Carpt ClaningHaving established themselves as a local carpet cleaning business inthe early 1990s, the management team at Falcon made the decision

to purchase several ChemDry franchise areas throughout the NorthWest and North Wales. Having purchased the franchises, the teamat Falcon took maximum advantage of the training packages that

were offered to them, ensuring that all the Falcon staff were trainedto an extremely high standard in all aspects of carpet cleaning andassociated services.

Falcon maintained this relationship withChemDry for over a decade, continuouslystriving to improve the service theycould offer. As circumstances changed, and the franchise model evolved, the

Falcon management team decided thatthe ChemDry franchise practises weretoo restrictive and they took the decisionto move away from this arrangementand seek to establish themselves as anindependent company that was able to make the most of the businesspractises developed in conjunction with a multi-national company, whilst concentrating on a more customer-focused approach to doingbusiness. We value the condence weve gained through the manyyears of our blue-chip relationships, this means we are used to gettingit right rst time, every time.

This decision has been rewarded with an increase in business securedthrough a combination of a local advertising campaign and personalrecommendations from satised clients, both existing and new. Ourdomestic coverage extends throughout the North West and beyond, from Carlisle in the North to Stoke-on-Trent in the South and fromAnglesey in the West to Hull in the East.

Clearly, we have a bias towards cleaning carpets, upholstery, ceramictiles and other hard oor surfaces but we are also in a position toprovide additional products and services which include all manner ofproperty cleaning requirements.

From the point of your initial contact with Falcon, we hope that you

will be impressed with our business methods and we trust that you willbe suitably satised with the results that our technicians will achievewith your carpets. We endeavour to provide a comprehensive servicewhich meets the needs and expectations of our valued existing andpotential new clients.

    CHESHIRE West and Chester Councillors

    have unanimousl refused planning

permission for a 60ft telephone mast in

    Hoole.

    Planning committee members were told

that the mast could be built on land owned

b Chester Traincare Centre near Waverle

    Terrace and Brookside Terrace.

There had been 200 objections, a signed

petition and the mast would have beensited near the junction with Brook Lane and

Dicksons Drive where a similar, smaller

    proposal was rejected in March.

    Local Hoole

    Councillor Bob

    Thompson (pictured)

    said: Chester needs

    a moratorium on

    Telecom masts.

Alread there are 32across the cit with

    operators planning

    more.

    Doesnt the cit

need a strateg where the authorit, the

    operators, customers and businesses

can consult and better understand the

need, the opportunities and the impact

    on communities? Perhaps the Planning

Committee might recommend that bseparate process.

The report suggests these steel lattice

masts are reall not too different to eisting

street structures such as telegraph poles

and street lights I know of no such

poles or lights that reach 60ft into the sk

anwhere in the cit nor indeed an building

in the near vicinit of this proposal.

Councillor Tom Parr, whose Newton ward

is adjacent to the Hoole ward, said: I wouldlike to object to this planning application

on the grounds that to grant permission

would be to the signicant detriment to local

residents b virtue of the impact of the mast

on visual amenit. At 60ft total height the lattice tower and

aerials will dominate the local skline

    towering above residential properties in

    Waverle Terrace and Brookside Terrace,

Brook Lane shops and the Millennium

    Greenwa.

Such a structure is quite out of character

with the local area and will have a signicant

    negative visual impact.

    Greenwa

Councillor Adrian Walmsle, a member of

the Planning Committee, told members that

he had been trying to nd an alternative site

    for the mast.

He said: The height of the mast is going to

be 60ft three times higher than an house

in the immediate area which will affect the

skline or the horizon this will dominate

the local area. This site is right net door to the

    Millennium Greenwa. The residents

of Chester fought for ears to get that

Greenwa and it is in operation for

    recreational use dog walking, ccling,

    hiking and rambling.

It is used b hundreds of residents

particularl on weekends and this mast is

going to be sited right net to the Greenwa

    totall unacceptable.

    Totally unacceptable plans

    for 60ft mast knocked back

    This will affect the skline

    r the hrizn this will

    minate the lcal area.

    HOOLE RANGERS FC

HooLE Rangrs 1st ta ar njoying a rlativly good spll at th ont, winning

thee ut f ve league games in the last tw mnths.

