• An important resource for people with little access to botanical identification literature• Electronical nature makes it easy to update.

Follows the APG II classification system, with the Monocot families circumscribed to reflect the APG III.

• The Kew Tropical America team finances the project with staff

time for development, coordination, and editing.• More than 100 taxonomists: 45 in Latin America, 30 international,

and 25 from Kew contribute their specialist families.

The future• Lucid keys to genus level and accompanying genus level websites or community built scratchpads and links to existing genus level resources.• Translate into Spanish/Portuguese.• Links to Tropicos, GPI, EOL, INPI, etc.• Connect to checklists of Brazil, ConoSur, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Colombia, Flora Meso, etc.• Develop new systems of access.

• July 2010 - Neotropikey first online: 1st circular to all 100 contributors and other interested communities.

• Neotropikey launched specially Latin American community at Brazilian congress in September 2010 and the Latin American congress in October 2010.

• February 2011 - Latin American Malvoideae-key online: 1st real Neotropikey newsletter.

• CDs to sent to contributors.• Neotropikey hosted on the Kew and recently also on the Lucid website.

• Each burst of publicity >> a surge in visits to the key and in user feedback and bug reports.

• Focal points for users e.g. central Kew portal for e-taxonomic products.
