  • Daecheon Beach is the place to be!

Most people know it for the location of the Mud Festival that takes place every year in July but it is so much more than that.

Daecheon (also called Boryeong) is a city located right on the beach in the Southern Chungcheong Province next to the Yellow Sea. Its a peaceful, beautiful, and a relaxing place to escape to from the business of daily life.

The beach runs as far as the eye can see. It has a very low tide during the day with plenty of room to build sand castles, play frisbee, bathe in the sun, and you can bring your dog! Sadly, our dog Lakota did not join us on this trip but we scouted out the places to take her next time.

There is also a side walk that is paved on the beach if you wanted to take a stroll, ride your bike, or skate board while enjoying the scenery.

One of the neat things about this place is that the beach is full of life and Im not talking about people. There are a variety of crabs, such as hermit crabs that you can nd playing in the sand, along with star sh sun bathing or getting cozy next to the rocks. I have never seen so many star sh and crabs in one day and they are everywhere. So if you or your kids love to explore and nd small critters, this is a great spot to come to.

However, if you are looking for something to do that is more active and out on the water, Daecheon provides many activities. Some of the activities they provide is sailing, zip lining, banana boat rides, parasailing and much more. Some of these activities require a little bit more traveling than others but there is an information booth towards the center of the beach that you can get more information about what is all offered and the prices. There is also a camping site located right next the beach that is on a rst come, rst serve basis for a very low price. I will advise you that there are no showers provided so you have to pay at a hotel to use their showers. However, if you are only going to be there one night, it is worth staying there and experiencing the beach outdoors.

Want to expand your taste pallet? This is a great place to try new things at the local seafood restaurants that offer a large variety of sh and clams. Bring your kids because each seafood restaurant has water tanks in the front

However, for those who are not a fan of seafood, there are other alternative restaurants that offer dishes such as hamburgers and pizza that you can try out. And if you have been walking all day and need a boost of energy, there is always a coffee shop or convenient store nearby.