The rst defeat was very disappointing as we outplayed the opposition, Levers, for 75 minutes,

but having squandered man chances to put the game to bed, we lost concentration at the

back and gave awa goals that cost us the points. Following that poor result, we had three

straight league wins against Groves awa 6-2, Levers awa 2-1, and Crosswas at home 3-0,

pushing us at that point, into 4th position in the league. This good run ended with a defeat

against league leaders Kelsall, where the 0-4 result in no way reects the close nature of the

game, as we conceded two late goals while pushing hard to get back into the match. However,

despite this disappointment, Hoole are mid table in the league, and, with two games in hand

over our rivals, we can go into 3rd place, just behind the leaders if we win them.

Our other two cup games were in the Tom Gerraght Memorial Troph, where we plaed

Peacock09, the onl team in the league with a 100% record, and in a

ver competitive game, Hoole Rangers were narrowl defeated b 2

-0. We then gave possibl our worst displa of the season, losing 6-2

against BYC Higheld in the Chester and District League cup.

    Reserves

The reserves are still continuing to nd life a little tough in the rst

division, having lost all league and cup games in the last two months.

This is mainl a consequence of us bringing in some ver oung

plaers, who have real potential for the future, but are still developing

their skills and are struggling a little with the phsical side of what

is a ver strong league. It is our intention to continue to develop the

ounger plaers as appropriate, giving them eperience and allowing

them to learn to compete at this level. Unfortunatel, due to our poor

results, a couple of senior plaers have decided to leave the club,

which is a real disappointment, but on a more positive note, we have

recently signed 4 new players that we believe will signicantly improvecompetition for places in both teams. It is also ver encouraging that despite the poor run of

results and plaer changes, the attitude of the reserve team remains ver positive, the team

spirit and determination to improve is exceptional and we are still condent we can turn things

around in the second half of the season.

    Training

We continue to train during the week. At the moment it is 8.30 to 9.30pm at Blacon High

School on the all-weather pitches, while we wait for the lights to be put up at New Scene. An

new plaers who want to come down to training, please contact us and we will advise when

and where the training will be held.

SIx-yEAR-OLD Hoole Church of EnglandPrimar School pupil Jordan Comer recentl

had the night of his life thanks to the links

between his schools PTA and local traders.

    Jordan, accompanied b mum Michelle

Gre and sister Bethan Comer, won a

competition to help Father Christmas turn on

the Hoole Christmas lights. He was entered

after completing Hooles Hippo Trail, which

saw dozens of dazzling hippo pictures

placed in businesses in and around Hoole. The schools award-winning PTA devised

the trail to thank local businesses which

have been hugel supportive of school

    fundraising events, including summer and

Christmas fairs, and an Elvis night.

The trail was designed especiall to attract

children and their families into Hoole shops,

and, as with last ears Hoolephant Trail,

the event was hugel successful. Traders

reported increased interest and trade.Rob Amans, Mr Fruit, said: An initiative

that involves the whole communit is

good. We appreciate the continuing efforts

Hoole School makes in supporting local

businesses and the Hoole lights switch on.

Linda Alderson, LA Beaut, said, It was

wonderful to be involved in this ears trail.

We thoroughl enjoed seeing families visit

Hoole and having fun nding the hippos.

And Keith Postle, Clancs Qualit Butcherand Deli, said: The trail was a lot of fun and

at least 30% of families bought something

from the shop so it is smiles all round!

PTA chair Paula Norris said: Our objective

of getting children, parents and carers

supporting our brilliant local businesses was

well and trul achieved. We cant thank our

local traders enough for what the do for us

so we hope that the Hippo Trail goes some

This mont ill be recommendng tree wne tat are excellent value for money, epecally wen on offer and terefore perfect for January wen money

tgt after te overndulgence of Crtma & New Year.

The Ogio Primitivo from Tesco (usually 8.99 but often to be found on offer at

4.99) is from a region called Puglia in the south of Italy. A hot Mediterranean

climate produces this soft easy, drinking red with hints of spice, coconut and

forest fruits on the nose which is followed through on the palate with well

balanced tannins and some mysterious dried fruit character. A soothing red

wine that is perfect with a selection of Italian cold meats, cheese &

olives, just to remind us of those warmer months to come.

Another of my favourite grapes is the Albarino grape from

the cooler parts of north western Spain and northern Portugal.

Sainsburys Taste The Difference Albarino is a gem at 7.99 (often found

on offer for 6.99) if youre looking for something a bit different to try.

This is an aromatic, peachy perfumy white that has avours of fresh

    fruits, especially pineapple

and citrus on the palate. A

lovely fresh style of white that

    is traditionally paired with

seafood, so why not try it with a chilli

prawn linguine or a simple pasta salad with

    pesto and prawns.

