Driving past the St. Lawrence Cemetery these days you may notice something different . . . a new flagpole (topped by a cross) that is now standing at the center of

the cemetery, visible from quite a distance. It’s a fine tribute to recently deceased WWII veteran Robert Tyo (and all deceased veterans), made by Mr. Tyo’s family. We’re most grateful for this gift and tribute for deceased veterans who are laid to rest at St. Lawrence cemetery! Which also reminds me . . . As Catholics do every November, we join together in remember-ing and praying for our beloved dead. It ties in perfectly well with this Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy which draws near to its end: praying for the faithful departed with Masses and votives and prayers is a Spiritual Work of Mercy (“pray for the living and the dead”). By ensuring that the mortal remains of the dead are respectfully laid to rest, and by keeping our cemeteries in a dignified and respectful state of upkeep and adornment, we observe a traditional Corporal Work of Mercy (“bury the dead”). Thanks again to the Tyo’s for this touching, simple, and digni-fied addition to St. Lawrence cemetery. May our deceased vet-erans - and all the faithful departed - through the mercy of God rest in peace. Next Saturday is a very big day at St. Mary’s Social Hall - the annual St. Mary’s & St. Joseph’s bazaar is a great day, offering lots of fun for adults and children alike. I hope to see many there throughout the day! If you haven’t yet been able to pick up a Mason Jar to help out with the Country Store, you still can this weekend. You can also still get your big money raffle ticket - either on your own or perhaps by going in together with friends/family/co-workers. Good luck and I’ll see you at the bazaar!

THANK YOU FROM FR. DON MANFRED FOR DONATIONS TO THE WORKING BOYS CENTER IN

QUITO EQUADOR I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the many people who donated to this project at the time of my leaving Sacred Heart/St. Lawrence parish this past June. Donations totaled $20,300. To quote the fellow advertising cars on TV-That was ‘HUGE...‘and I am most grateful for the generosity of so many who donated. Sr. Cindy was also most grateful and with addition-al contributions form other sources, almost $40,000 was raised to purchase a bus for the Center. I miss Sacred Heart/St. Lawrence parish, Trinity Catholic and many friends in Massena/Louisville, but I am adjusting ot my new assignment. I am happy to continue ministry as a priest and this “type” of retirement is easy to take!!! God bless all...thank you for 18 wonderful years of priestly ministry...you are in my thoughts and prayers often. Gratefully, Fr. Don Manfred
