised in a Barn,” and Brett Skeoch read a poem she had composed, “Side by Side”. Paul Harveyʼs “So God made a Farmer” was played during the service, congregational hymns were “Joyful, Joyful” and “One Day at a Time”, and “The Cowboy Rides Away” by George Strait, was played as the recessional. The Tilston 4-H Beef Cl ub members, leaders and parents formed an honour guard. This was such a lovely tribute, by a group that was so very special to Don. Burial followed in the Tilston Cemetery. Lunch was served in the Tilston Hall. Funeral arrangements were with Redpath Funeral Home, Melita. Wanda, Tyler and Lenna are grateful for the life built and the time spent with Don. His love was a gift from God. Many people are never fortunate enough to experience the kind of love that they shared. They were very privileged to have been such important parts of a life well lived. Don will be missed by all who knew him.

Life ends. Love is endless.

Celebrations Student Services Review

- On March 10, Provincial Student Services Consultants Mary-Anne Ploshynsky and Kate Roberts met with SHSD Administrators and Resource Team to provide feedback regarding our Provincial

Student Services Review. The consultants spent 1.5 days in January visiting schools, meeting with staff and observing funded stu - dents. The purpose of the review was to verify the attendance and continued eli - gibility of funded students, review our IEP process and policies, to follow up on goals set during the previous review, and to discuss plans for future planning. Consultants reported that our funded students’ attendance and eligibility are secure, all goals set during the previous review have been met, and appropriate policies are in place.

IEP development using CLEVR was noted, including highlights of classroom teachers acting as case man - agers, appropriate parental involvement and opportunity for involvement, and consis - tent, ongoing documentation of student growth. They commended our staff for their team approach to meet - ing students’ needs including the use of class and student profiles, TAG groups, tran - sition practises from year to year, regular meetings with Senior Administration, and our use of data. The

Consultants expressed appre - ciation for our work in build - ing trust and respect within our schools through Restitution training.

Next steps include: • Clarity in the writing of

student goals on IEPs. • Continue to support staff

in the use of data to plan for inclusion.

Congratulations to Melita/ Waskada Schools and com - munities for hosting a very successful and enjoyable High School Hockey Provincial Championship, March 12-14. Congratulations to Souris School and community for hosting a very successful and enjoyable High School Girls AA Basketball Provincial Championship, March 19-21.

Congratulations to all of our students who played hard, entertained their fans, and represented their schools. Congratulations to the Souris Sabres Girls Basketball Team for winning Bronze and to the Deloraine/Hartney Colts High School Hockey Team for winning Bronze as well.

Welcome to Kindergarten - In the past our schools have hosted an annual Kindergarten Screening day during which time new

Kindergarten students are invited to the classroom to get to know their teacher, classroom and school, and vice versa. This year stu - dents and parents will attend a Welcome to Kindergarten Session in each of our schools. Groups of students will have the opportunity to play and explore in the class - room with their teacher while other students will meet one on one with the resource teacher, school psychologist, SLP, Student Services Coordinator or Superintendent and complete the Early Years Evaluation Tool (EYE Assessment). Kindergarten teachers will arrange a follow up meeting with each parent in order to share the results of this devel - opmental assessment and provide suggestions for par - ents to use during the sum - mer months with their child. It is our intent that parents will gain a clearer under - standing of their child’s developmental needs and how these might best be addressed through play.

ELA Curriculum - A draft of the new ELA Curriculum (K-8) is currently available and a draft for 9-12 ELA is still in progress. This new

curriculum will be piloted in a few divisions in the fall of 2015.

PROJECT 11 - Inspired and created in honor of Rick Rypien #11, former player of the Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose, PROJECT 11 is available to support stu - dents in Grades 5 to 8 with virtual tutorials educating stu - dents of positive mental health. PROJECT 11 is an engaging cross-curricular prevention program targeting ELA and PE/Health out - comes. The program entails 15 lesson plans (1/week) and 60 daily activities to help support students and teachers on mental health wellness and bringing positive coping skills into their lives. PROJECT 11 uses concepts such as practicing focusing the mind, increasing self- awareness of feelings and strengths, and building posi - tive relationships.

The Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation in partner - ship with Healthy Child Manitoba asked for Pilot classrooms for the first pilot in February 2015. Shannon Lee, Grade 5/6 teacher in Pierson School applied and was accepted.
