STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
Philip understood very well Jesus’ words: “If
you love me, you will keep my commandments.” We
learn of Philip’s devotion to prayer, evangelizing and healing
in the region of Samaria, made up of communities that would
not be very receptive to the followers of Jesus. Philip is a
model steward, living his discipleship day by day in the Lord
without being obstructed by feelings of what cost his actions
might entail. Good stewards summon the courage to proclaim
the Lord and to serve him by ministering to others. As an
Easter people, eager to rejoice in the Lord, it is important to
reflect on how we are living out our own commitment to disci-
pleship.

YOUTH COMMISSION MEMBERS
We are looking for parents for the Youth Commission. We
need your voice, your ideas and your vision; please come share
your talents. Background check and Safe Environment Train-
ing are required. Thank you for answering the call.
WHAT IS A HOLY LIFE? Our lives are complicated. We are bombarded every moment by
distractions--personal, family, work and, lest we forget, techno-
logical issues. Our faith encourages us to daily forsake our will
and do the will of God. We also are encouraged to pray, asking
God for his assistance so that his will can be done in us.
What have others written about how to live a life that is totally
focused on God? How do we live a perfect holy life in a chal-
lenging world? “The words 'I want to be holy' mean I will di-
vest myself of everything that is not of God; I will divest myself
and empty my heart of material things. I will renounce my own
will, my inclinations, my whims, my fickleness; and I will be-
come a generous slave to God’s will” (Kerry Walters, St. Teresa
of Calcutta: Missionary, Mother, Mystic).
Sister Joan Chittister says we are to be attuned to God if we are
to become fully human; “striving to come to fullness is the na-
ture of the human condition, and without that how can anyone
be truly holy?”
The sixth century book, The Order of Saint Benedict: The Rule
of Benedict, contains a chapter entitled “Of Humility.” The idea
that stands out is we are to “keep the fear of God always before
our eyes and never forget it” and our God sees the thoughts of
our hearts. The fear of the Lord that the Rule of St. Benedict
calls for is not so much the fear of hell as it is the “fear of the
Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Prov. 1:7).
“Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts.
Always be ready to give an explanation
to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope,
but do it with gentleness and reverence,
keeping your conscience clear,
so that, when you are maligned,
those who defame your good conduct in Christ
may themselves be put to shame.
For it is better to suffer for doing good,
if that be the will of God, than for doing evil" (1 Pet. 3:15-17).
"Purity of heart, singleness of mind, means focusing my vision
totally on God. Looking only to God is the purpose, the goal,
and the meaning of my life. If I have that kind of vision, if I
really look that way I’ll see God as Jesus tells me: 'Blessed are
the pure in heart for they will see God' (Matthew
5:8)." (Hilarion Kistner and Judy Martino Zarick, The Gospels
According to Saint Francis).
“Lord, we often do not know what we ask. At times our zeal to
serve you and be close to you leads us astray. Help us to always
temper our zeal with the wisdom of your Son’s cross, so that we
will be willing to lay down our lives in service to our brothers
and sisters and extend your kingdom in this world. Amen” (Fr.
Andrew Gawrych, CSC).

100 Things Every Catholic Should Know: Are you saved?
Salvation is a gift. It is a free gift from God. It is also a gift that
we can choose to leave unopened. Imagine the largest gift under
the Christmas tree. It has your name on it. You know it will be
the best gift ever! But you have to give up all the others to re-
ceive it. God wants us to have faith in knowing that giving up all
things for him only leads to be best gift of all. When asked are
you saved? You could say “Yes, I have been saved by Jesus’
death and resurrection. I am being saved through the help of the
Holy Spirit in the Sacraments, walking everyday with Christ my
Savior. And I hope to be saved when Christ my Redeemer comes
again.” Remember is it your choice. Which gift will you choose?
Youth CORE: Life Teen, Edge and Rooted need core members.
If you are 19 years or older we need you to come share your gifts.
Background check and Safe Environment Training required. We
are willing to take those with limited time.
Paul’s Project: Please contact Rose if you are willing to help
with phase two. We need group leaders and tools, including miter
saws and electric nail guns. The goal is to have two buildings
going on at the same time. The dates of consideration are June 10
and ll or June 24 and 25. Please let me know if you can commit to
either of these dates. It’s a whole weekend project, and we need to
make sure we can get these done in one weekend.
