Canalicular Adenoma

Type of benign salivary gland tumor occurs most often in minor salivary glands.

Grouped in the category of monomorphic adenoma.

Canalicular Adenoma

Composed of columnar epithelial cells arranged in single or double layer forming branching chords.

HISTOPATHOLOGYBilayered strands of basaloids cells that branch and anastomoses within a delicate stroma

Highly vascular

Contains: FEW fibroblasts; LITTLE collagen

HISTOPATHOLOGY

Individual cells= columnar with moderate to abundant amounts of eosinophilic cytoplasm

HISTOPATHOLOGY

May not be totally encapsulated

20% cases= multifocal

TreatmentSurgical excision (inclusion of a cuff of clinically normal tissue)

PrognosisGood. 20% multifocal, recurrence may occur
