Holy Monkey Forest, Sangeh, and a 14 hectares homogeneous Pala (nutmeg) forest, in habited by hundreds of tame monkeys. The trees cannot be found on any other part of Bali and their existence in this village remains a mystery. This is the biggest and the first monkey forest introduced as a tour ism resort in Bali. The high Pala trees shade a mossy temple of Bukit Sari

amidst the forest. It is a Hindu temple heri-tage by Mengwi King-dom, which was build, in the 17th century.

Bukit Sari Temple. In the Sangeh Monkey Forest, a protected grove of nutmeg trees where tribes of mon-keys dwell as honored guests can be found a

spacious temple known as Pura Bukit Sari Sangeh. This temple originally built by the royal family

of Mengwi, and is now taken care of by the people from the village of Sangeh. According to history, Anak Agung Anglurah Made Karangasem Sak , the adopted son of Raja Mengwi, Cokorda Sak Blambangan, built Bukit Sari. Mengwi was once one of Bali’s major Kingdoms, nearby to Sangeh, only 18 km from Denpasar. At the beginning of the 17th century the royal family of Mengwi ruled over the area Blambangan to East Java Anak Agung Anglurah Made Karangasem Sak had from his childhood prac ced “tapa rare” a kind of medita on wherein on the state of childhood. Thus he obtained the inspira on to build a temple in the nutmeg forest at Sangeh. To this day, the Bukit Sari temple remains as a testament to the duty and respect that the Royal Family of Mengwi pays to the Gods of Mount Agung.

AS a par ng statement to end the year we are here to say thank you, the ride has been a universal blessing to say the least. Yes we have been giving away gi s during the holiday season, however our biggest present we can give (besides the absolute happi-ness and thrills from the park to the people), is the gi of giving back to the planet. Our biggest accomplishment in 2014, alongside installing 4 brand new slides, is our environ-mental progression, sustainability and tech-nological innova on. These strides are taking us to where we want to be and the culture we want to ins ll. Yes we are a business, but harmony moves in a circular mo on of giving and taking and that for us is the principle key to success.

Here are our main highlights:PLATINUM AWARD FOR TRI HITA

KARANA: This pres gious award has been receiving global recogni on as framework for sustainable economic development. It highlights the harmony among people, god and nature. A er receiving 3 consecu ve years of gold followed by emerald. We have finally entered the des na on of Pla num. Humbling to say the least.

SILVER CERTIFICATION FOR EARTH-CHECK: Represents the next genera on in global benchmarking, cer fica on and improvement systems; assis ng the sustain-ability of the interna onal travel and tourism industry. One more year un l we can move into the gold category.. Excited MUCH

PAPERLESS OFFICE: We are taking ad-vantage of technology and in the process of

elimina ng paper use within the office. Our first ini a ve was using the Drop Box feature, instead of prin ng within the office we share our informa on digitally. We are now in the process of crea ng digital name cards as our second step.

PAPERLESS PAYMENT SYSTEM: We no longer print receipts in the park, which saves a huge amount of paper. All payment details can be seen on a monitor.

ORGANIC WATER BOTTLES: We provide all of our staff with ‘re-fill’ water bo les, in-stead of plas c bo les that get thrown away and re-purchased.

WATER SAVING METHOD AT WATER-BOM: Hi-Tech water system that re-uses and re-filters the h20. For more details watch the youtube TEDX video for Waterbom Bali :). ALL of our taps are now push bo om’s taps. Push Bo om taps release water for 4 seconds, this reduces un-nessesary wastes of water.

WASTE IS SPLIT INTO TWO SECTORS: NON ORGANIC and ORGANIC. The non organic waste is handled by a company that recycles the trash. The Organic waste becomes compost.

BROWN PAPER BAGS: All of our bags are 100% recyclable, we are elimina ng the use of plas c as much as we can.

SUPPORTING LOCAL ‘CONSCIOUS’ PRO DUCTS: We now work with ‘Indosole’, amongst others who find goods, recycle them, produce product and sell them with

style.

Lastly, thank you for nomina ng us to be the best park in ASIA and number 5 in the WORLD! This is fuel to our fire, a mo va on to become be er.

Our new years resolu on; stay grounded because there is s ll a lot for us to improve on, as long as our targets sit on the horizon.

Happy New Years, Enjoy Life more, mind over ma er. The Management. BTNews-paper/*

ART Pa o in Lovina, North Bali presents a solo exhibi on by the Dutch ar st Theo Zantman through February 1, 2015.

This exhibi on en tled “Plein Air” means “The Open Air” - an expression that describes the process of pain ng in the great outdoors.

The prac ce of pain ng in “Plein Air” or open spaces was much in favor among Im-pressionist and post-impressionist painters. This, in turn, created a different perspec ve on the rela onship between reality and its pictorial representa on.

Pain ng in “Plein Air” is a method of ar s c portrayal imbued with immediacy and movement. As a “Plein Air” prac o-ner, Dutch ar st Theo Zantman is dedicated to pain ng the landscape on loca on. His pain ngs are devoted to capturing the play

of natural light and shadow expressed via a bright and varied use of color. Theo Zant-man’s work is notable for its emo onal honesty and its fresh and original vision.

In the words of the dean of Bali’s art community, Arie Smit: “ Theo Zantman is a highly original ar st and one of the very few painters alive who have the ability to feel and to paint the atmosphere of Bali with talent and authen city. . .I have seen him several

mes pain ng on loca on and can say that using incredible concentra on, his pain ng reveal to me both integrity and honesty.”
