KIN 545 – Perceptual Motor Development
Daily Lesson Plans/Weekly Logs
Off - campus
First
• Go to http://www.missouristate.edu/PMDL/
• Download the “off campus practicum requirements” document from the student information section
– Peruse this information
• Keep a copy for yourself and submit a copy to your practicum teacher
Procedures• You are required to submit four formal lesson
plans on-line (Blackboard Lesson Plans) at the end of the semester
• You do not have to present formal lesson plans for each meeting at your site
• Your lesson plans may be formatted in the style that you use in your department as long as they include:– Your name/the date
– Objectives
– Activities engaged in
Your 4 Lesson Plans
• You should not include the real name of the child you are working with!
• Gender and age should be included
Procedures - continued
• You must write a daily or weekly log – worth 20% of your practicum grade - of your laboratory experience which should include:– Highlights
– Lowlights
– Issues of significance
– Perspectives on progress or lack of
– Your discoveries – teaching and motivational techniques, behavior issues, things that work and/or do not work with this child, etc. regarding the child with whom you are working
Procedures -
• Submit the Log weekly via Journal on Blackboard
• Access Lesson Plans and Weekly Logs in the left column of your course Blackboard Site. Read and follow the directions listed.
• BE SURE to send your daily/weekly logs by 12pm Monday (latest) of the week after your practicum meetings
Lab Procedures - continued
• Unless otherwise indicated, you should meet with your child twice a week for 1 hour per session
• Before you meet with your assigned child, you should his/her situation with your cooperating teacher
• Utilize the laboratory manual for ideas for your activities
• Note* - there are numerous other resources for activities in the lab cabinet
Policies
• Attendance*** (Class)– Attendance will be taken in each class via Turning Point
Response Cards or Response Ware devices
– If you miss class, you should access the appropriate PowerPoint lecture on Blackboard
– Do Not call or e-mail and ask me to call you back and go over what you missed in class – First - check the Sequence of topics handout the information is on the PowerPoint lecture under course documents on blackboard – other pertinent information will be listed under blackboard announcements
– In class credit bearing assignments are completed in class
Lecture Attendance (continued)
• In order to receive credit for in class points, you are required to be in class during the activity
– Everyone will receive 13 free points at the end of the semester to accommodate for what I consider an acceptable number of absences
– If you are ill, please DO NOT ask me how to make up missed points; the 13 free points are designed for this purpose.

• If you have a field trip in another class or other related non-KIN 545 assignment and miss class on any given day, you will still lose points in this class for non-attendance
• NCAA sponsored events are the only exception to this rule; if you are an NCAA sponsored athlete, however, you must make arrangements with the instructor to make up the missed work to receive credit for the missed class

• If you have to miss a lab session
– First, call the teacher first and cancel; don’t wait until the last minute
– Second, call or e-mail me, so I know that you will not be here
– Be sure to include the reason why you are missing/missed your session
• If you fail to follow this procedure you will lose half of your practicum grade (unless there is a documented emergency)

• Lab Observations
– I will try to observe everyone in the labs at least once, assuming I have no teaching schedule conflict; I WILL NOT schedule any observations in advance; I’ll just arrive at your site at any arbitrary time.
– If I visit you at your placement and you are not there and I have not been forewarned, you will be removed from the practicum and you will not be reassigned to any other practicum. This translates to 0 points in any practicum related assignment(s).
Procedures - other
• First Few Days –
– Get to know the situation that you are working in and work with the cooperating teacher to determine the child with whom you will be working; establish communication with the teacher from the first day regarding what happens in your setting maintain this communication throughout the semester
– Be on time! every day
– Engage the child in activities for about 20 minutes per meeting
• Dress appropriately for the lab
Instructor’s role
• Your cooperating teacher has the last word in your placement
• I will intervene in the laboratory only if absolutely necessary

Finally ~• A word to the wise
– This is a rarity …. But
• If you do not take this placement seriously, I’ll warn you once
• If you continue to not take the placement seriously, I’ll remove you from your practicum and NOT reassign you to another practicum setting
• If a cooperating teacher or building supervisor complainsabout your work or lack of with your assigned child, and I deem that the complaint is valid, I will remove you from the practicum and not reassign you to another setting In addition I will refer the teacher/supervisor to your department chair, and will send my own letter to that individual regarding the complaint

• Be sure that you have reviewed the Turning Technologies rules and requirements (Response Cards and Response Ware) located on your syllabus.
• Be sure you have reviewed the grading procedures for this class located on your syllabus.
