God is showing off in our church! We had an amazing service Sunday morning with the deacon ordination of Jeff Johnson (Katie), the introduction to the Creation Study (Genesis 1 - 2), and the Lord’s Supper. We are also praising God for His faithfulness in honor of our obedience. In May of this year the church followed the Lord’s lead in agreeing to sell the Ridgecrest House. After many years of wonderful ministry through this property, God said it was time to move forward. Well, we have just closed on the sale of the house. The income from the sale went entirely to the principle of our loan. As a result, I’m excited to report to you that our church debt is now only $35,000! I hope you will prayerfully consider a gift, above and beyond your Biblical tithe, specifically designated to the retirement of our remaining debt. A special envelope is in the pew for such an offering. Our debt payment is $4,000/month. Imagine the ministry awaiting a debt-free church! Finally, I want to say a special thanks to Brian McMakin and Harold Mullinax for their faithful service as a part of the deacon ministry the past three years. Also, a very special word of appreciation goes to Larry Owens who has just completed his term of service and filled the role of Chairman of Deacons this past year. What an incredible day of worship we had this past week! We experienced the presence of God through praise, deacon ordination, the preaching of the Word, and the celebration of the Lord's Supper. We all left this place overflowing with the presence and spirit of the Lord. Praise God for what He is doing in His church! Believe it or not, the choir has begun working on music for Christmas! I want to encourage you to come join us Wednesday night at 7:10 and see what we're all about. There's never been a better or more exciting time to join choir than now! If you have any questions or concerns at all, I would love an opportunity to speak with you. Give me a call in the church office anytime! I have had the privilege of visiting with several of our senior adult homebound members over the past few weeks. This past week, I spoke with two 94-year-old ladies in nursing homes. I went to try to be an encouragement to them, but I left feeling so blessed to have had a few minutes with them. I want to challenge you with this: Have you spent a few moments with one of our seniors lately? I have been so blessed in speaking with them to learn about our church, our community, and to hear them give a personal testimony of what God has done in their lives. Take a few moments and just sit and listen- it's time well spent! I can't wait to see you Sunday as we worship together, looking forward to what God is going to do!

Brian

We will be collecting the state missions offering during the month of September. All this money stays in our state to meet

missions needs. Please give generously,

and put a notation on your offering envelope, “State Missions Offering.”

Covenant Groups are in full swing, and we are

having a blast. Let me encourage you if you are not

already a part of a Covenant Group on Wednesday

nights to come and try it out this week. Talk to anyone who is a

part of one, and you'll see what you're missing out on. Deeper

relationships are already forming, and some cool fellowship plans

have been made by each of the groups. One group came up to me

after meeting the other week and was so excited about the

service project they had come up with. And on top of all this,

we've been able to dig deeper into each Sunday's word. God is

doing some amazing things already in our groups, and it is not

too late to be a part of one! We've got a spot just for you, and

a group that's ready to make you part of its family. And don't

forget: YOU decide what questions to discuss each week. Log

onto firstlyman.org and click on Covenant Groups to submit a

question. Don't miss out on what God is doing. We'll see you

Wednesday!

We will meet in the Fellowship Building. Some First Lyman ladies have graciously offered to share their gift of cooking

and provide us with wonderful “comfort breakfast food.” We will hear some sweet testimonies of how God has used ladies in our church as they ministered to another member through a card, call, or visit. Then we will learn simple ways that we can communicate our love and concern for others. We will

have a time to discuss and practice intentional communication that is encouraging and effective. There will be “take-aways” and door prizes - be sure to sign up soon!

Sign-up sheets will be in the SS departments, the vestibule,

or call the church office (439-8721). Register by Sunday, October 4. Sunday, October 4. Sunday, October 4. Sunday, October 4.

We will be looking forward to seeing you there! Dear Church Family- I would like to express my deepest gratitude

for all your phone calls, cards, visits, and especially prayers during my recent heart

surgery. It is comforting to know that we have a caring church full of love and compassion.

Love, Bruce Petty
