finest garden in the land.Looking around at the desolate landscape of damp and decay it hard to imagine that I can ever get it back to

its former glory. The moss growing between the lagstones injected the only colour and it struck me as odd that

I was so overpowered by it. Compared with the gardens in which I grew up, a postage stamp-sized backyard

should be so much more manageable. The lack of lawn to mow, beds to turn over and boarders to attend to

limits my challenge to an ivy clad trellis separating my space from my neighbours and a number of terracotta

pots in which I struggle to keep heathers, ferns and succulents.

I want to prove the apple doesnt fall too far from the tree. Its the age old notion of wanting to impress

your parents. But here begins the trail to the epicentre of my problem. What impresses me appears not to

impress others. For example, tonight, I come home from work and I try to accomplish epic missions before the

microwave hits zero. I congratulate myself with a cuppa and settle down to watch the Chase.

When I came back from the garden centre with a boot full of multipurpose compost, I willed my Mum to

phone. I wanted her to interrupt. I wanted my other half to say hold on, he is just in the yard, Ill go get him foryou. But no. She knows when Im sat in my pants eating a bowl of Coco Pops. Its like a sixth sense - or a well-

hidden webcam that I am yet to discover.

I planned what needed digging up, what needed re-potting and what part of the yard we could actually enjoy

without having to straddle the ever increasing number of recycling containers. I dragged stu around, plucked

snails from the larger pots, scrubbed a lot of the green from the lagstones and gave everywhere a general tidy.

I was quite proud of the results and found myself taking my phone from my pocket and photographing the

yard. I played around with the image on instagram, iltering it and adjusting the hues and tones until I got

an impressive looking inal image. I then posted it on facebook and waited for some recognition. I labelled

it before wanting to give the impression that it was a starting point and that another would follow labelled

after. What I didnt convey was that I had spent the best part of the day out there.

I needed to ine tune and control the snapshot and in doing so, I realised that what it is all about. Snapshots. We live in awe of other people and their successes because that is what we see. The social networking

of updates, allowing us to take control over what others know about us. What others see. Our conversations

in the pub steer away from the topics we want to avoid and we encourage those for which we want to

claim bragging rights for. The pictures we frame in our houses are rarely of ourselves and thanks to digital

photography, we can delete the unlattering images before anybody else sees them.

When mum comes to visit, there will be no talk about missions to Mars, DIY or surgical procedures. Instead,

she will run her ingers through the heathers; enjoy the smells from the lavenders and sit on a bench in my

backyard enjoying the late spring sunshine. Ill want her to think that the garden is always this immaculate

and the sun always shines in Hoole. Well talk about the positive things we have both been up to and leave the

negative stu for a rainy day. Ill avoid Coco Pops and will most certainly not be sitting out there in my pants.

And when she smiles and says how perfect it all is, some of that smile will be a subtle nod to her own relief

that she found it this way again. That all those time she called and didnt interrupt me was just bad timing. I

had been working my ingers to bone to get it just so. Just as she did for all those years that I was growing up.

Just like she continues to do now.

THE weather has decimated the xtures for both

Hoole Ragers teas sice noveber, so this

report will cover all xtures since that date

Hoole Ragers FC 1st tea have played six

xtures since the last report in November. During

Deceber, we had a tough Seior cup tie versus

Chester noads 1st tea, curretly doig well

i West Cheshire Divisio 1. After a really hard

fought gae, with both sides havig chaces

to wi it, Hoole lost out by a sigle goal, 4-3 i

probably our best perforace of the seaso.This gave us a real boost ad we had hoped

to cotiue this good for i our league gaes.

However, i our ext gae away to 2d placed

Kela, we had seve players issig ad were

soudly beate 4-0.

Due to weather, we played o ore gaes util

February, whe we had 2 really good results i the

league, beatig Ellesere Port by 2-1, followed by

a great 4-0 victory over newto Athletic. However,

i early march, we played 2 cup gaes, ad lost

out in both. The rst loss was to Division 1 side

FCVillage, where we probably played the worst

gae this seaso, ad fully deserved to lose by

3-1.

We followed this with aother cup gae agaist

a strog Shaftsbury side, where despite beig 2-0

up just before half tie, lost our way badly i the

2d half, goig dow 4-2. This was a real blow

as we were very capable of wiig both of these

cups.

Second TeamThe 2d tea, i Divisio 1 oly played 4 gaes

durig the last four oths. I our oly gae

i Deceber, we had a great 5-3 victory over

Ashto. I Jauary, we played 2d fro botto

tea, Chester noads III, who put out a really

strog side ad we lost 4-0. I February we lost

2 further gaes, agaist Chester Celtic by 3-1 i

a gae where we trialled playig o Astro-turf at

Chester College. Followig that defeat we were

pitched agaist league leaders, Lache, ad were

soudly beate by 8-0.

roo extesio project, we had a very positive

eetig with LIVE! Trustees ( new Scee based

charity ad buildig lease holders) to discuss the

required 25 year lease, ad we are ow waitig

for a eetig with Cheshire West ad Chester

coucil, after which we should be i a positio to

nalise 25 year lease arrangements for the pitch

ad chagig roos, ad the start the Plaig

Perissio process.
