For a short week, our students took every moment to fully engage in learning! We hosted our last four sessions of science lab for the fall semester. Our kindergarten scholars learned about motion and forces as they used their creativity and a variety of materials to build different chain reactions, while our rst graders investigated similarities between light and sound. Our second graders studied factors that effect force and motion as they built and tested LEGO® power cars under different racing conditions. Our fth graders studied cells and microorganisms through observations, followed by creating biological drawings of their cells and microorganisms. It was a wonderful week for hands on learning! Of course, I could not recap our awesome week without sharing about our fantastic International Night! Last Thursday we had an awesome time at our annual event! This fun-lled family event was hosted by several parents and staff members and provides our community the opportunity to learn about various cultures, taste delicious food, admire and learn about beautiful attire, and watch wonderful musical performances from their native cultures! This event is truly a beautiful representation of all the students and families that make our school so wonderful. Thank you so much to our parents, students, and staff for collaborating and coming together to make this event an absolute success! Next week, our students in 3rd and 5th grade will participate in the IOWA Assessments! Each morning students will begin testing around 8:00 a.m. During the testing window, you can help your child by ensuring that he/she is here on time, has a good breakfast, a good night's rest, and a good snack for after testing. It is important to share that, as a school we, will do everything to assure that our students understand that this is a tool which teachers can use to provide accurate instruction. Each morning our testing team stands in the hallway and reminds all students that they may not know all the answers, but all they need to do is try their

best. This message will help our students recognize that assessments are a means to provideinstruction and hopefully alleviate some worry our students may have around testing. In addition, during the testing window, October 21st through the 31st, we will not be having anyvolunteers in the school building or visitors for lunch. Thank you for your understanding. Then coming up the following week, our school will celebrate Red Ribbon Week! Although thenational dates are October 21st through the 31st, due to testing, our school will participatefrom October 28th through November 1st. During that week, we will recognize the importanceof choosing a healthy lifestyle by choosing to be drug free and making responsible choices tostay safe. We will have daily themes which we hope all students and staff will participate in.Please see the daily themes below. As always, thank you for your continued support for our school and students! SCIENCE LABThanks to your generousdonations and support, ourstudents have all engaged in ahands on learning experiencealigned to their sciencestandards. Each grade levelfocused on a different topicand engaged in learning aboutthe concept then applying theirunderstanding. It was truly ablast for all students!

SENSORYPATHLast week, our students cameback to school from their longweekend to nd our newsensory path! We chose toinstall this path because whena child starts losing cognitivefunctioning during the learningprocess, it helps to give somesensory input. The pathengages children in a series ofmovements which offer thenecessary proprioceptive andvestibular input, allowing forrefocusing of attention whichultimately increases cognitionand retention of newinformation. We are so happy tohave this for our students!

Elementary attendance messages begin going out around 10:45 a.m. on the day of theabsence. If your student is not present by 10:30 a.m., they will be marked with an "A" (for absent) inour attendance system and you will receive an automated phone call and email messageto the designated contact info you provided in Innite Campus. This includes excusedabsences that are approved in advance. If your student was tardy that day, it is possible they are marked absent that morning priorto the out-going call but then changed in the system to "present" later in the day. Errorscan occur and if you feel you received a phone call by mistake, contact your school frontoce to verify that your student’s attendance record is accurate. If your student's absence was unexpected, please remember to send a note when theyreturn to school so the absence can be marked "excused" in the system.
