of games played since mid February. The rst team have lost both of their

games, going down narrowly to Sutton Way Villa ( 3-1) and to championship

contenders Railway Athletic ( 2-1 ).

Availability of rst team players continues to create problems in all positions, but

particularly in defence, where we have had a different back fur in every game played

since Nvember. We hpe that tw mre wins frm ur remaining seven games

will ensure we remain in the Premier league next year, and we are condent this is

achievable

On a brighter note, Hoole Rangers reserves have won their rst game this season,

beating Ldge Bar by 3-1. If we can vercme bttm club Newtn Bears twice befre

the end f the seasn, we have a realistic chance f aviding the drp int Divisin 3.

I love the shrub Amelanchier lamarkii withwhite starry owers in April that contrast wellwith the new bronze coloured leaves that turngreen and then red in autumn. For shrubswith scent, consider Viburnum burkwoodii orViburnum carlesii varieties and plant whereyou pass by on a regular basis, to appreciate thewonderful scent. Magnolias are in ower too

and for smaller gardens try Magnolia stellatavarieties or Magnolia Susan which has deeppink owers.

If you have moisture retentive yet free drainingsoil in light shade then you could try growingErythroniums better known as Dogs ToothViolets. They are about 30 cm tall and havedelicate lily shaped owers in pale yellow, pinkor white and can be grown under deciduoustrees.

Ground cover can be provided by Lamium alsoknow as Dead Nettle which has hooded pinkor white owers and variegated foliage. It willspread under and around shrubs coping withfull sun or shade and heavier soils. You may wellknow the Dicentra spectablis or Bleeding Heartwith its arching stems of owers but the leaves

soon die down and the owers, whilst beautiful,do not last long. Try Dicentra Formosa orDicentra eximia varieties which have similarowers on shorter stems, will spread and likelight shade. The foliage is a delightful silvercolour and the owers will last for a couple ofmonths. For full sun and well drained soil try

Pulsatilla or Pasque Flower. This low growingperennial has pink or purple anemone owersand greyish silver soft leaves and looks dramaticin a gravel bed.

Dont forget to prune back your forsythia onceit has nished owering and spray roses witha fungicide against blackspot. You can alsogive your lawn a combined liquid feed andweedkiller.

Plant seeds of lettuces, radishes, carrots,French beans, peas and runner beans outsidebut protect from frost if it is forecast. Planttomatoes grown under glass outdoors towardsthe end of the month in a sunny and shelteredposition. Earth up your emerging new potatoshoots and plant maincrop potatoes. Courgette,pumpkin and squash seeds can be plantedindoors to germinate before planting out inMay.

perfect tan is to visit a professional for either a spray
