Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

On June 17th, The Diocese will host a Listening Session at Holy Family Parish in the Church at 6:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. I had men-

tioned this to you before however the location had changed since I last wrote about it.

The Listening Session will be an opportunity for the Diocese to discuss the recommendation made by the Jasper Deanery Core Group

to the Bishop. The Bishop and Tim McGuire, COO of the Diocese will be present to discuss the process and to listen to the people

from St. Joseph, Holy Family, St. Mary and Precious Blood parishes. The Listening Session provides an opportunity for parishioners

to voice their concerns and hopes about the proposed recommendations. I strongly encourage you to attend this meeting as well and we

look forward to hearing your ideas and hope to make our parishes vibrant and viable for the next generation.

Memorial Day is a United States national holiday observed on the last Monday of May. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it com-

memorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil

War, it was expanded after World War I. Today many traditions continue around this holiday.

Please keep those who sacrificed all for our country and peace in our world in your prayers. Here is a prayer I offer for all veterans

who have died. May they rest in peace.

God, lift the hearts of those for whom this holiday is not just diversion, but painful memory and continued albescence. Bless those

whose dear ones have died in accident or misadventure. We remember with compassion those who have died serving our country in

the futility of combat. Comfort all those who mourn. We believe that you will provide for us as others have been provided with the ful-

fillment of "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Fr. Gary

St. Mary Preschool

We sure have learned a lot about Jesus this year in our Bible stories. Luckily, it doesn’t have to end just be-

cause school is out. Martha and Connie stopped by our class-room and talked to our students about Vacation Bible School! Most of our students were part of Vacation Bible School last year. They are eager to sign up and come back this summer as well!

Our school year has come to an end! Twenty-three amazing boys and girls graduated from preschool this week! Their bright smiles and sweet hugs will be missed tremendously. However, we are proud to have so many of our first year stu-dents coming back this fall for their second year of preschool!

I have been so blessed this year, my first year, here at St. Mary Preschool. The students, families, and staff here at St. Mary Church have been wonderful to work with. I am looking for-ward to many more years of teaching preschool here!

Ms. Lauren The St. Mary Preschool teaching team invites you to register

your child for the 2014-2015 school year. Students eligible for

the Year One, 3-4 year old class, must be potty-trained and be

3 years old by August 1, 2014. Classes for the Year One stu-

dents will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-11:00 or

12-3:00. Students eligible for the Year Two, 4-5 year-old

class, must be 4 years old by August 1, 2014. Class sessions

for the Year Two students will be held on Mondays and

Wednesdays from 8-11:00 or 12-3:00. Call Lauren Emerson at

482-7041, ext 40.

Sometime we all need a simple reminder. Please turn off your

cell phones when coming to Mass. We just want to remind

everyone to please be respectful of those around you.

Thank you!!

Picnic with the Bishop

Do you think that you’re alone in considering a call to

priesthood, religious life or lay church ministry? Join

others for a relaxing evening with Bishop Thompson on Thurs-

day, June 5 at 4:30pm at St. John Parish, Daylight. Anyone in

high school or older is welcome to attend. We’ll have Mass,

presentations by priests, religious brothers and sisters and lay

church ministers, followed by supper and some time to have

fun. Contact your parish office if you are interested or email

Cathy Crowdus at [email protected] or call 812-424-5536 to

make reservations.

There is an Eagle Scout within our parish that is thinking of

updating our play area. As a parish, we can help him by

saving our plastic caps off our containers. There is a place in

Evansville which will take our plastic caps and turn them into

landscape timbers. These timbers will never need painting,

will not rot and do not leach harmful chemicals. Please save

your caps, must be clean and contain no metal, and bring them

to the parish office or put on the parish office porch. We also

have a parishioner who is willing to buy a bench for the play

area that will be made of these recycled caps.

Help Us Get Ready for

September 14, 2014 — Picnic Sunday

Before long, it will be picnic time and we all know our homemade

quilts are a big reason that people come and stay on picnic day.

We are lucky enough to have dedicated volunteers who quilt on

Mondays and Wednesdays and also in their homes. Would you be

willing to get 11 family members, neighbors or friends together to

donate $30 a piece to buy material and have a quilt quilted for our

picnic? You do not have to quilt or even buy a quilt, we will take

care of that. All of your names will be attached to the finished quilt

and displayed at the quilt show and picnic day. Call Sherri or

Dianne at the parish office, 482-7041, for more information. We

will be making phone calls to parishioners who are not currently

on the quilt list. If you are currently on a quilt group, send your

donation in at any time and mark it “quilt donation”.

Bosco Wednesday nights: Bosco House open for high school students

7:00-9:30pm.

Rock Your Faith: Contact Carley if you want to work on the

Team for Rock Your Faith, June 23-26 at St. Joe. Anyone enter-

ing grade 11 and older is eligible to be on the team, 812-481-2442

or [email protected].

Teen Mass will be on June 8 at 6:00pm at Precious Blood.

Care Notes from Abbey Press - Check out these resources

available in the back of church in the Care Note holder on the

wall. These pamphlets address issues we deal with in our eve-

ry day lives: illness, death, depression, family relationships,

youth and self esteem to name a few. Gather insights about

constructive ways to bring healing into your lives and the lives

of others. Take one for yourself or give one to someone you

know that might need one. Complements of your parish.

Workers not only want fair pay, they also want to share in the responsibility and creativity of the very work process. They want to feel that they are working for themselves - an aware-ness that is smothered in a bureaucratic system where they only feel themselves to be “cogs” in a huge machine moved from above.