Finally Id like to recommend something

that people are always a bit nervous to try

and that is a dessert wine. The half bottle

of Conch Y Toro late harvest Sauvignon

Blanc is less than a ver if you buy morethan two Chilean still wines from Majestic

together. Golden yellow in colour with a

luscious, syrupy texture, this wine has

aromas reminiscent of ripe tropical fruits and

a honeyed, yet fresh palate. An excellent

introduction to dessert wine and well worth

the risk! I love this with caramelised fruits

    and ice cream pancakes!

GardeninG by Janet HeatHJanuary is of hogh of s hcololss moh of h b hare some plants that ower and othersthat provide colour, shape andfom.

Hellebore orientalis willoften ower in milderweather in January

and their pink, whiteand deep velvetyplum owers lift thespirit in these shortdays. Cut off mostof their large leavesand the owers willbe visible. Structuralseed heads such asSedums look beautiful

when frosted so dontcut them down. Winterjasmine (Jasminumnudiorum) andwinter oweringheathers (Erica)will also ower inJanuary.

Evergreen plantscome into their own in

winter and you may wantto consider a large structuralshrub for year round foliageand form. Try Fatsia japonica if youhave a sheltered space which does not getthe early morning frost. This plant has largeglossy light green leaves that will give a dullcorner continuous leaf colour. With groupsof different coloured hellebores plantedaround the base it would look wonderful

throughout the dark months. Garrya elliptica

is a shrub with evergreen leaves and silverygreen catkins that look as though Christmasdecorations have been hung on the branches.

There are some tasks thatcan be done in January in

preparation for spring.Dig over and level any

    ground you want to

have ready for springplanting such as newborders or vegetablebeds. Dont do thisif the soil is very

wet as it will causecompaction of the soil.

    Prune back overgrownClematis montana,

wisteria and ornamentalvines whilst the leaves

are off the plants. Thiswill enable you tosee the structure ofthe plants. Continueto prune otherovergrown shrubs.

Make sure thatany dahlia tubers or

gladioli corms lifted foroverwintering, are kept dryand frost free. Cover more

delicate plants with horticulturaleece in freezing weather to prevent

    losing them over winter.

Weed the garden making sure that you getthe roots out especially of plants such asdandelion and bittercress. The latter sets seedso fast that you need to get rid of it before it

    owers.

tHe start of a New Year is traditionally a time where manyof us to make a New Year resolution. For me it will be a new

determination and resolve to get back into the gym and tolose those few extra pounds gained over the festive period. The gym is always that little busier in the rst few week ofJanuary, full of people with good intentions, usually byFeb it is back to those who have carried through theseintentions, I hope I will be one of these!! So, for those of

you who might not have made any New Years changesyet, here are a few ideas to get you started:

    De-clutter your house!

Clean out your closets and donate old clothes and unusedpossessions to charity.

    Quit something!

The less youve got going on, the easier youll be able to deal withwhat you do have going on

    Plan well. Plan early!

Create a plan, set some attainable goals and do it as soon as you can.

Spend more time with family and friends.

Appreciate loved ones and make plans to spend more time with family and friends.

Get Out of DebtWas money a big source of stress in your life last year? Get your nances under control this year.

Have you ever thought about the concept of a new beginning, is it possible to start again or tobegin to follow new course or direction in your life. Christianity has at its heart the concept of newbeginnings, a second chance, and the opportunity to change. The 4 churches here in Hoole allplay an important part in the life of our community and we are here to serve you, we all run manyactivities and we would love to see you over the coming few months.

So as we start 2012 may this be the time for you to experience a new beginning, to experience thechange you desire to see in your life. I hope that this New Year will be a year of new opportunities

and relationships. To explore the new beginning and the chance to change that Christianityoffers then why dont you consider attending thealph Cos. Our next course startson Thursday 19th January at All Saints Church Centre at 7.15pm. This evening is anintroduction evening and we call it A Taste of Alpha it includes a meal with a short talk afterwardscalled Is There More to Life than This? The whole course lasts for 7 weeks, with a Saturday awayin the middle. We are also offering another course this is called the CAP Money Course. This is aMoney Management Course and teaches basic budgeting skills with a simple, cash-based moneymanagement system that really works over 3 sessions. It is designed to help people gain a betterknowledge of what they earn and spend, devise a manageable budget, get their accounts in order, stop over using credit cards and learn to save. Our course starts on Monday 16th January at 8pm inHoole Lighthouse Centre. For more information on both courses please ring the church ofce andask for Hazel 312037.

May I wish you a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year!
