KWS Fido is the highest yielding variety on the HGCA DescriptiveList, with yields 7% ahead of other leading varieties. It has stiffstraw and is early to ripen. KWS Fido has a superb specific weight.
Triticale is well suited for bioethanol production, with its inherently highfermentable carbohydrates and soluble proteins. In addition, triticale isvery productive in NVZs and under lower input systems.
Sowing dateKWS Fido can be drilled from September onwards.
Seed rate150kg/ha (approximately 275 seeds/m2) in good conditions.
Fertiliser requirementOn lighter soils the suggested rate is 130kg/ha. However, KWS Fido’sperformance may improve at higher rates. First nitrogen applicationsshould be made in late February with the main application prior tofirst node.
The nitrogen use efficiency of triticale has been clearly demonstratedin the UK, where over five seasons it has outperformed wheat at 15 outof 20 trial sites across a range of nitrogen rates. Weeds, diseaseKWS Fido grows rapidly in the spring and is usually quite competitiveagainst weeds.
With increasing disease pressure yellow rust has now been found in manyvarieties currently on the HGCA Descriptive List. KWS Fido shows someresistance to the current races. However, growers should be aware anduse a fungicide where appropriate. Please consult your agronomist.
PGRKWS Fido has taller, but stiff straw and may benefit from a PGRapplication.
HarvestKWS Fido is an earlier variety, harvested around thesame time as wheat. It produces a slightly greatervolume of straw.
